The book Jordan Peterson recommended in the beginning was "Explaining Postmodernism: Skepticism and Socialism from Rousseau to Foucault" by philosophy professor Stephen Hicks. If you interested in this topic, Hicks gives a very concise summery of the 3 developmental stages that lead to today's form of postmodernism in this clip: czcams.com/video/1cuxEmy_Ipo/video.html
PhilosophyInsights Thanks for the link!
Also the book is a free pdf if you just google the title. Vidoe first, book for completion.
Word.
PhilosophyInsights none of you people even knew what the fuck postmodernism was before you heard Jbp talk about it
Also change the name of your channel, it's misleadingly general for your obviously politicized goal.
By, "you people" I assume you mean the blacks.
What you talkin' bout Willis?
D Alexander Berry are you feeling weak?
Another day of cleaning my room and listening to JP
Short Clips and Memes hahaaha absolutely. Especially after listening to his logic behind "cleaning your room".
Your room must be quite a mess if you have to clean it everyday...
Inoshishi another day does not precisely mean days in a row
I intentionally fuck my room up so i can listen to him.
Back in the not so distant day I used to throw a record on the record player (dark side of the moon ) and clean now I just don;t clean anymore therefore I rarely listen to music
I am a black woman that lives in America that doesnt feel opressed nor does she feel she is a victim. I want to make my ancestors proud, who suffered thru slavery. If they could see me i would want them to see me being succesful and helping the world be a better place. Too bad i cant convince my fellow brothers and sisters of the same. People are always going to discriminate regardless of what you think or want them to think. I cant change their minds, i can only change my attitude towards it.
Immanuel Kant Beautiful. And in doing so you WILL change minds.
All hail to Medusa! So nice to hear you coming forward and speaking out.
Very well put 👏👏👏
God bless you mam.
All hail to Medusa I am a white woman and far from privileged lol but I had to have the opportunity to talk to African Americans at my work , two were in their fifties and one man who was 21. They all believed their story of slavery wasn't told. It was amazing because 30years ago in all schools we had classics that touched on that topic like To Kill A Mocking Bird, uncle toms cabin, Tom Sawyer ECT but they were removed because they were considered racist. I felt it had come full circle and I was happy to talk to this young man and tell him about these books he never heard of. I had also let him know of the book 12 years a slave and ken burns documentary of the civil war. It's what we need is to just talk and share.
He is not just smart, he is brave considering all the sharks he works with.
lol
You're not kidding
Lol there are more false claims in this video than I can count
Yes, sir
He is a Hero of our time!
Hell, hje's rich as can be.
8:00 If you look at his hands, he's trembling as he talks. This guy truly has a passion to fight this shit.
Yeah, and he's truly brave for doing it.
I was in tears at the end. This man is talking about the soul of our western society, the very essence of which how our free speech and minds can be allowed to flourish, challenge and be challenged. To let this be demolished by a group of leftist extremist ideologues would be to spit upon the graves of our ancestors and the lives of our children. I'm not as verbally advanced or nearly as intellectually exceptional as Jordan Peterson but I could not help but have to write this... incredible speech by Mr Peterson.
sebbzterNr1 thank you
sebbzterNr1 A growing number of people feel as you do...that we've built something valuable & unique & MUST protect it!
Also, to his credit, he wasn't frothing or screaming, as I probably would have been had I delivered that talk. Always nice to discover there are good, smart people at work out there.
FWIW, there's a "style" of argument called the "double crux" that bears study for anyone who chooses to engage the misled, and on almost any topic. It's very helpful in getting people to change their minds (which is actually a lot harder to do than you might think.) Brought to you by the Center for Applied Rationality [CFAR].
Yes, it's a passionate topic. Sometimes I want to weep, sometimes find the right place to rampage...but I just continue to learn and try to inspire others. We need more wise leaders to be raised up.
