Snap on is going to turn this idea into a machine and sell it for $15k
As a Snap-On engineer I can confirm we are working on it.

They already have a fog machine. You can do the same thing and you don't need soap you just look for the fog
Then Harbour freight will have it 80% less than strap on and be twice and crappy in build quality.

Outlet pressure of shop vac ,what a good idea ! Thank you !

Sometimes you have to repeat what was said to remember it
Why is everyone so upset over this comment😂 dud just said it was a good idea. Complimenting the channel. What a bunch of fruit cakes
I don’t normally comment on videos , but this is a great job dude , you just saved me a bunch of time and burns 🤙🏻
Brother, you just saved me a whole lot of time, and I value my time. Thank you so very much.
Now that is pure genius! Excellent use of everyday tools to diagnose and resolve a common problem in an affordable way. 👍
That blows my mind. In 15 years as a tech I've never seen this. I can't wait for my next exhaust leak 😁
You are the first person to ever say that.
👍🏼 Now _this_ is a mechanic!
Have done this several times. If you have catalyst efficiency codes, exhaust leaks up stream of the o2 sensors are very common. The shop vac method gives you time to check the whole system, and you don’t have to mess with adapters and a regulator for shop air.
Do you have a video of when you used this method?
@@GripFreak I do not. It’s very simple to do though. Connect the hose to the outlet side of your shop vac, put it over the tailpipe and wrap tape around pipe/hose end connection to seal it as best as you can. Get a spray bottle, put about a 1/4” of dawn in it then fill it with water. A nice soapy solution like that is perfect for spraying down any suspected areas. It will bubble up nicely, even from a small leak.
Yes I'm getting GENERIC O2 sensor codes (p0032 HO2S Bank1sensor1) but I think it's the vacuum leak causing this. Good catch‼️
Thinking outside the box. Awesome tip.
Hey brother that's a damn good idea thanks for that video
Nice. Anything that takes the heat out of the equation is a good idea in my book
Thank you for sharing... That was well needed info... You taught an old dog new tricks
Please do this with a clean filtered Shop-Vac so you're not blowing dirt debris in your exhaust valve into the cylinder to wreak havoc
That’s exactly what I came to say!
Duh
How are you gonna filter all of those chunks of rust?
Every vac has a filter in it lol if it were removed the unit wouldn't last very long
Maybe a good idea to put a thin rag at the vacuum outlet. Probably not the best filter but it's something over nothing.
I’m no mechanic but I don’t see a single place that it may have been sealed. Probably sounded awesome. Great demo vehicle
Good job 👍. That's the difference between a good mechanic and a guy that just changes parts.
I learned this on Chris Fix channel and helped me so much
Right on time because I was about to drop cash on a smoke leak detector. Thanks!
We call this thinking on ur feet. Nice job. I'ma use this soon.
Great idea. Gonna use this to find a leak on my car that has eluded me.
Ingenious!! Hope this gets noticed by manufacturers as incentive to improve those products! Thanks for the public service!
You have changed my life
I f ing hate hearing exhaust leaks, subscribed.
That's a great idea! I love it, thank you for sharing this!
Man I love it when someone finally comes thru on yts w a useful trick that I can store until the right time its needed
I just learned me a new trick today thank you
I love how hood this is absolutely genius
This has to be the smartest and most ingenious "hack" I've seen on CZcams in ages!! Great idea!
Thanks, great tip for us back yard hicks!! Great job !!
My boy that's an underrated comment at the end there nothing worse than working on a hot exhaust
now THIS is great information. thank you sir for sharing you invaluable knowledge 🙏
Cheap, crude, and effective.
Genius.
Wow great idea! Definitely gonna use this at work
Great video! Old school we used trans fluid down the carb, look .
that's using what you got right there! nice work. stealing this for my bag of tricks.
Best cheap diagnostic trick I've seen on CZcams !
The thing is on some of them smaller leaks when the exhaust gets hot it will swell and seal them off.
Exactly
Not the way I drive
Eventually that small leak gets bigger and no amount of thermal expansion will seal it off.
Shut up.
You've got a point, but there is nothing wrong with addressing them before they become bigger and make problems for you later
Brilliant idea. Thanks for making the video!
That is very slick my friend.
Ingenious! Thank you for the idea.
oh heck son.. I have been bending wrench's since the early 60's and never once had I thought of that.. Slick brother..
i really need to get into the habit of considering both ends of my shop vac as equally useful, there are so many things I could have done way easier if I had used the outlet instead of compressed air or the suction end.
i feel you. i just cleared up a clogged drain like that, used both ends simultaneously until it was free
I'm trying to understand your comment, can you please clarify what do you mean? I know a shop vac has two holes; one for pushing the air out and one for sucking the air in. But the rest I don't understand.
Very cool, literally...good job, great idea!
Super idee en standaard aanwezig gereedschap! Top top top
I'm going to name my first child after you. Thank you for making this video.
👍👌👏 Simply fantastic! What a great idea! Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and health.
It's so leaky that the vacuum didn't even struggle
Heck yeah, man! Thank you. This is an awesome tip.
Thank you iv been chasing leaks.
Thank you for this video I’ll be looking for an exhaust leak tomorrow!
That’s an awesome idea! You earned a new sub with this video. 🦅🇺🇸👍🏻
Super clever trick thanks for sharing
I thought I was the only one who did this! I remember trying to figure a way to find exhaust leaks without a smoke machine and then it finally clicked. while it’s highly unlikely to damage the engine, I always run the vacuum and shake the hose for a minute, before hooking it up, to work out the fine dust from the hose.
Yeah I tried using a smoke machine too but they don't put out near enough volume so all the smoke leaks through the engine and water drain holes in the muffler and never builds any pressure in the exhaust to find the real leaks.
@@TechnicianRed agreed. When I was still a diy mechanic, I first tried starting the engine cold and sliding under the car as fast as I could to spray soapy water. Looking back it was quite comical and I never was fast enough to get to the headers. Great video. The simplicity of this test coupled with the availability of needed tools will help a lot of people.
@@peterweth I tried doing that same thing too 🤣
This deserves a like
NEVER EVER would think of that. GREAT IDEA.
Man I know a lot of tricks but damnit this is a new one and I'm gonna use the FUCK OUTTA IT.

