Massive congratulations on your soon-to-be grandfather-hood! Don't ever feel sorry for taking time to spend with family. In fact, being a grandparent is a great excuse to spend more time with the family! And the best part is when you've had enough, you can always just give the kid back to their parents.
"My life is really ... uh ... complex" My absolute favorite line by Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne.
You are the king of the "Hey man" job!
Cora is in supervisory mode! 🤣🤣
When dad asks…..you just do! Keep on keepin on Steve 🔨 👨🏭
Congratulations on becoming a Grandfather.
Watching you struggle taking off and putting back the big chucks, it looks like a good time to make yourself a mini crane for that lathe and make a small cart to house the Chuck's. It'll make your life a lot easier and those chucks seem to get heavier the older you get.
Exactly !
Some of us out here became grandfathers a little earlier than we might have preferred, but those babies are wonderful and fun to spoil . . . no matter what!
Wonderful hooty owl. Lucky you (to live in the woods)
Hello to the loveable Cora!
My grandfather is the one with the chairs. He has SO MANY CHAIRS. Some overflowed into my house.
I second it on the mini crane for the lathe! Save you back, save your knees. I've used up both knees and need them replaced ... the back is another story. Make the mini crane, really, do it my boy do it!
Congrats grandpa. I thought I was only going to be grampoo of one, but got the news yesterday that my son’s wife is 12 weeks along. Woohoo! I may get that granddaughter yet. I’ll be happy for a boy or girl as long as momma is OK and baby is healthy. I thought I’d have to wait till my grandson had kids.
Steve, if you applied AC via a rheostat to your magnetic chuck and gradually reduced the voltage (you made need to do it more than once), it should remove any residual magnetism.
Nothing gets back to "normal" after your first grandchild! Nor would you want it to. We have a nice, rural place in southern Indiana, but our first grandchild lives in the Chicago suburbs. And he's about to be a big brother! I'm barely gettin' my grass mowed in Indiana; and I'm happier than pig in sh**! Congrats!
Congratulations Paw Paw! Grandchildren are a gift! We have 6 so far. Enjoyed the video!
I always enjoy the selection of music in your videos on top of the inspiration to get out in the shop and get mt own things done.
So the T shirt back says it all.😮
Being grandfather is great! Congratulations! Take time to make special memories with them as they grow. - I love Shapers. - I'm jealous of your shop my man. Since I lost my equipment in the fire, before ever getting to actually use the milling machines, I have a hard time watching others. Stay safe.
Congrats Grandpa. If you apply an AC voltage to your mag chuck, you can remove the residual magnetism.
Man you welded that junk together like new steel
Love the music of nature at your place. Mine is completely different on a bayou here in Florida, but great also. Congratulations on your family addition. God bless you all.
Philip & Dora
Well we have this much in common. I'll be sleeping with a grandmother shortly too....Congratulations.
Santa Cruz! Family first , good dog, then work. Congrats, good luck, thanks for sharing knowledge.
Thank you for taking the time to always make good videos. Family is always first and congrats on the addition to your family. Also the zoomed out view of operating the lathe is always interesting to me. It's cool to see what's going on to make the parts
23:44 good to see you being properly supervised.😊
Grandpa, WOOHOO! ! ! Me thinks you can add one more tiny job to the never ending list and that would be a 5 hundred pound swinging jib crane over the lathe. When I finally put one over mine my back is still thanking me. Fun one doing all kinds of things getting taken off the never ending list. Nice to see the shop has become everything you wanted in a shop come to fruit. Pretty sweet fruit in my eyes bud.
Fixing stuff for Dad is always fun and fulfilling as long as he does not supervise😁. Oh man Grandchildren!...Thats a whole different ball game. Steve I think the best part of your life is now starting. Teach them all the good stuff you can. I have 6 ranging from 2 year old little cutie terrorist. Heh Heh! to 19 a year old kickass ice hockey goalie! You will be able to fix things for them too. My two oldest are girls, guess who gets to fix their cars... Dang Kids! would not trade them for the world. Congratulations to you, Elizabeth and family. Cheers
Love your work. Nice to watch some machining and fettling.
its nice to be able to knock out a load of jobs in a day
From one Grandad to another, you're not getting back to normal, it's just time for a new normal😂 I have been enjoying the fortnightly (2 weekly for those on the other side of the pond) videos, they have been, as always, informative, fun and entertaining. We will all know when you have held your grandchild for the first time by the beaming smile on your face!