So long as we drive things back to sanity and not beyond the proper balance. After all, every side of society has extremists for whom rational discourse and arguing based on facts is not of value. The most impressive ability of Mr. Peterson is his remarkable self control when faced with irrational, hostile, aggressive behavior.
Jordan B. Peterson for Prime Minister
I always wondered why every sociology student I met had a copy of the Communist manifesto.
First Last you should have one too
Henry Georgist And what “Georgism” does mean ..?
Do you know anything about the Communist Manifesto? You know there is a balancing point between socialism and capitalism. Communism is nothing more than a theory about what a post capitalist society would look like. Communism has never existed as far as any kind of state control. There have been authoritarians, for instance, the Khmer Rouge who are not the least bit communist but they considered themselves communist, which is comparable to the Nazi Party calling themselves national "socialists" We are so far to the capitalist side that people who have a massive amount of wealth are basically pillaging less developed countries with colonialism and basically stealing from the hungry and desperate and giving it to oligarchs. Shit is catching up with these oligarchs people won't go for this shit too much longer and they keep escalating class warfare against the proletariat by the bourgeoisie. Marx was absolutely right about the inevitable fall of capitalism. If I can get even one Peterson stooge to question Peterson's motive for demonizing a massive portion of the population and riling his sycophants to the point that they're willing to start an armed conflict. Peterson is an operative who is just basically trying to maintain an unjust, despotic power structure that currently exploits, terrorizes, and manipulates people into their control, and keep it in power.
If I were a sociologist I would probably familiarize myself with Marx's work. The cold war is over. Get over that "red scare" mentality of not even considering an alternative to the current power structure. I don't think you understand how influential of a philosopher Marx is. Those who have a tiny boner for capitalism need to accept the fact that capitalism is sinking fast.
blndrhed you do realize in every society we DONT have true capitalism.
We basically have chrony capitalism with interventionism .
I would love to see true capitalism.
"Liberals consider classical liberals conservative"
If I had a penny every time I was called a conservative merely on the basis of me being a classical liberal, I would be a fucking billionaire. Jordan hit that right on the damn money.
Same lol.
Hahahaha. Now they call it Extreme-Rights or ultra-conservatives
@@Jayako12 "Far-right"!
Same with me brother.
I watch this video every year, and each year it becomes more and more relevant.
I like the fact that a fellow Canadian is telling people to stop apologizing because that is basically half of our social interactions with each other haha. On a serious note, Dr. Peterson has had a great positive influence on the way people look at the world. I'm thankful we have a guy on the side of people in this country because because they are few and far between it seems.
Absolutely. We need more wise leaders to be inspired, rise up, and follow truth!
Alex Walker -
I really enjoy Dr Peterson's lectures! Very very smart man!
he is also very easy to listen to, very engaging.
I find that he speaks a little too much metaphor.
I also find that every once in awhile he will stretch his theories beyond what he is able to prove (that is philosophers for you :P).
I'll agree on that he might be somewhat too metaphorically at times, but mostly what he says is just the truth and allot of what i would consider as just common sense. He is an important man these days though. He is an amazing speaker and a intellectual black belt, as Joe Rogan said. I think allot of people have "woken up" because of his lectures and podcasts.
"common sense" in the sense that you cant back it up with evidence but take it as truth anyway because your idol says so? Of course Jordan is a flawed thinker, he's just human garbage like the rest of us. Fuck this cult of personality shit hold Dr. Peterson to the same standard you would hold someone you think you should disagree with to. THAT's common sense and i think the proffessor would appreciate being questioned by his students on the internet as on campus. You know why because examining your positions through getting challenged by well thought out counterarguments makes you stronger, having a bunch of ideologically possesed sycofants clapping your back, using you for their own agendas, makes you weaker.
+mobe
I believe the word you're looking for is a priori.
Most important man in North America right now.
gonna buy the book Exploring Postmodernism, and Jordan Peterson is amazing,
JohnnyApfelseed it has been 8 months since you left your comment. Have you read the book, and in that case, what did you think of it?
