  • After six years of success, Koala has discontinued it’s original mattress and replaced it with three new models. The New Koala is the base mode, then there is the Calm As, and finally the Soul Mate. Finder’s Chris Stead has all three and after two months of sleeping on them, delivers his verdict in this 2023 Koala Mattress review. Is it still the best mattress in a box? And when it comes to Koala OG vs Calm As vs Soul Mate, which one should you get? Find out everything you need to know in this detailed review.

    Thank you for the amazing review, I was really wondering which mattress was better. Koala's customer care was surprisingly bad, they didn't reply to my questions about the product, but you have answered them for me!
    Also, I have decided to get the soulmate mattress, unless my partner decides that he wants to go for base model budget-wise.

      Thank you for the kind words Casandra. I'm still really liking the Soul Mate. The base model is good but the extra spend pays off. Good luck with your partner!

    i just bought a king. good review! We have a tempur and my husband is overheating. Its sinking so much i can feel the bed frame, we have had it only 4 years. I rather buy a koal, even the cheap one probably last as long as the tempur did

    • @motivatedtravel

      Thank you, glad you liked it. I think there's a noticible step up when you go to the Calm As or Soul Mate, but feeling how firm they all are, I can't imagine they'd ever sink to a point where you could feel the frame. That sounds horrid.

    • @rubthesleep

      @@motivatedtravel big lesson learned on tempur. the koala soul mate is way thicker too so i dont think its possible to sink that far unless it is seriously defective haha 😂

    I wouldn't buy any from Koala. I brought mine 2019, I wasn't sure as I researched Ecosa, Duck and Koala.
    I chosen Ecosa first and Koala for the gust room. Koala isn't bad, but you can't compare it with Ecosa.
    Even after a month , I had to buy a topper, as it was terrible to sleep on no matter what.
    My children complained and I ended up buying the bamboo topper from ebay. So not Koala.
    As well I brought the bed, but I sold it on buy swap for 350, just to get rid of it. The design is bad for small rooms, as the platform is heaps larger than the mattress, do watch your legs, toes....you will hit them plenty in the night.
    The Ecosa, I didn't needed anything, it wasperfect. I also brought the pillows and bed linen.
    However, unless you got one pillow from them, or even a pillow case, you have no clue what I say here. It's incredible beautiful. 😍
    The pillow is like a cloud and goes everywhere with me. The bedlinen feels like pure silk but it's bamboo. It is light , and cool in summer, but washed and folded up its heavy.
    Wash after wash it comes out still like new. The only downside!!!
    You hate sleeping in other beds after and like to be back in your bed. No hotel bed can compare.
    They got 120 nights sleep on it guaranteed and if you don't like it or agree with my statement here, they pick it up for free and donate it.
    I'm not getting paid or anything from them, it's my honest opinion.
    I can take pictures from both mattresses for you. As after having the Ecosa now 4 years and Koala 2019 , I believe I can judge them both.

    can you compare the firmness with other mattress, like im not a small person so i need it quite firm or would you think they are soft?

    • @motivatedtravel
      @motivatedtravel  Před 2 lety

      Hi Jasaur. I found it quite firm when I first laid down on it compared to my previous soft-top mattress. But it's a supple firmness. It feels comfortable, but doesn't over sink except right near the edges.
      I'm 100kg and 6ft 4 with a history of lower back problems. I've found my back has been a lot better since making the switch. I know that is not a direct comparison compared to a competitor, but in terms of personal experience I've been happy.

    • @Jappolah
      @Jappolah Před 2 lety

      @@motivatedtravel did you get a topper with it? Koala has told me if it is not firm enough they will send out a topper which is firmer. So o am tempted to by the new one for 1050 aud cause i only need basic. Would you say you can slide off the edge easily with it being so soft just on the edges

    • @motivatedtravel
      @motivatedtravel  Před 2 lety

      @@Jappolah That's a strange comment from Koala. All three mattresses come with a topper than can be turned between medium firm and firm. I have not heard of an additional even firmer topper. And I can't see it as an accessory anywhere on the website. The OG mattress is definitely flimsy around the edges - I slide off pretty easy if I try and sit on it. However, in the sleeping part of the mattress, it's fine.

    Same experience bought off ebay i think and it wasnt even the right size plus it was way too soft and you would sink into causing back pain

      @@aus-reviews8462 That's interesting. I ended up getting a traditional mattress in - $5000 from memory - and was expecting it to be much better. But in the end found the difference negligible. Could have been the brand I guess, Yinhala.
