The Amanda Todd thing is actually an interesting case study, not of Cyber bullying, but rather of, tbh, bad parenting. The girl was physically assaulted, blackedmailed into producing CP of herself, and never received any appropriate help for any of it. Afterwards her parents started blaming "cyber bullying" and "cyber bullies" for her death. The fact that her sexual abuser is often referred to as a "cyber bully" is kinda disgusting ngl.
That story made me cry. She never deserved anything that happened to her. She cried out for help so many times and she was ignored every time. Its so heartbreaking.
yeah it was csa and trafficking not cyber bullying.
I literally tear up when I think of this story, I hope her abuser rots in hell along with her parents
@@riffshe20 agreed.
it was all of that. also apparently the person who blackmailed her was some 30 year old in europe who did it to other young kids as well and the canadian police did nothing to help amanda or make any effort into trying to find the person. it was only after the guy targeted someone else that the police of his country or a neighbouring country looked into it and tracked him down but by then it was too late for amanda. she had to deal with assault, blackmail, forced to make those types of videos, and the ppl at her school would bully her for it, and every time she switched schools, somehow the guy and the old school would leak info to the new school. she never had any moment of peace. idk much about her parents but i feel like they did not know how to deal with this other than moving and when that didnt work, they just kept asking the police for help who only told her to stay off the internet.i personally wouldnt go as far as saying it was bad parenting cuz no parent would want this to happen to their child and it was early on in the 2000s that they also are not aware of how to help.
i have heard rumours tho that the parents were not helpful to amanda cuz they would victim blame her, idk how true that is. also i wish they had moved to a farther place and tried to home school or get her a tutor. just get her away from public school for a while. get her to delete all her socials. a complete new start and if she does get socials then an entire fake profile. theres also the option of like catholic school or private school, harder to get info about them so no one should be able to figure out where she went. its wild that ppl were stalking her? how did they find her new schools and locations i wonder.

This movie is honestly hilarious. I know that the movie's tone is supposed to be serious due to the subject matter, but it constantly hits the wrong notes. The pill cap scene is the best example of that. It's dark comedy at its finest.

To this day, I still can't understand why her "friend" Samantha created that fake profile that started all the problems 🤷. The scene where she confesses, I didn't get it and I still don't
Yeah I don’t understand why did she do that? Jealousy?
Samantha said in the film it was to get Taylor to realize she couldn’t trust guys like Scott so the fake guy was supposed to hurt her so she could have a “you were right” but it got out of hand by Lindsay and Taylor got way more bullying out of it. I don’t agree with it but that’s what her purpose was.
Latent lesbianism is my legit guess like it’ll be years later and she’ll be like “ oh shit I was crazy because I couldn’t just be gay in high school” it the only explanation that makes sense she couldn’t be this invested and aggressive otherwise.
Sometimes girls in high school are crazy bitches for no good reason. I knew at least 6 girls in high school who pretended to be my friend for a bit, just to pull a mean prank on me or stop being my friend for no reason. That's not even including all the countless people who were just plain mean to me. High school sucks. I truly would've homeschooled myself from 8th grade on if I knew that was an option. Thank god that's over.
Caitlin Fitch amen to that. Read my stand alone comment. I completely understand.
they showed this to us in 9th grade health class for bullying awareness and during the "i cant get the cap off" scene people were laughing so hard the teacher had to pause the movie and turn off the lights to get us to calm down

There’s a much better anti-bullying movie I was show back in high school called “Odd Girl Out.” While it does have that “PSA filter” on it, it is much more serious and the main character is much easier to root for.

I'm sure you wouldn't laugh if they made a video about you in the same way the bullies in the movie did.
@@ME.S.E Yeah trust me, I know what it's like to have everyone against you. I am a Christian and the Bible basically says that on earth Christians will be hated and persecuted for their beliefs. My friend was literally cussed out in the hallways and screamed at and people took videos of her and called her horrible things just because she was a Christian. However, I understand where you are coming from with the "if they made a video about me" thing. You're right, I probably wouldn't laugh if people made a video about me like that, but when I said that "I would laugh if they insulted me like that", I was mainly referring to the part where the bullies called her and her friends the "skank patrol" in the bathroom.

the most iconic line of this movie is literally “I CANT GET THE CAP OFF” PLSSSS
Honestly the part she upset cause she can't open bottle screaming is actually accurate. Cause have been there. Cause in the moment you can get VERY shakey an mind all over place so hard think. i LOVE the movies you choose you really have impeccable taste in 2010s pop culture
Amanda Todd and Megan Meier were inspiration for this. Megan was from Missouri (my home state) and her family has worked to get cyber bullying laws put in place after she committed suicide. Cause she’s from my state we learned a lot about it in school.
Ok I thought about it and I figured out how to fix the pill cap scene lmao simply have it be set more in the main characters point of view. Make the shot chaotic and Shakey. It's so hilarious because it's like we see the bad friend power walking and then someone who looks pretty put together for a breakdown but is still struggling with a cap. If the shot was more messy the visuals blurred to give us that "I'm having a breakdown and panic downing Tylenol" feel. In a better movie it could have captured that desperate feeling of everything crashing in at once and the panic of wanting to be gone but not really knowing how or what to do. Because the crying and saying I don't want to die afterwards actually made me feel something and it's the only part of the movie I actually get this twinge of heartache.
THAT INTRO THOUGH, “DURING PRIDE MONTH?!” LMAOOOO XD
i think the amanda todd story really made ppl aware of cyberbullying but its not based on it at all bc amanda actually suffered a lot. luckily, they recently arrested her stalker and the man who caused her suicide. shes getting justice so late.