Ola Berglund Aside from the first chapter it's quite challenging to read
And the name is Explaining not exploring.
DID YOU READ THE BOOK YET YOU LAZY FUCK
The question was not for me, but I bought it and I am reading it. First of all, it's not for everybody. I can get dense and overwhelming if you are not used to philosophical texts or social sciences-style of writing. But it is very enlightening. It is so refreshing to read someone who's not kissing Marx's and Foucault's ass.
I remember meeting this SJW years ago, and i immediately felt he didnt see me as a person, as an individual. Instead, i instantly felt LABELED: white, bourgeois American woman. I instantly disliked him. I dont like being labeled and stuck in a bottle by anyone. Yes, i have some stereotypical attributes of my class , race, nationality and gender- but more than that- far more- i am an individual & if hed taken the time to get to know me, he would have found that out. We might have even learned something about each other. Instead i was nothing but a symbol not a real person to him. It was a strange and unpleasant experience to meet someone like that. I also thought it was incredibly arrogant.
dreams of turtles which SJW?
Iceman Yes, i understand that. We all label, and need to, to some extent. But, believe me, this was so purely political, thats all he thought in terms of. He was a boyfriend of a friend of mine- the actually stayed 2 days at my house, and the label he attached to me at first meet never fell off.
Interesting that he did the same thing to some old farmers i introduced him to down the road. He labeled them too- "ahh... the poor, exploited working class" They were proud people , did not like it and would have kicked him off the farm except that i had brought him up there... i thought it was pretty funny -& ironic.
@Icemaw -Pattern recognition isn't the same thing as the SJW'ers Identity politics.
dreams of turtles as a white guy I'm also getting labelled. Plus there's this idea that white guys get together to plot ways of hurting others, like some kind of reverse American Red Cross.
Bass Nerds Yes, this is the point i was trying to make in my original post, and from a personal experience of feeling that no matter what I said or did, this individual had me labeled and dismissed as nothing but the label he had a fixed to me . It is no way to relate to other human beings imo.
If I were a Canadian citizen, I'd happily vote for this person to be Prime Minister.
Capturing brief moments like this are treasures that cannot be measured. Truly profound. Andrew Breitbart described postmodernism before his death.
Canadian classical liberal here! Am i alone?
It's rather sad that we have to use the term "Classic liberal" to describe ourselves because the word "liberal" has been hijacked by the left. Fortunately this isn't the case in most languages, although it's only a matter of time...
Deckadad 1 You're not alone. Canada is being filled with non-whites. It's disgusting!
Alex Leaud I wouldn't say non-white immigration is bad. The problem is when they refuse to integrate. Multiracial societies are possible, even if hard to keep together. Multicultural societies are next to impossible.
Agustin L. Probably the most ridiculous comment I've read on the internet in a few days. Congratulations. Where have immigrants "refused to integrate"? What does that even mean? Canada is a multicultural society and works great, not the "next to impossible" scenario you've painted.
+Joe Smith You've been absent those few days I assume. Going back to the topic, just think of Muslim parents who refuse to let their daughters do a *lot* of stuff related to highschool and university. Going to the swimming lessons, attending classes that relate to diverse religions, etc. That is one example of immigrants refusing to integrate. This does not mean that Muslim immigrants are inherently harmful to Western societies, I've already said they are not. Yet they do cause trouble when their culture/religion gets in the way of having a peaceful relationship. There are liberal Muslims, for sure, and they are not a problem at all. Yet I think we can both agree that when their religion gets in the way, for instance think of fundamentalists, it is a problem. Keep in mind that Muslims are just an example, this extends to every culture, and even to Westerners who emigrate to other societies, in which case it's they that have to be open to their new home's customs. Multicultural societies are impossible in the sense that when neither side is open to new ideas, segregation arises, either by force (see 1930s everywhere, or Le Pen's proposals) or willingly (see Sweden's "Muslims only" neighborhoods). Also, I'm not Canadian so I don't know wether Canada "works great", as you claim, or not. I can only say that that's not the case everywhere. Just look at Sweden and, to some extent, France.
