  • Ozzie has really been enjoying pulling out some of his tractors and things for you. In this video he recalls his interest in wagon building and shows you one of the wagons he put together some years ago.

    We had one, same color, but with one upright post in the center at the front. Dont remember the back, but they were both the same height. It had metal braces that were flat, like wagon rims. In the 50s, a board brook in the floor and dad just took the gear out from underneath it and left it to rot. He took the wood wheel gear out from underneath the grain wagon and put the metal wheels under the box. we then had nothing but the grain wagon to put bales in, which we did for a year or 2 till he bought a homemade flat bed trailer made out of a bus frame. We never liked it as, when stacking, the wheels stuck up in the middle sides of the bed. It had homemade guard rails over the wheels, but, and II cant remember exaactly why, it never worked good when putting bales on the bed at the center. The wheels didnt come up inside the bed at the same height of a bale so, when stacking hay there the bales tilted towards the outside. It worked tho overall, and I suppose its still on the farm

    • @OzziesOddities
      @OzziesOddities  Před 2 lety

      Wow neat you had one. I know what you mean about the bales not fitting quite right. We used to sell hay locally and folks would come with every different type of trailer or wagon. Some rigs were just perfect for stacking bales, others were just awkward to stack.

  • @williamchristopher1560

    HEY, WHere ya bean lol. Been missin ya.The 268 NH bailer I bought for $600 and then paid NH $937 to tune it up didnt work, and my hay is now straw. I thought that, it been old it would rather work with twine than plastic although it had plastic in it when I bought it and NH tuned it with plastic that was in it. ANYWAY, the twine didnt work, and its at $85 a bundle. Now im gonna take it out try to sell it on Facebook marketplace and buy a bundle of plastic and try that. Ill brush hog the windrows down. I got enough hay stacked around it to try it for a few bales. I hope your alright. If so, Please keep posting things around the farm. Anything is something that some people, like me, will want to hear about, that of the good ole days.

      @OzziesOddities  Před 2 lety

      Thank you! Ya know I don't know if I ever could have made it in the day where so much was done by horse, and by hand. Once you had a Farmall M or a John Deere A or something along those lines things seemed to really get easier. Those were good times in farming I think. Then when you get out of that era the economics changed. The work got easier but things got a lot more stressful. In my time farming I didn't mind the work near as much as the worry.

      @@OzziesOddities In the beginning of the video it looked like ya was talking about help. Appreciate the reply.
      Today was the 146th anniversary of Custer's Last Stand. The 7th Cavalry lost 260 men and 6 died later from wounds. That was a lot of men. Comanche was the only surviving horse and died in 1890. The horse was stuffed and is on display at the University of Kansas Natural History Museum. Government seems to love killing people. My next door farm neighbor was killed in Vietnam on June 21, 1967, along with about 80 others at the Battle of the Slopes. When I was there as a draftee in 1968, we lost 16,000.
