Funk is the DNA of Hip-Hop
Funk is also the DNA of house
Don't forget to sprinkle a little bit Jamaican sound system culture in there.
Genre evolves over time hip hop has come from years of black music
Blues to Rock n Roll to Rock to Funk to Disco and then Hip-Hop.
@@cartergriffiths9327 funk was derived from Jazz...late 60s James Brown and Sly stone were at the forefront and in the 70s Miles Davis started Fusion Jazz incorporating different genres of music into jazz including Rock and Blues but considering the heavy sampling of Jazz and funk they were definitely foundation of hip-hop
i can’t express how much i love this channel
🙏🙏
Ditto. When I just saw he posted a new video I got all excited
@@diggingthegreats play Gimme some more by the JBs
tell me if that doesn't turn heads
AGREED
Rest in Power, Bernard Wright! He passed away shortly after I had the chance to meet him in Dallas while he was performing on Snarky Puppy's new album. I feel very fortunate to have had the chance to talk to him for a little bit between sets.
RIP BERNARD WRIGHT
I always went to play "Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder as my soundcheck line. Just because I love to play this song.
A CZcams CHANNEL THAT DOES COOL MUSIC BREAKDOWNS AND BASS STUFF?? I love this channel so much, man.
3:03 Man that tone is so liquid and beautiful, would fit in great over an acid-jazz/chill fusion, so funky and almost mysterious with those pops, awesome character.
Algorithm suggested the 'Through The Wire' breakdown, then I immediately clicked on this. Damn. Where the hell has this channel been all my life?! Props, Brandon. You're a master of your craft.
Jamiroquai - Manifest Destiny. A whole groove centered in the bass that everything else just complements. Percussion & keys can’t help but to fall in line.
Jamiroquai has countless songs with just the absolute best basslines! My favorite gotta be ‘too young to die’
Also, I frequently play 5/8 of these bass lines, especially “All Night Long”. The groove is undeniable.
It’s so good!
Might I add A Taste Of Honey “Boogie Oogie Oogie” is crucial. One of the first basslines I taught myself and it’s instantly recognizable from every purist and most age demographics.
@@Rahnotrob I remember loving this song because of the bass 🤣
How could you not mention Smooth Operator by Big Daddy Kane 😂
Keep up the good work man. Thanks for including the spotify playlists! something that not everyone does and is much appreciated! Keep it funky!
Absolutely! Gotta share the knowledge as much as possible!
I wholeheartedly agree! I always stop and look up songs on Spotify while watching CZcams, but then I realized he was providing the playlists for me and was blown away. So appreciated!
Yesssss!! Hubby and I are so glad we found you and look forward to your videos 😍
Love that Come Down made it to your list, the track slaps hard!
That bassline you played for Getaway blew me away, just wow. Your videos are worth watching, subbing to this amazing channel.
You dropped another bomb bro, love the research you put behind every video.
You really dig deep, and we dig that.
this is becoming my new favourite channel. i don't even play anything i just love your music knowledge and taste
Man this channel is awesome. As a fellow music aficionado who also plays an instrument, I can really appreciate what you’re doing here.
Best subscription I ever made! What terrific work you do!
I absolutely love your videos. Been loving your exponential growth as CZcamsr. Much deserve! 👏🏾 👏🏾 🎉
Thank you so much! 🙏 having a lot of fun with these!
This is my favorite bass guitar channel on CZcams. Thank you for making so many great videos. 🤘👏👏👏❤
This is rapidly becoming my favorite channel. Excellent vid!
Very nice work! Enjoyed this!
Love your videos and so happy you’re on CZcams! Thank you!
Grateful for your storytelling abilities - keeps me tuning in every-time you put out a video.
Recommending a “Jamaican bass-lines”version of this. Can’t go wrong with Dennis Brown’s “Revolution” with Robbie Shakespeare on bass (RIP).
At 0:46 I subscribed to your channel. First time seeing you, but I have seen enough bass teaching channels to know where this is going and I'm sure I'm going to love this.
Damn dude your channel is a godsend. So interesting, well researched and excellently produced. Thank you 🙏
Try “Glide” by Pleasure. It one of those special Funk aficionados cuts. Bass gettin’ it though the whole song.
