      This is machine translated. It becomes obvious at 9:00 when the tour guide explains how to write the brand name in Chinese characters: "A celebration is a celebration of celebration." I think what she says is this: "庆"就是"庆祝"的"庆" = "qing" as in "qingzhu". Then again, I know about three words of Chinese.

    remember that Nov 2019 I went to department store in Pyongyang but it wasn't this store. We have to change our currency to DPRK Won first and then shopping. The rest money we may brought to home but dont keep it in jacket or pants pocket in the airport xray check point the officer would seize it.

    As interesting as it was to see inside a NK supermarket, it was a shame the video just showed the junk snacks. Practically everything shown reminded me of what you'd see in a Chinese supermarket too. I wish they'd shown the meat, fruit, veggie aisles, but most of all I'd liked to have seen the deli section with local foods.

    The North Korean grocery store is quite similar to the same stores in China. In reading the comments on the lovely guide, seems all have the same eyes. Pink shirt to grey shirt, does not matter--still lovely to see.

    Interesting how almost all of the packaging is totally opaque. The only thing that was identifiable as food ,and not just food packaging, that I saw were some peanuts and some colored liquids that they were not able to buy. I would like to see them choose something right off of a random shelf, pay for it, and then immediately open bag and proceed to eat it without any jump cuts.

    I don't really understand why 7,500 won at 3:41 should be 5 US-dollars. As far as I know, you get about 70,000 won for 10 dollars at the department store number one in Pyongyang. According to this exchange rate, 7,500 won are $1.07, and that seems to be a reasonable price for the cookies ($5 would be much too expensive). Can it be possible that the dollar prices the lady is referring to are wrong?

      Since the DPRK has little to no foreign trade currency conversions are not very meaningful. Prices should be evaluated based on the average wage in DPRK wons. I'm not sure what that is or what criterion is used for conversions.

    5RMB (Chinese dollar) is under 1 Euro. There was another video on Echo Of Truth where the prices were blurred out and people were saying it was because everything was super overpriced. Non name brand stuff in Germany is around the same price as these cookies.

      With regards to the subtitles, to err is human, the translator simply made a mistake (coincidentally the translator typed "it's about five dollars" first). Simply search the conversion rate of 7500 KPW (North Korean Won) to USD and CNY and you shall understand.
      If you still believe the price is 5 RMB, that is your choice.

    In 2022 the minimum wage was approximately 9,100 North Korean won... and a package of cookies costs 7,500!! Ridiculous, no normal North Korean can afford to pay for those products. Even the exchange rate in euros (about 7.5 euros) for a package of cookies is abusive!

      Some milk tastes horrible and only works for cooking while other brands is very delicious to drink. Depends on what cows are used, which season it is made and what the cows has eaten.

      She means Yuan..........a better way to read the prices is the North Korean Won is about 9000 to US$........so most things shown are way under $1 and the noodles about 18 cents (1500 Won).

    N Korea has a strong industry foundation if most of the products in this supermarket are made in N Korea, at least they are go toward a right direction, once opening up their economic gradually to the world, they could develop very fast

      Basic self sufficiency is the key. That's what China did first. They are both GMO free too, which makes a lot of diffetence. Those countries that didn't manage to tackle the basics sell themselves to tourists.

      @@syamsul6063 French is a common foreign language in DPRK? I didn't know that, what's the reason? Also what percentage of people there speak western languages at all? Because in China only few people have english, and even fewer can speak other European language. Generally learning those languages is very hard for asians.

      That's language matter.
      Chinese word for joy is 乐 and Chinese word for paradise is 乐园, so in Chinese, the word 'paradise' contain 'joy' character.
