Haggis being in Fontaine, specifically the coupon cafeteria, is funny because it means they canonically make British food in French prisons as a form of punishment
Because Fontaine is confirmed to not just be just inspired by France(it mostly is tho) but also Britain and Italy? I think it was Europe as far as my research as gone. I thought it was originally just France until I actually researched. And it makes sense now why I relate so hard to Wriothesley…. Because he is the epitome of British👁️
yeah its pretty clear that the fortress is based on industrializing Britain@@hi5the31s3
@@hi5the31s3 they do this to make different areas feel different from eachother while still being within the same nation, they do this in some spots in mondstadt and the chasm has some mongolian influences alongside chinese
@@hi5the31s3Both Mondstadt and Fontaine are mixtures of (mostly) western Europe but Mondstadt being more medieval and Fontaine 18th century-ish. And yes, I thought Wriothesley was definitely an honorary Brit not just because of his name but his tea drinking habit - how many times did he mention tea during his scenes with Clorinde? 😂
I'm sorry for disappointing you but I remember it was in the stream of version 4.1 or 4.2 but they already said that Fontaine is a fusion of cultures like France, the United Kingdom and Italy.
So it's normal to see something else apart from France lol.

Fontaine is based on Belle Epoque Europe not just France. Calm down kiddo.
Hey I'm also Belgian! Js from flanders
@@CircusFoxxo Does Belle époque include Britain?
@@LittleSparklingStarsif im not mistaken it does
@@LittleSparklingStars Belle Epoqué is ~1880-1920ish.
Fontaine is predominantly based on France because Paris was the center of western European civilization in that period, following the reforms implemented under Napoleon III.
It's still relevant to also include neighbor cultures that influence or were influenced by the primary one they're using for the region, especially as far as they influence the story/mythology backbone that you use for the region. For example, Paimon's silly glasses and the whole locked room murder of Lyney's trial is a reference to Poirot, who was a Belgian detective written by an English woman.

i know. it does not even matter that i cant understand it without those subtitles.

The way bro said: C'est caca poopoo! 💀
Fontaine is also inspired by British and Italian. The fortress is just like England and many of Navia's men are Italian.
yeah. the developers know that fish and chips is obviously not french but its a region thats a mix of 18th/19th century european cultures
@@aorusakifrench alone simply wouldnt cut it. Glad they added britian and italy in there. Made fountain really amazing.

See, the problem is that, despite what people think, most of the regions are not just based on one country. Sure much of Fontaine is based on France, but we also have to remember that they also based a lot of the architecture on Venice (confirmed by interviews with the devs,) and clearly England had an influence on the region as well. Inazuma and Liyue are the only two we can reasonably say had only one influence
Tsurumi Watatsumi Enkanomiya and the Chasm rn: 🗿🗿🗿🗿
Judging by terms like "pneuma" and "ousia" and some of the ruins, I think we have Greece in there too.
Fontaine is primarily French inspired, but had English and Italian mixed into it.
It's more Belle Epoque Europe than just France.
Yeah, I agree. It’s all the iconic European countries
@@thepinkelephant2520Except Germany and Poland. Those went to Mondstadt instead.
@@hanbeitakenakasama7735 True, true, but those were already taken so I discounted them from Fontaine
I feel like Hoyo just ran out of actually appetizing French food almost immediately and had to resort to France's neighbors. Br*tish food and the lack of croissants is still unacceptable though.
Fontaine is more Belle Epoque Europe than just France. Wriothesly is named after a British guy and the Alps appear.
@@CircusFoxxo I'm pretty sure Dragonspine is the Alps but ok
@@CircusFoxxoHe also boxes English style, I’m pretty sure.
@@CircusFoxxo
You’re right, Fontaine is mostly inspired by France but also has some British, Italian, and Spanish inspiration. France is definitely the main one though
@@frostyvoid827Dragonspine is based on Matterhorn, which is, yes, a mountain on the Alps, but one that borders Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. The Alps is a long mountain range after all.

Actually I think this way of preparing ribs at 6:41 (especially lamb) is french, but it's not called Barbeque that's for sure ^^°
Also the word "barbecue" used as is in french is believed to be taken from english language, but the word was initially taken from a french expression called "barbe au cul" (from beard to ass) which designed the way the pork would be impaled for roasting.

Pure water is a recipe from a quest where this dude tries to make a potion out of lumine''s bathwater so it could be considered a quest item
Okay, hear me out. He said he’s not French, right? My theory is he grew up in a French speaking country. Why else would he be so fluent and his accent be so perfect? So my guess he was raised bilingual (English and French.) I mean he speaks English as well as he speaks French.
So here is my theory: he grew up in either Switzerland or France. I think France is more likely, because he said „soixante-dix-sept“ instead of „septon-sept“ which is the way the Swiss would say it. From the discord server, we know that he’s from Europe.
I mean it could also be that I’m completely wrong 😭
(DONT ASK HOW LONG I SPENT DEVELOPING THIS IDEA)
i agree with you! his little accent sound english to me

Does anyone wanna tell him that Fontaine is not only based on France but also on other countries such as Italy, UK, and possibly even more? Kinda like how Sumeru isn’t only based on India and has inspiration from basically all of the Middle East and Northern Africa.
Sumeru is 0% India. It's based on the Persian Empire, which at its height stretched from Egypt to the Balkans north-south and the Levant to Pakistan east-west. Nahida is named after Anahit, a deity from Zoroastrianism, which was a folk religion of ancient Persia.
The "mythology" layer that they mix into the depictions of the regions is also based on Chinese tales of the West, specifically those beyond India. The legendary Mount Sumeru is the western edge of the holy mountain chain in Buddhist/Hindu mythology.
But Fontaine is indeed based on regions that were under French administration during the 1800s, or were part of France during its height, as well as the general time period between the reign of Napoleon III and WWI, when it seemed like France might end up ruling the world and Paris was the center of Western civilization.