By the way, “Getwaway” is that gun blazing cut. No lie.
Just found you channel, and this is my first vid. Been slinging the 4 string (and more) for years. Love your song choices, attitude and presentation. New subscriber!
Great video and selection. Following!
Man, I just love your channel.
This channel is becoming my favorite one so quick!
🙏🙏🙏
Bass can be so subtle but at the same type, can set the whole tone of a track. I love it.
brother this is my new favorite channel. incredible work
Thank you SOOO much for taking the time to inspire here. Such a characterful and tight delivery.. You lickin' those strings too. Digesting all this input - Happy FridaYAY! x
Fantastic channel, love the content! 🙏🏿
Where has this video been all my life? This will be utilized for the show tomorrow, thank you funky sir!
Thank You so much, your channel is my Music Library!!!
Kenan & Kel bass line being included here is so clutch. Loved it since childhood.
exactly! i still remember the rap included with the intro too! 🥵🥵
One of my favorites is the bassline from Sesame Street's number song (the one with the pinball video). Great bassline by Bob Cranshaw, and it's always fun when someone asks 'what's that?' to say 'oh, just something from sesame street'.
😂😂😂 love it
You gotta love a children's song with oil drum jazz solo's in them :D
sung by the pointer sisters as well, that tune goes hard!
Now I gotta find it 😮
Edit : Found it and you're right funky bassline there's a video of a guy playing that Sesame Street bassline
This is on point as a subject for a video and I can't wait to see what the tracks are.
I have often relied on jungle boogie but it's toooooo recognizable
You absolutely have scorched the earth with these bass lines
glad I bumped into this channel... very informative and funny at the same time ..... good stress relief
Nice selections!
Dude you killed that Thundercat bass line! New favourite channel right here.
Gosh thanks for the new video!!! 🥰
Love your videos so much
What a cool idea for a video, love it!☺️
This is the BEST channel on CZcams....Period!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
LOVED THIS SO MUCH
Hell yeah!
I wasn’t sure if this list would be a good one, and then he busts out with “Come Down” on the first one.
Subscribed immediately for that.
Funk is the answer , great video as per usual 🤜🏿🤛🏻
Great video, brother. You got a new subscriber!
Excelent video, thanks
This channel is PERFECT
This happens to me every time!!! Great video!
I enjoy the music content you present on your channel Sir. Great job 👍.
I’ve never heard Getaway played so funky ! Just liked and subscribed !
You cant mention "All Night Long"/"Rising To The Top" being sampled by so many artists and leave out the best one: "Smooth Operator" by the great Big Daddy Kane. This is the first place I heard that bassline and it was that groove that made me want to make music. That bassline made me think "hey,I wanna do that. " It planted the seed. Just listening to music wasnt going to cut it. I didnt immediately get a bass. I was a kid. I had to buy my bass and amp on my own but managed to do so my freshman year in highschool. Even then I couldnt practice much as my father worked long, late hours and slept during the day.. It would be a few years before I could really put time into it and I was truly humbled when I realised I might not be famous or on tour as quickly as I though🤣
Can’t overlook Doug E. Fresh & The Get Fresh Crew’s “Keep Risin’ To The Top”, which preceded the BDK track.
That’s a hell of a playlist ! 🙌🏻
I’m a guitarist first and always loved listening to Jamiroquai. I loved the bass in their songs, so I bought one, and I now listen to them even more. So much great bass in there! Bassist is Stuart Zender btw
Love this!!! I gotta throw in my favorite sample of these songs though. "All Night Long" was the foundation of my favorite Big Daddy Kane song "Smooth Operator". Classic!
Great video. Salute.

Love your channel! For soundcheck i usually play digable planets - rebirth of slick
What a great channel🤘😎
OK, that's the second one of your videos I've watched now, and my oh my this is going to be an epic adventure of binging!!! (I honestly have to admit, that I still don't know how to spell that word) yes, you did it again, just incredible, and as my husband is a bass player I am forwarding this to him right now. I just know he's going to love it too. thank you Kind Sir.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a video that has so much love for bassists all around the world. I feel cared for.
