I definitely concur with the NJ commenter. Large metropolitan areas are in serious tail spins. Visited multiple times 2020-2022 and purchased in 2023 and have had ZERO regrets. Crime is taken VERY seriously with accountability at its core. As the saying goes, the police “always get their man”. I feel 1000x safer here than I did in far north suburban Chicagoland. No multiple repeat “justice impacted individuals” (Ref. Illinois) running rampant laughing at no cash bail programs that are failing innocent citizens. Maybe missing some more common restaurants (Chick Fil-A, MOD Pizza, etc.) but many fantastic small businesses run by hardworking and friendly people. And the beauty of the Black Hills can never be overstated. Simply stated, life is just far better in the Black Hills.

More local business is better. Not chic fila or costco, bc when they leave, they take their business with them and dont really care about the communities they abandon.
Rapid needs more and more small businesses!

Love this comment! We do have so many amazing locally owned small businesses...all over the Black Hills. I'm all for more and more local love. ❤️

I really liked Rapid City. The scenery was amazing and the people were friendly and polite.
I do concur with the person on the video that said the roads are rough. I took the back road from Rapid City to Badlands and man that was rough. But that’s ok. I will trade all that for freedom. South Dakota is a great state.

Rapid City was on my short list of places to possibly move to in a few years but I had to drop it for one reason that nobody can do anything about - weather. It's a bit to wild for me: heavy snow/wind and occasional damaging hail storms. I just don't want to deal with that. Otherwise seemed like just the kind of place I was looking for: medium size city that's moderately isolated from the rest of the insane US. That and no Costco 😆

That Costco thing is killing us 🤣. The weather here is no joke! At least it keeps us on our toes! When it's nice though, it's really wonderful!

Awesome video. Everyone on the east side of the state mentions how they LOVE visiting the Hills but wouldn't live there because it is too conservative and the public school are horrible. We're looking to move that direction after passing through a couple times last month and have started to research apartments and places to work. Hopefully we can make it happen this summer and if not this year then next year for sure.

I used to live not far from Sioux Falls. I'll take the Black Hills any day. haha