I recently dated a woman that turned out to be an SJW. It was a horror show of irrationality and emotional outbursts.
So you dated the average female now-a-days. [insert current year joke here]. Sadly, reasonable women in the millennial generation are becoming fewer an fewer.
Sounds about right. It's hard to keep up with all those inconsistencies, y'know?
Ryan P Brace for irrational claims of sexual harassment 10 - 15 years from now...when she's sitting alone with her cats & "remembers" that you didn't get a signed contract before you held her hand...
yeah i know, it´s an absolute shitshow
Glad to hear you beat cancer!
I got to speak with Dr. Peterson at an event in March. He is brilliant. Great listener and a cool dude. Very down to earth.
What a legend
Geez this passion Jordan, you're gonna make me cry
Brilliant. Peterson hits the nail on the head so well its downright satisfying.
beast mode engaged.
The Triad of RIGHTS -- Freedom - Power and Responsibility, you cannot really have one - without the other two.
12cunow unless you're a woman
borders, language, culture, race, religion = nation
Huh. Here I thought postmodernism was just nihilism.
nihilism is an aspect of it, not a summation
Melanoma it grows from it id say
It's not. That's a misconception. Nihlism is the idea that nothing has moral value. Postmodernists on the other hand feed on moral outrage. They set extreme value to their moral principles, so much so that they are willing to do anything to prosecute that which they deem morally inferior.
GepardenK I think they’re closely linked. They’ve diverted nihilism and created an alternative morality - the bizarre outrage one you speak of 😁
He is one of us!!
"...these young people, they are absolutely starving for responsibility...i mostly teach them how to be responsible...the paramount importance of the individual... and the divinity of speech."
Endless gratitude from my heart to yours, Doc.
This is one of the most impressive speeches I have heard.
Andrew Scheer the new Conservative leader said he would withhold funding for universities that disallow or shut down campus debated. This is the best news against the liberal government that I have heard in a long time.
wow this speech was GOLD
Thank you for this video clip. You are awesome!
Fantastic presentation from Peterson. Thanks for uploading!
JP is leading a good fight against postmodern identity politics. But somehow I can't believe he's a fan of the oligarchic conservatism in the US either. He seems more like a Classic Liberal with a lot of respect for Science, some respect for tradition, and with a fearless commitment to say what he thinks is true.
No, you are projecting your beliefs on the man. Instead, simply listen to what he says, and then judge. He's a self identified Christian, that believes the Christian way of marriage is the best. He believes that blacks should stop complaining about inequality, because at least we're 18th place (cheers). This is a disingenuous man, plain and simple. So much so that he tried to tell Sam Harris that the definition of truth is "anything that benefits you". A man who will attempt to redefine truth itself is not a man you should trust.
+Kingston Hawke You do realise that by Truth he didn't mean literal facts, right? He was talking about more abstract concept of what we view as True in life. Facts are true, but aren't the only thing that can be true. It's about differentiating the religious truths and scientific truths. That was the foundation he was trying to lay.
There's no such thing as religious truths. True literally means that it's reflective of reality. Watch some more apologetics, the key to all of their arguments is changing definitions. But if you pay attention you notice his own definition makes no sense if you use the underlining idea consistently. What he's really doing is interchanging both definitions (the actual one, and his made up one) on fly based on convenience. He even said on the podcast that he's struggled to reconcile Christianity his whole life. That's an innapropriate mindset to begin with. You don't assume Leprechauns are real, and then spend 50 years trying to make it make sense. Let's go back to the way he was claiming to use truth. If you say anything that benefits humanity is truth, then nothing can be false, because all things don't only benefit but harm humanity. From the Peterson's white superiority point of view Columbus cutting off native american kids fingers if they didn't pick enough gold was the truest of true because eventually it helped lead to this. Yet white privilege isn't because it stands to lessen white superiority in this country.