Yes, my favorite way as well.
Holy shit. I've never thought of that. That's a great tip, thanks buddy 👍👍
I love it. Gonna try on my exhaust now. Put a bigger turbo in it and have to check for leaks.
That's awesome. I'm trying this very soon.
I never thought of that, thank you
Bro this has been the most informative and useful short I've ever seen, all the other videos telling you ya just use a smoke machine like who the fuck has that in their garage 😂😂 a damn vacuum though, THANK YOU.
Wow. Great idea.

Very cool idea.
Easier than a smoke machine. Thanks!
The vacuum getting vacuumed 😂
Good idea
BRILLIANT
Simple. I like it...Thank You.
Good idea thanks for the tip
Cool way too find a leak but know I need a vacuum
This method also great at letting you know which cylinder is on the exhaust stroke and has the exhaust valve open by the carbon pushed into it. Im sure it would be fine (seriously not being sarcastic), but I sure wouldnt risk it, flowing exhaust backwards on an engine not running.
That was my exact thought, and I had to scroll for a while before someone said it....
If you have carbon that bad you have bigger problems.
@@oliver_klozoff thats what fuel turns into when its burned. All engines have carbon. It's not a "problem", it's part of how an internal combustion engine works. Good try contributing though!
@@MrBill8706 what are you even on about? You're saying that you have carbon buildup so bad that the exhaust doesn't blow it out, but a little bit of back blast from a shop vac is going to suddenly dislodge so much that it'll cause a problem? Are you high?
@@MrBill8706 also if I wanted to be a smartass I'd correct you that fuel doesn't turn into just carbon, in fact most of it are gasses and a small amount of carbon so nice try.
Nice idea. I’ve plugged the pipe with rags and engine running and listened for air leaks or you could still use the soapy bubbles
Yo this is genius as long I clean my vacuum lol
Brilliant!! I'm gonna do this asap
Great idea!
Great idea. I'll use it. thanks
Dang! Good Idea! No burned fingers!
Great idea thank you !!
Nice definitely using this one
Awesome! Yer mom taught you the real way to use a vacuum! 😂
I use my dog dryer because it’s a little smaller and can fit in the exhaust tip better and works in the same way it’s great idea!
Bravo 👏.