Congratulations Grandpa!
What you did with your workpiece in chuck is exactly what I do with collets tool grinding.
It absolutely works.
You don't have to tap on a tool shank as much to get it to run true. I hate indicating.
I made ( 4 ) washers like what you made to tram in my bench mill head . They were .250" thick to start.
On X axis I ground enough off to bring in the X axis.
The Y axis is a little harder . You have to grind the other direction with the washers separately. It worked well but the washers have to go back to their original locations if it is ever taken apart. Some people may have tramed their heads in differently but this worked very well.
... "Complicated..." NUFF SAID!
Comment for the algorithm!
Congratulations ! Your shop Dog is really enjoying her life being part of your life , she is happy sitting on your chair looking for pets! She looks healthy and happy thanks for taking her in and rescuing her!
Keith Rucker often does shop days with his subscribers, maybe you could have one of those and the people that could make the trip can come help you out with some of your more menial tasks that are eating your time. Like help you get firewood cut, split, and covered. Sanding, sweeping, and lifting. They say if you have two competent people doing a task instead of one you get a 250% increase in productivity.
Love the chair story. Also, congrats and blessings on becoming a grandfather. I pray that your grandkid(s) bring you overflowing joy!
What were your opening words Steve, "I hope you enjoy ... " I, for one, always look forward to your content and enjoy it when it arrives.
Thank you ... 🙂
Congratulations grandpa Summers, and thanks for reminding me, as I have my father in laws back up wheelchair to repair. 👋🏻😃
Thank you for sharing. Enjoyed👍
I see the Full Tang sign on the shop door. Delicious hot sauce.
Morning Steve, nice to see the video, it lifts my day
Congratulations Grampa Steve
When you hit number eleven in G-Kids, and one Great Steve, you will become as I,,,,,old as dirt (@@)! Enjoy, life fly's by and enjoy every second! Thx for let us hang out in the shop today, Bear.
Great video Steve. Lathe, saw, surface grinding, shaper, welding. Great way to have coffee on a Saturday morning 😊🙏
WOW- leaning into that chuck and blowing off the chips with that big beard dangling is a scary looking operation. For changing the chuck, just add a board with a hinge and a couple wood v- blocks to support the chuck- it will work for both your chucks.
Hello Steve and family, if you live close to a rolling mill of any kind really, try to get ahold of the roll shop supervisor. Most roll shops will have a hand held industrial deguassing unit that will kill the residual magnetism in your magnetic chuck. I’d get one sent to you but they run $2000.
Hello Steve. Another fun video! I'm a yank retired to Thailand, and I wait every week to see what's happening with your shop and Cora!
Grand paw Steve great work as always
Your buddy Big -Al- Owl sure is a hoot. .🤦♂
Thanks for taking time out of your life to make our lives a little better every Saturday.
I would touch those edges with a file before they are fully parted- saves a lot of hand de-burring.
nice old lathe man nice work as well.
You could try rigging up a digital vernier as a "poor man's" DRO. I do it on my mini lathe.
Congratulations! The gift that keeps on giving! Seriously, a gift from God. God bless.
Love the new Grinder.
As a dedicated Saturday morning viewer, thanks for the update. And congratulations on the new member of the family coming!
Congratulations!
Great news and congrats Steve, to be a Grandfather! It's huge. Shall we call you Grandad Steve now? :D
Congrats!
Congratulations Steve on becoming a grandfather! I too am going to be a grandfather in another month or so for the first time. Should be interesting. Thanks for the video!
Congratulations Steve, You'll be a great grandfather!
Hot tip kids. If you feel compelled to check for heat with your fingers use the back side if your fingers instead of the part of the finger you need to most. It’s hard to pick up boxes while you’re waiting for your finger prints to return.
Wow who thought making washers would be so much fun to watch
That is a Barred Owl you heard
Thanks pawpaw🎉
I really enjoy the puttering/odd jobs episodes. But I'm happy to catch up with what you are doing whenever the videos show up!