+Kingston Hawke. Ok, you dislike term religious truths. How about moral truths? Maybe simply morality?
Plus, you say that something being true is determined by it being reflective of reality. Ok... Do you consider allegories to be true? Or metaphores? They don't really describe factual situations. Yet, they describe truth. That is the term Peterson is using here. Fiction can be false - because it describes things that aren't real - and true at the same time - because it uses it's framework to present concepts and ideas found in real life. By the mentality of "Truth is reflective of reality", religious values can very much be true, by presenting metaphorical representation of reality. It's still reflective of this very reality, it's just reflective in a different way to empiric facts achieved through scientific analisis. Meaning, they are different kinds of truths. And ones which are much more commonly used by humans.
Consider this - where does statistical Joe get his own moral views from? Noone has time to read all the papers regarding psychology, biology, history and sociology to use them to form proper moral compass with which to move around the world. People mostly do, and always have done this by using stories of various sorts - religious ones, for example. And it's not irrational just because those stories don't present factual reality, because they can possess the same type of meaning that fiction does.
The struggle of Peterson doesn't come from the fact that he had no way to understand if Christianity is true, but WHY it is true. That's the concept. I had the same problem - I found arguments by New Atheist not actually true enough to fully define the touched subject. To arrive at a proper conclusion takes time.
Now, that last point, about "nothing can be false" - I don't think you realise the point Peterson tries to make. Yes, most things can have both good and bad results. But, it's important to remember, that there are different levels of good and bad, that's not a binary question. Peterson says that we should strive to preserve and promote ideas which contributed the most to the positive aspects of our current state in society. It's about every individual forming life which is the most meanigful and has the least amount of unnecessary suffering in it.
There are no moral absolutes if that is what you're trying to say. But of course a great deal of things can be true. I'm typing this on a keyboard I own, that's true. Has nothing to do with the perceived morality of the act, and where things really get silly is when you decide your external standard is whether it eventually benefits his particular society or not. My feelings have nothing to do with any of this, it's simply an incoherent inaccurate stance. Also if that's what you're claiming is your meaning for truth it still makes no sense to identify as a christian. By that standard he believes in the tooth fairy as much as he's a christian.
Morality in general stem from our desires. On the surface they seem universal because the majority or humans are basically similar in that we want happiness and to avoid suffering. But they aren't universal. That's why every culture has different morals. It's like football. The rules are subjective, we get together and decide on them... but once the rules are set we can measure against them what is or isn't moral the same way we can measure objectively what is or isn't a score.
Again, you use the word true so loosely it really has no meaning. Christianity can't be fact or fiction, Christianity is the collective, and clearly it exist. What we're speaking towards is the accuracy of the claims. And to identify as a Christian is to say you believe that all of the claims are true. What you and Jordan mean by true is really beneficial... so that's the word he should use. You and I having this conversation isn't any less true an occurrence if this conversation leads to the end of mankind. All that's going on here is people too smart to be Christians are trying to find a way to make sense so they can join the club. We should be better than that.
We raised a whole generation of kids with the federal government funding their education, and now we're all surprised that we got a generation of kids begging for more government.
Aidan C, Partially because our kids who stand up for themselves in the school systems are faced with retaliation and punishment by the system itself.
You've got it exactly backwards. Public funding for education is one of the very basic necessities to ensure equal opportunity. So is basic healthcare. What really constitutes the problem is the disguised ideology that doesn't advertise itself as religious, while it clearly turns out much like it. You've got the secular religion of the patriarchy and oppression by class, which nobody has sufficiently stood up against. This ideology is causing them to demand government intervention to take away other people's rights. My evidence for that is that the SJW-issue developed in America, not in Europe, where government intervenes far stronger in public education and healthcare.
