Most Europeans speak better English than a lot of Americans. The German established nursing home my father was in had a practice of inviting German nursing students to work here in the US. When I spoke with one of these nurses, I was taken aback at her command of the English language.

My late, ex mother in law would always feel if the radiator was warm, and if it wasn’t, which meant it was an acceptable room temperature, she would turn up the heat, even though everyone protested it was warm enough/too warm already.