Man never seen your vids but man great video. I loved a great compilation of deep cuts and hallmarks with fun facts. I'm a sucker for fun facts
I’m glad that the topic of bassline AND bass line were both covered in this vide too
Sir, That Getaway you played made me wanna pull my trumpet out! You say it's difficult but by the way you played it, I sho couldn't tell! It was 🤌🏽 mwah!
I'm glad I found your channel. It makes me appreciate the music I love so much more, and makes me want to delve back into playing again
You have just inspired me to learn how to play base guitar.
Thank you.
I've been enjoying your videos keep it up. Love from South Africa 🇿🇦❤
I want to thank you so much for introducing me to the Bernard Wright album Nard! I have been playing in funk bands for 20 years and never heard this album... It is a missing link for me in many ways :-) So awesome!
Man I just like to play riders on the storm whenever I can, dont know if its good for soundchecks but its and awesome easy bass line. Great vid btw, was surprised when I saw this wasn't a multi-million yt channel.
All your vidz are great but I'm lovin the bass stuff!!! Dusting mine off after being inspired here
Dust it off! Learn some good bass lines, play whatever YOU want to play, and have fun! What’s a go to bass line for you?
@@diggingthegreats Thanks man! I Want You Back is a go to for me, deeply ingrained in the ol muscle memory
These bass lines are funky as heck, all these choices are great!! ✌️😁
Solid list My Brotha!! Thanks for turning me onto Mac Miller!!
'Glide' by Pleasure is the ultimate KILLER funky bassline. Many have tried to play and have failed.
Next is 'Get On The Floor' by Michael Jackson. Also two from Teena Marie, 'I Need Your Loving' and 'Square Biz'.
I do love me some Louis Johnson.
"Space Cowboy" Jamiroquai (Stuart Zender) 🔥🔥
Dude! Nice lines! You're accepted into the soundcheck 😄
i love the intro amazing
"Funk proper". All the greats are great, but I could listen to your groove and deep pocket for days and days and days...hardcore man. I've subscribed, (and I never sub to shit). 100% bravo bro
I think I love you. So much knowledge
Goddamn! I found this channel like a month ago…literally my favorite channel now
Instant like and sub.
The Intro😂😂😂🙌Brilliant!!!
This channel! Popped up in my recommended last month and was an immediate sub; great facts mixed with cool wit. I'm inspired to pick up my bass once again. You deserve the continuing success 😎
🙏🙏
This is actually exactly what I was looking for
Fuck yeah... Dude I already loved this channel for the music lore, but then you bust out with some bass content... As a bass player myself, this channel is everything I've ever wanted... Keep it up man...
... Oh and another bass line for your list, Mr. George Porter Jr, with...(you guessed it) the Cissy Strut...
Cissy strut is a classic!
I spent so much time learning the fill from what's the use, but it's my favorite reminder that I can play when I'm feeling down 😂
My go to sound check bass line is runaway by jamiroquai
haha loved the video, the beginning gave Cory and the Wongnotes sketch vibe.
It's amazing how accurate this recommendation is
I always show out at sound check lol
People say “hey man you already got the gig” haha
Am up all night watching your videos
First time watching him; 30 seconds in and I am *suscribed*
Funkin for Jamaica is one of the coldest baselines. My mom made me burn this song on so many CDs.
I’m from the west coast too so you know I’m stepping in my chucks 🕺🏾
Running Away - Roy Ayers, Westchester Lady - Bob James
Dude… you’re my spirit animal. Love your content.
😂😂Thank you 🙏
“We Want Bootsy” - Bootsy’s Rubber Band. He was giving some of the most innovative lines of the entire OG Funk era.
Thanks!
Just learning bass I will try all of these bass lines thank you
These are great for jammin and open mike stuff
Always wanted to buy a bass guitar.. This video convinced me to finally pick one up 😎
duuude, ive been playing bass since middle school, and i feel very versed in the world of guitar music but ive always wanted to transition into spinning and making beats. could you or have you made a video about the evolution of your musician journey? or maybe how to get into the more electronic world if youve spent all of your life as a string guy?
LOVE THE EWF AT #1. Verdine the great