What evidently does not happen enough in both places is in-depth understanding of true liberal values, the principle of individualism and what we know happens if you try the alternative. It simply isn't taught. Once everybody gets on the common ground that we deal with individuals, that everybody has the same rights and that feelings simply do not matter legally, you can give people access to facts and different perspectives, so everybody can make up their minds on being more right or left leaning. That will bring sanity back to politic discussion.
I think anyone who has been paying attention has plainly seen this ideology has creeped into our educational system. These days children are being taught things that are far too deep for them. It's creepy.
Pariah1974 its the lack of and driving out of men from teaching and homes, i needed my father to help me stop fearing the future but he wasn't allowed to be a father until he and mom divorced.
Pariah fuckin A.
This man needs to be seen and appreciated.
This speech is from four years ago. He saw it coming, man. And now it's here.
Dr. Peterson bringing it, like only he can.
He's definitely leading the way, but many more of us are going to have to bring-it to make the necessary changes a reality. It's time for each of us to clean our room.
Yeah, exactly, because he's surrounded by fucking morons on the Right, which tells you a lot about the Right. Pretty fucking stupid bunch of idiots.
+RRR LLL You don't exactly seem like the brightest bulb in the box yourself my dude. Have you heard of punctuation?
+RRR LLL You're not exactly looking like the brightest bulb in the box yourself, my dude. Have you heard of punctuation?
Thank you for laying this out logically! and with passion
I love this guy. He's able to speak what I felt frustrated about but couldn't express.
4:14 is by far the most wild and sobering part. I can’t stop replaying it. It’s unbelievable.
this guy is spot on.
serious beast of a speaker.
Peterson is a truth-seeker, and a man of courage. Not 'speaking truth to power' or any other slogan; just an individual trying to get at truth. Thanks a lot, JP.
I listen to JBP during the day to gain motivation. And i listen to him right before i sleep because his philosophical argumentation is just absolutely incredible.
Not all heroes wear capes...
Beast Mode!
Thank you for sharing. God bless.
In one of his books back in the 1960s Robert Heinlien wrote something to the effect that every time you hear the word "right" substitute the the word "opportunity" and it will change your perspective.
I've been listening to this guy a lot lately. It's a little scary because a lot of his thoughts resonate with me. I enjoy listening to what he says but I'm also afraid of turning him into a prophet mentally.
Wash Manblast What's wrong with prophets?
vodkacannon Prophets are and were professional charlatans and useless idiots who made lies for a living.
The world needs more wise men. A man that can live by example and persue truth is a great man to emulate. I haven't seen many men as worthy to lead.
A leader needs wise followers.
Men like him don't want anyone praying to them, but they sure love to share their wisdom.
I'm definately a disciple.
There is the Jordan Peterson I was hoping for. Fucking ay!
*What a miracle this man is! The most sane voice of our future!*
Awesome as usual.
HE. IS. MY. HERO!
The extreme left and extreme right are the problem. The left of center, center and right of center is the range in which reasonable ideas exist and can be discussed by decent reasonable people. Go JP!
Great video!.
I couldn't possibly like this more!
Brilliant words from Dr Peterson once again. Thank you sir for your guidance!
What a brilliant speech. Everyone should be made to watch this.
Leaves me with a big awe every time. Respect.
Thank you Prof Peterson!
Thankyou JORDAN PETERSON
for speaking the truth
fight for right
fight for goodness
fight for freedom of speech
fight for life
We need more open dialogue and common sense reasoning like this to bring balance to the current chaos of over emotional and violent protests that are happening around the world. Thank you Professor Peterson for bringing common sense into what has become a very confused world.
Awesome as usual, especially the bit about the humanities writing papers for others in the humanities to approve so that libraries have to buy and publishers have to produce academic writings that no one reads.
wow!! fantastic!
I think Peterson would have a real shot if he wanted to get elected as prime minister. Great thinker great speaker and so on point.
This was from 2017, not 2008
You are absolutely right. I changed that. Thx :)
welcome.