A grandchilld to spoil is a blessing. Enjoyed the family chair repair story. Always a nice way to start my Saturday
Hi Steve Congratulations of your up coming grandfather duties, lots of happy times ahead.
Barred owls..."who cooks for you, who cooks for you all.."...their "laugh" is something to hear also..
Thanks for sharing
Harley Quinn said it best. "Normal is a setting on the dryer.". And I see someone else uses Solar Flux.
Great this and that episode Steve. Loved the way those spacers turned out! Can't get better than to 6 decimal places on the nose! My God , your mate must have had a really bad cold when he welded up the end of that drive shaft, coz it's got a hell of a lot of snot on it!
Nice tig weld. Your friend’s welding is …. Interesting
Keep up the good work and take care of your family the best you can. God Bless Steve.
I love your vids Steve - thanks.
Great video
☹🇬🇧
Thanks Steve…. Excellent start to the weekend!
Maybe pickup a cheap degaussing/demagnetizing coil somewhere for that mag chuck? Even an old VHS tape eraser picked up from a yard sale might work OK.
Congrats on becoming a Grandad!
You appear to be a friend in deed.
Awesome as Always great Content..Really love the Artwork on the Doors..
Good stuff
I've got a set of the Mitytoyo Quantumikes - You can reliably measure the thickness of a sharpie mark. Really incredible tool for the price.
Thanks for the video Steve . Well, your projects look great looking well yourself.
Congratulations to you both! Grandkids are great! It's really cool that he or she will have all of these great videos to see grandpa and grandma doing what they love one day! Best wishes to your family!
Steve, your TIG skills do impress me. I have been repairing aircraft parts by TIG welding since 1965. I can’t come close to your smoothness and consistency. Well done, sir!
Hi Steve, Maybe a solution for the mag chuck is to feed it with AC voltage for a short burst. I would this the chuck is feed with DC when operating. Congrats on the new addition to the family.
I was going to comment the same thing. If he pulls the parts off the chuck in AC mode off slowly it'll demagnitize the parts as well.TFS!
Congratulations on becoming a grandfather. It’s the best thing in the word
CONGRATULATIONS on becoming grandparents. You two will be thrilled to the max and mom n dad will be also. Your video had a bit of everything. The shaper, grinder, welding, all kids of fun tools n machines. Take care of mom to be and keep us in the loop. Thanks again for making a Saturday morning great. Till next time TTYL.
Many, many congratulations Steve and family. With love, as always, from Dorset, UK
Dang Steve, you made that drive shaft weld look so easy. Guess 20+ years of daily welding adds up. Cheers.
Morning Steve, to fix your mag chuck issue id recommend a OS walker mag chuck controller. We ran them on all our smaller manual grinders at work and they seem to be very reliable. It demags the chuck and the part when you turn it off plus it gives you the option to very the mag strength or go full stick. There not cheap but a nice small self contained unit
Excellent - automatic de-mag is the way to go.
My rule on the grandfather wording, never call me paw paw just call me POPS. Now when my 2 sweet granddaughters get to the door most times they say bye pops and as they close the door they open the door with a grin and just say pawpaw and 😊 . Now i have 3 great grandson's and am only 72 ❤ you and Elisabeth will enjoy. CONGRATULATIONS ❤❤
Congrats on being a granddad.
Excellent camera work, Steve!!!
Much improved
you should always have a drive shaft loop
Gorgeous spacers. Surface grinders are such cool tools! I also really like TIG welding. It always looks so "scientific." LOL Thanks for another excellent video.
FAMILY FIRST, WE WILL WAIT FOR MORE VIDEOS WHEN YOU GET TIME. THANK YOU
Residual magnetism should be removed if you were to give the chuck some AC current to degauss it. Could probably build a degauss circuit on a double pole switch for convenience.
👍
Hey Steve...congratulations ! We are also 1st time grandparents within the past 2-weeks. I am also getting my pre-winter projects done today (right after watching your video of course). Enjoy that family time, we'll wait !! That time goes much too fast. Take care...East bound and down, loaded up and truckin', we gonna do what they say can't be done...'
