Dork here: had heard of The Epic of Gilgamesh In a white belt competition expect people to come at you very hard for the first 30 seconds due to the adrenaline, and then fade massively and run out ideas😂 you guys will do fine. (And then there will be sandbagging guys who should be blue belts but love the glory of winning white belt comps- not much you can do about that.)
I'm with Eoin on this one. Everyone's heard of the Epic of Gilgamesh. Those of us who studied history instead of a "real degree" are all about that stuff. Also a comment on your Ukraine discussion: there's a lot of weird irredentism in eastern Europe. I'm an American in a city with a high concentration of immigrants. I know Hungarians who believe that they deserve the whole of the Hungarian crown lands that were divided after the great war. Left bank Ukraine has been part of Russia since the Russo-Turkish war of 1686-1700, so it's not surprising that lots of Russians don't believe that Ukraine is a real country. That said, all support to our Ukrainian brothers.
There isn't anything more important than history. There's no today without yesterday. The world would be a much better place right now if everyone knew real history.
Bald and Bankrupt has explained why he went bankrupt. He also speaks Hindi fluently. I also find it funny you called him an old man. He’s only a couple years older than me lol.
The bald and bankrupt back story is public. He was married to a Belarusian, hence the fluency. His life in the UK was actually quite disappointing to hear about
As other people have said I'd put my money on Stan Eff. if I had to. Also the Epic of Gilgamesh is definitely within the limits of "non-esoteric-knowledge"...
Temped to return to BJJ but there's no possible way I can keep my marriage, improve my squat and do BJJ. Twould be tough to tell the wife I want a divorce so I can struggle cuddle with men.
I think we rightfully criticize the hypocrisy when there is no similar global outcry and calls for action when bad shit happens in the Middle East or in the Global South in general. Especially when it is the West that is responsible for the invasion or instability in many of these countries.
Again I find myself siding with Gurph on a controversial question, but of course I have heard of the epic of Gilgamesh. That being said, I am a dork, so take it with a grain of salt (pretty sure Daire is right in that only dorks that took mythology in school would have heard of it). I also noticed yesterday Daire that you kept your word and didn't give even a single comment about my post from the coaching live stream. The ire of an Irishman is nothing to sneeze at.
For the jiu Jitsu comp, I competed in one a few years ago and the biggest thing I didn’t expect was the intensity. In training leading up to it , it was just normal rolling but once we got in the comp it was 100 mile per hour.
Of course everyone has heard of Gilgamesh but thats not the oldest tablet. That title changes about every 2 years or so nowadays. The Nanni or maybe the Dispilio tablet is the oldest currently.
How come a lot of the podcasts don't seem to be available on spotify? I usually listen to them between sets at the gym and spotify is much better for that than youtube
Multiple people have already commented on it, but The Epic of Gilgamesh is also required reading where I'm from in high school. Also part of the "history" that's taught at the start of lit. classes in high school. Do you not learn literature history in Ireland?
I'm with Eoin. Gilgamesh is a name that comes up a lot in popular culture.
Also the guest is 100% Stan Efferding
Had to read the Epic of Gilgamesh in university…I’m with Eoin, everyone should know that name 😂
9 out of 10 dentist recommend flossing. Joe Rogan: “that 10th dentist is on to something.”
Can’t wait to hear Stan efferding on the podcast guys I think that’ll be a great conversation
Gilgamesh was required reading at multiple grade school levels where I lived in the US and again at University.

I’m familiar with the Epic of G. My guess was the Code of Hammurabi.
Lads, can we have patron podcasts rather than ads on CZcams? I'd happily pay a few bob for no ads
Read Gilgamesh in high school.
Pretty wild they’re still training in Ukraine.
Love you fellahs keep it up
Best of luck gents. New stuff is super.

Gilgamesh is common required reading. Maybe you just read the spark notes and that's why you don't remember it
Stan Efferding obviously
She sells seashells on the sea shore
Seen a thread shedding a bit of light on bald and bankrupt, looked fairly credible and yeah you don’t want to know 😅

I guess Fitz didn't randomly get that one Gilgamesh CZcams video suggested on his feed. Or was that just me?