2008 Jordan Peterson could have probably never guessed where he'd be in 2017!
FANTASTIC... This news needs to be spread like crazy! JBP is a living legend.
JP at his best. These words are as important and relevant today, as when he spoke them.
You are preaching to the choir here Jordan, but please keep preaching, because you do it better than anyone I can readily think of.
As someone with a deep distrust of psychologist like Jung and Freud, and who has been battling organised religion for over four decades, I would normally have been pretty suspicious of you, Prof. However, you speak with an integrity, and a clarity, that impresses the hell out of me - and I don't mind saying also moves me deeply on occasions. Even on issues where I don't entirely agree with you, I have no doubt at all that I am listening to an honest man of principle, who is doing the best he can to cut his own path through the jungle that we all try to navigate.
Please keep cutting that path - there are many lost souls out there who need someone like you to help them find a way out of the thickets.
A philosophical mindset created by jealous failures and non achievers, seething with resentment that they are not in control.
Amazing !!!
Great talk
Critical theory is a huge foundation in postmodernism.
When i was university student, our lecturer describe us critical thinking. It is some kind of reading reading under words and actions. But, sometimes i see one bullshit: some students do not listen lectures, she say what they do is showing that lectures are useless. It is bs. They are at top class university and it is very high in difficulty. They try to find a way to cope with their stress... They submit their homeworks for same class, they study hard.
Postmodernists try to read all the events in the world, but read it the way it fit to their narrative. But, it is the opposite. for example, I am very calm person, but i get angry when people want demanding tasks when i am sick. Not that i do not love or care them. The beliefs must be validated by real life evidences, not by our thinking...
My god is he right
wow that was awesome thanks Dr.
This was very refreshing to hear.
Peterson is awake and understands what's going on especially in academia.
If we had 10% of politicians, educators and the media like him I think the tide could start rolling back because I feel society is heading towards disaster and destruction.
I'm in two minds. Peterson's (correct) critique of postmodernism does not lead us inevitably to his brand of social and economic conservatism. "Classical" socialists, indeed Marxists, have as much reason to be resistant to "postmodernists": indeed more so, since they build their ideology on a flagrant distortion of our ideals.
petre Tepner I’m not sure you know what you’re talking about.
I don't think Peterson is a social conservative in the sense of the American (mostly evangelical Christian) social conservatives. He is far more of a classic liberal-democrat.
Exactly. The one thing any even moderately sane or self aware political viewpoint can agree on with any other is that no one should be allowed to silence everyone else.
Wooohhoow! Well delivered, Jordan Peterson! So morally uplifting to hear the truth! Agree on all point, and the course of action!
Excellent!
Freudian slip at 8:50
:-D I don't think it's an original "Freudian slip", but it's a good one, though :-D it's rather a rant pc slip, he was ready to say "fuck them", but that's too drastic, would be too disturbing. I don't think it would have been meant in a whatsoever sexual context, but rather in a disgusted-aggressive and intentionally offensive way... :-) It's visible how he really hates them... :-) he really tends to lose his shit when it comes to child abuse, just check the lectures...
I thought he wanted to say "As young as they can find them" since it's synonymous to "get their hands on".
Flowzen Yeah I thought that was obvious.
As young as they can find them
Tom protip: saying fuck them doesnt always men you wanna fuck
I would actually like to hear from a leftist / postmodernist because it strikes me that Jordan Peterson unloads so much knowledge, the cognitive dissonance has to be absolutely overwhelming not to mention terrifying. To embrace postmodernism after seeing it so thoroughly deconstructed has to be an impossible task. No serious person can take PM or Marxism seriously
Just be careful that you know what you believe.
The facts are against them, and yet they chose that path and learn to decieve.
The truths you see from JP....a smart leftist that can even approach these topics knows the logic, and ways to twist it. You have to be very smart to expose their contradictions...and afterwards may feel the need to take the time to do so. It can mess with your head but helps you learn more too.
