  • Watch as Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida grants the wish of a little girl with a brain tumor.
Iris is a wonderful little girl. She's always been a typical kid who was healthy, meeting milestones, and loves having fun.
One morning she woke up with an upset stomach. She wasn't feeling well but it went away through the day. Unfortunately, it continued to happen.
The turning point for Iris was when she and her family attended a soccer game. Towards the end of the game, Iris was so dizzy that she couldn't stand properly. Her parents took her for a CT scan and much to their dismay, the doctor said they found something.
Iris was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a type of brain cancer. Of course, after a diagnosis like this, families wonder if their child is terminal, what the future holds, and what treatment plans they will be looking at.
Her #treatment began with the removal of the tumors, full brain and spine radiation, and #chemotherapy. The treatments took place five days a week and were very taxing on Iris' body. For each treatment she had to be put to sleep which required a tube down her throat. This took away her ability to walk, stand, or even eat on her own.
While in the hospital, a social worker approached her family and mentioned that Iris may be eligible for granting a wish from Make-A-Wish.
The family was so excited and Iris determined that her wish was to see snow! Make-A-Wish made it possible for the family to travel to Vermont in the winter. The family got to take ski lessons and had a tremendous time. They made snowballs and snowmen as a family, shared core memories, and laughed harder than they had in a long time.
#Wishes can turn despair into hope and a frown into a smile. That's why donations change lives.
