And this is just part 1! Got a bunch more to cover. There is a decent herd of Elk, but you don't see them too often. Deer and turkeys are the most common wild animal you'll see. No wolves that I am aware of but mountain lions are around. Apparently there is a bear running around but I haven't heard of a sighting recently. I'm never too worried about any of these hiking - biggest thing to watch out for is rattlesnakes.
I'd love to help you if Rapid City is the place for you! My son has allergies (to like everything trees and grass) and he definitely has some issues mostly in the spring/summer. We don't have pollen as bad as the southern states, but plenty of cottonwood trees, grass and farm land, etc. They are out there, I don't know on how bad/good vs other areas.