Great speech from a great man, he talks with conviction a no fear to retaliation, thats exactly what we need, the people need to stop apologizing, embrace what they belive and struggle for it because that is what the other side is doing.
Salutes from chile, great channel by the way
Just finished the book. It clears a lot of things up.
This guy hit the nail on the head when it comes to post-modernism! I wish there were more professors like Dr. Peterson. The left has truly contaminated our university's with this post-modernism crap.
Love this. Now I understand the Antifa lunatics better. At 5:45, make sure you refer to our system as "liberal democracy and free enterprise capitalism", don't say "corporate democracy", since that sounds like corporatism or crony capitalism, a type of socialism that consistently fails us. At 6:00 I think you mean "equality of outcome" and Marxism lead to bloody failure, not "Equity". Equity is a fundamental principal of property rights and free enterprise capitalism, and serves us well. At 10:00 you say that Freedom of Speech is good, and it certainly is. But you also say there is something wrong with rights. However Freedom of Speech is a Right. Rights limit the power of government. The left isn't "selling them rights", it's oppressing rights. The left is selling Entitlements and Equality of Outcome, both of which generally infringe upon the rights of individuals. Despite these semantic issues, spot on Dr. Peterson!
Wow!! I like this man!!
Great explanation as to the manifestation of liberation pedagogy and theology - excellent presentation!
LOL your channel is called "philosophyinsights" when are you going to quit posting sophistry and start posting Spinoza
I have very little interest in conservatism. God and opposing gay marriage don't really float my boat, but I found myself agreeing with plenty of what he said. He's quite right that on many issues classical liberals and conservatives have common ground. The lack of appreciation for the incredible bounties of Western civilisation that I see exhibited by so many on the Left is apalling.
Muel 1989
I'm gay and Peterson is right on target. Personally, I will never vote Democrat until it is reformed from this identity politics. I rather live in a Christian society, which was the first to end slavery, given women the right to own property and vote, and given gays the right to marry.
Muel 1989 Guess what, you don't have to religious or be anti gay marriage to be a conservative!
the idea that atheists can't be conservative in the US is largely due to the influence of religion in republican politics and how they push it through legislature
Today we see European conservatism manifesting itself into Nationalist Democratic parties that will spearhead the kind of sentiment that Dr. Peterson expressed. And they get larger in parliament every election.
The US will not have this luxury. But the problems aren't liberalism and conservatism itself. The problems are the parties that allegedly call themselves that. The two behemoths of the US represent too many contradicting viewpoints. There's Socialists and Liberals together in a single party. There's Libertarians and Christians together in a single party. Hillary was the nominee for the people that wanted to vote against more war and for less racial tensions, neither of which are reflective of her career. And Trump was the nominee for the people that keep their heart close to god. I don't even need to explain why that's a problem.
Can you imagine the resentment among the American people at the poor nature of the choice? It's like the parties are mocking the people and democracy as a whole. They need to be reformed, and a genuine parliament with universal representation and parties that do not contradict themselves so massively should be installed. That is, if the American people even want democracy to prevail.
Conservatives were only behind the left in supporting gay marriage by a few years - when Obama ran in 2012, he was not openly in favor of gay marriage. In 2016, Trump spoke at the RNC about the importance of protecting gay rights and freedoms and got a 30 second standing ovation. The view of conservatives you have been sold by the left-wing media is not an accurate one.
This is pure gold.
Like usual...nailed it
Peterson fails to acknowledge the huge impact of the American labor movement in the development of the middle-class.
life is simple
food shelter
clothing
people are the problem
Post modernism is the art of giving a philosophical veneer to the art of rabble-rousing, and thereby claiming that rabble-rousing itself is not the means, but the end.
God bless you Dr. Peterson!
Ian Wallace Amen.
Grow the beard back
whatever
I think that's the joke
The way he has CALLED all of this is amazing. NEVER apologize for being white. NEVER apologize for your parents working hard to provide for you. NEVER.
Wow! Spot on...God bless this man!
