Peter Weir is my favorite living filmmaker. So happy to see him honored this way! I love his beautiful films Witness, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Gallipoli, The Truman Show, Fearless, The Mosquito Coast, Master and Commander, Green Card, Dead Poet's Society, The Year of Living Dangerously, and the criminally underrated The Way Back!
you've gotta watch the plumber!
Incredible filmography
“Don’t you love something that’s well-made?” Congratulations to Peter Weir, whose films are *always* well-made.
Picnic at Hanging Rock his best film ever.
Peter Weir is a national treasure. One of the greats.
This is immensely emotionally powerful. One of the greatest filmmakers in the history of cinema. Congratulations Peter on this much well deserved achievement.
So happy for him to be recognized and honored this way, while he is still with us.
Fantastic, humble and genuinely down-to-earth Peter Weir, who's been such an astonishing inspiration to a lot of us here in Australia :) Many many congratulations!! 👏😊🎬🇦🇺
Witness is still one of my favorite movies, Weir did everything right, from the cast, the photography down to the score, amazing film!
He made a very good movie out of a cheesy script, and yet the script got the Oscar! That's Hollywood for you.
I sure hope he directs a Shackleton/Endurance film. How perfect would that be having done Master and Commander/ The Way Back
He claims that he is now retired from directing movies but it would be nice if all this enthusiasm convinced him to make one last masterpiece. (By the way: Count me among the untold many who enjoys your Robin Williams impressions, Mr. Costa!)
Having just read Endurance and being a long time fan of Peter's, that would be a dream come true!
He needs to make another movie! Very underrated filmmaker.
Always thought he should receive this award. The moment has finally arrived. So happy ❤️ Well, well deserved. Movies like The Year of living dangerously, Dead poets' society, Truman Show, Picnic at Hanging Rock ,Gallipoli, Master and Commander,Witness are unforgettable 👏❤️
Congratulations to Peter Weir on this Oscar! It was such an honor to be a member of Peter's crew on a couple of his wonderful films.
Lucky you. just love how Peter describes how to put together a team and what he looks for. Timeless wisdom.
I love Peter Weir and his films.
Such a good director
Best director ever !!!
Picnic at Hanging Rock 10 outta 10 🎉!!!
What an all killer no filler -filmography he has
Peter Weir is one of my favourite directors. His body of work is quite surperb - Master & Commander and Picnic being particular standouts for me. So happy to see him _finally_ honoured with an Oscar.
Finally, Peter Weir the great!
A TRUE LEGEND 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟!
Thank You Peter Weir for gifting us with those amazing and unforgettable films ✨✨✨✨✨
This proves ONCE AGAIN that honorary Oscar acceptance speeches BELONG in the broadcasted award ceremony. Letting someone so witty and articulate, with such a talent and dedication to the craft speak his/her mind without any stupid interruptions is way more engaging for the REAL potential audience of the show (people that love cinema and wants to actually hear them) than the whole unbearable ceremony without this part. Its not about how long the ceremony is. Its about how interesting it might be. Rhytm does not equal pace. That's basic editing knowledge. Oh well, i forgot those pros do not get air time either... Shame on you! Stick to your guns for once Academy and put ABC in its place. Talent is NOT their enemy. This would serve their best interest too, only they refuse to understand it. Stop trying to scratch your minds to reach an audience that does not care about any of this in the first place -and i'm not talking about age groups. Passion for cinema is transversal to any age as anyone with brains notices-. Your problems in that regard could be summed up with the dialog John Cleese once said in a memorable sketch from the "Spanish Inquisition" episode of The Monty Python's Flying Circus: "I'm mainly in comedy, uh, I'd like to be in program planning, actually,, but, uh, unfortunately i've got a degree".
I love when he talks about the crew and Norman Lloyd being a real friend asking how you are and meaning it
My personal Hero since Picnic
But I love him on witness
Me too! His movies always have great music too.
FINALLY
A master movie-maker who should be much better known as a film artist.
I'd love to see the video tribute to Peter if possible?
So would I.
Jesus, he is missed.
He's still alive , he's just retired!
@@DAS1962 😄 Yeah. I know. Hence this video being just a few days old. 🤦♂️ He is missed - as a filmmaker. Figured that went without saying, but you never know these days…
Still looks young and active.
Generous acceptance speech.
I could listen to the MASTER & COMMANDER (Mr Weir) all day/ night long. What a genius.
What a wonderful raconteur.
💙
Muito bom ver esse brilhante diretor sendo devidamente reconhecido
I’m so glad Ed Harris was there. I wish we could’ve gotten cutaways of Weir’s other collaborators like Jim Carrey, Ethan Hawke, Linda Hunt, Russell Crowe
Ethan Hawke apparently appeared in the tribute video which showed at the ceremony.
So many of his movies are the best to watch, must-sees.
Truman Show is my favourite of his, but Picnic At Hanging Rock grabbed my by the balls
Andrew Nichols directed the Truman show
@@mpdalyful1 What are you talking about, no he didn't. Andrew Niccol wrote the script. When Peter Weir signed on to direct, Weir actually changed a lot of it. It was Weir who insisted on setting the film in a fictional seaside community -- which drove the budget way up, but it was worth it.
I love listening to him. Legend.
Picnic at Hanging Rock the most mysterious film ever made 1975 Director of photography Russell Boyd, Camera operator John Seale Directed by Peter Weir.
Wow
great
What a legendary filmmaker! Why doesn't he make more movies. He doesn't look that old or worn out?
He is the Best I like how he talks about Norman Loyld
👏👏👏
Oscars do 4K.
8:03 Does anyone know who that blonde women in the black dress is? Also, is that woman with the glasses Gillian Armstrong?
Wendy Stites, his wife.
Truman Show changed my Life FOREVER/ Thank you Peter for sharing your knowledge with the WORLD through this movie/with "The Truman Show" (theologically speaking) I learned that God is somehow a Dictator who controls our lives and does whatever He wants with it- He chooses the loves of our lives, our jobs, our friendships etc. In fact we are ALL Trumans.
Glad we won’t see this on tv or at the ceremony. We need more cringe comedy and stupid sketches. Who cares about honouring a legendary director 😅
Oh Captain, my Captain! ☺️ 🥰 🙏🏾💕 God bless ya Pete 💋⭐✨🎞️🎥📽️🎬
Weir speaks too long.
And you as well.
Hi Red Zen, your feedback might be helpful to you most? How so? Maybe you may inattentive attention or ADD and don’t know it, yet? ✌🏼
Peter derserves more than an Honorary Oscar. Guy is an underappreciated legend who has made some of the greatest films of all time. I’m a huge Truman Show fan and just recently watched Dead Poets Society, two of his bests for me personally.
