Rarely does a song. Any song. Send chills up my spine like this song does. I'm 70 years old. It sent chills up my spine when I first heard it on the radio and still does this to this day. Little Anthony isn't so little. I can't imagine anyone else singing this song so that it almost permeates out of his pores. If I witnessed him singing this to his girl then I'd fall to my knees and cry like a baby. Who says there's no power in music? Have you ever asked (begged) a girl to stay and she didn't? Case closed. With a life time of regret.
I'm 73. I still remember his performance on Ed Sullivan. The song is haunting. It reminds us of our heartbreaks in our teens and 20's. Did I have one girl who I loved but she never felt quite the same way? Of course I did.
And he’s singing live with an orchestra behind him. This means he has to project his voice high and loud over a distance. It’s a very hard thing to do. He has great talent
@@Stand663 This is live singing, but it could be the backing track (note the backup singers have no mic). Amazingly, the backing track or orchestra starts to slow in the first bar, then speeds up and Little Anthony doesn't miss a bit. The second line also increases it's pace and is in a different key (on purpose) in the record and the stage recording. Little Anthony again is unfazed. Absolutely amazing. Very close to the record in style, but there are small nuances that are different. I think this performance is even better than the record.

He sings this song with such powerful emotion you can feel it, touch it, and you recognize the pain of losing a lover, you have felt it in your own heart. Here is Little Anthony expressing that pain more eloquently than any poet or any other artist can. It is a beautiful and exquisitely poignant song that pierces my heart each time I hear it and it does so because of the honesty and artistry in Little Anthony's soulful, powerful, immortal voice.

@@proudbluestaterful I used to go down to Baltimore a lot from New York City in the late 60's and early 70's.
Lil Anthony opened for Bob Marley at the Paramount Theater in Oakland. The first time I saw Bob Marley. Totally blown away. "Live the dream these artist live forever in our hearts".
Back in da day.
When people really fell in love.
And weren't afraid to say so.
We've all been there. What an incredible performance.
Yes indeed! Little did I know at the time this song was released that one day I would really know what this meant
Man the singer's back then knew how to sell a song. this is awesome
I wish they made music like that now
If you lived through this time as a teenager you can remember your heart aching thinking about your lost love, boy did it hurt!
If only they still had music like this today- its so real
I love this song
Can't stop listening to it
Very soulful music
Thank you for posting some great music
Empress_Of_Love1 why don't you stay and let me make it up to you 😵😇😵😵😭😭😍 please don't go
Just love this man ...he was fantastic and yet while he was popular others took the limelight.
The line that gets me everytime "You loved me before, please love me again,...(and then he sings with force) I CAN'T let you go back to him,..please don't go, please don't gooooo!!!"
The ultimate beauty and emotionally ever captured in Any music ever. The haunting depth of love the song is engulfed by Little Anthony is once in a lifetime. With that command, genius, and helium voice brought forth which is unmistakable, irreplaceable and impeccable on every artistic level. Evoking "that feeling" of young unbearable love if 💔 broken can change you forever. To have it ALL - and Charisma is what makes you fall in love w/ them. My Father was a World Class classical concert pianist. I trained as well. I learned to read. Write, play piano 3 years old on-- The only other thing my Father who was quiet, refined, non jugemental... did say: And there will NEVER EVER BE ANYONE WITH a voice like KAREN CARPENTER AGAIN. SOCRATES: QUOTE: " ALL I KNOW IS ONE THING AND THAT IS I KNOW NOTHING". MY FATHER felt as humble. He had humor, he said but Karen is All I know about.! Right ON DAD!!
VALENTINA Jean Prokofiev
RuhJeeNah, Wow! I am a lover of music but not a musician, though I said the same thing! Karen Carpenter's voice takes me to far places...
For me it's 'like needles and pins...' maybe it's the reversal of the term 'needles and pins' that makes it stand out so much, it's so memorable :)
Brings back good memories...age 15 listening to older brother's records
Hello Linda, How are you doing?
One of the best songs of all time.
Raw talent. The singing, the moves. You don't get this today.
