These women use to be called 2 Tons of Fun!
Great song that shows off the powerhouse vocals of the legendary Martha Wash. She's the lighter skinned woman whose voice you were impressed with. She's been on some very popular songs in the 70's, 80's and 90's. Unfortunately, she wasn't always credited for her work. It's a long story but she had to sue to get her credit and, thankfully, she did in the end.
These ladies were always fun to watch.
Martha Walsh, the lighter skinned one, was the voice behind C & C Music Factory hit songs, including their smash hit, "Gonna Make You Sweat"
RIP to her Weather Girls partner, Izora Armstead
ROTFLMAO!!! thank u Sheray for the most authentically hysterical reaction of the week! 🔥 💯
This was EPIC!
❤🎉😅'HALLELUJAH' !!!
❤
CLASSIC
*****Years ago, this DUO was known as "2 TONS of FUN, but changed Their Name.
A very wet, wet, wet, wet reaction ☔! Martha Walsh is the light skin singer. Izora Armstead is the brown skin singer. Martha Walsh sang on the C&C Music Factory song: "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)", that you reacted to before. It's Raining Men was released as the lead single from The Weather Girls' 1983 album: Success. It was written by Paul Jabara and Paul Shaffer. The song was produced by Paul Jabara and Bob Esty. The song reached #1 on the Dance Club chart, #34 on the R&B chart and #46 on the Hot 100. The song also peaked in the Top 10 in the UK (#2), Ireland (#5) and Norway (#8).
The music video was directed by Gary Keys and was filmed in an abandoned building in New York City due to a low music video production budget provided by the record company: Columbia Records. It didn't get played on MTV (as they resisted songs by black artists), but was very popular in Europe and has attracted tens of millions of views on CZcams. The music video was not a pleasant experience for Izora Armstead and Martha Wash, who recall falling onto mattresses during the filming that were infested with bed bugs leaving them itching days after the video shoot.
The song has been covered by other artists including 📻: Geri Halliwell, Eldissa, Young Divas, Toni Lo, Marcia Hines, K2 Groove, Ii Simmons, Mila Jam, Sylvie Vartan, Helena Vondráčková, The Nolans Bảo Hân and Hồ Lệ Thu, Jenny Mac Kay and Barbara Scaff, and more.

The song has been featured in some TV shows including 📺: Claws ("Vaginalologist" - 2018), Goode Behavior ("You Could Discover Me" - 2017), Schitt's Creek ( "Jazzagals" and "Lawn Signs" - 2016), Lip Sync Battle ("Abbi Jacobson vs Ilana Glazer" - 2015), The Simpsons ("What to Expect When Bart's Expecting" - 2014), Being Erica ("Moving On Up" - 2010), Samantha Who? Lyrics 🗒:
Hi, hi we're your weather girls
Ah-huh
And have we got news for you
You better listen
Get ready, all you lonely girls
And leave those umbrellas at home
Alright
Humidity is rising (uh rising), barometer's getting low (how low girl?)
According to all sources (what sources now?), the street's the place to go (we better hurry up)
'Cause tonight for the first time (first time)
Just about half-past ten (half past ten)
For the first time in history
It's gonna start raining men (start raining men)
It's raining men, hallelujah, it's raining men, amen
I'm gonna go out to run and let myself get
Absolutely soaking wet
It's raining men, hallelujah
It's raining men, every specimen
Tall, blonde, dark and lean
Rough and tough and strong and mean
God bless mother nature, she's a single woman too
She took off to heaven and she did what she had to do
She taught every angel, she rearranged the sky
So that each and every woman could find her perfect guy
Oh, it's raining men, yeah
Humidity is rising (humidity is rising, yeah yeah)
Barometer's getting low (it's getting low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low)
According to all sources (according to all sources)
The street's the place to go
'Cause tonight for the first time
Just about half past ten
For the first time in history
It's gonna start raining man (start raining men)
It's raining men, hallelujah
It's raining men, amen
It's raining men, hallelujah
It's raining men, amen
It's raining men, hallelujah
It's raining men, amen
It's raining men, hallelujah
Oh oh oh oh
It's raining men
Tall, blonde, dark and lean
Rough and tough and strong and mean
Hallelujah it's raining men, amen
The Weather Girls Info 📰:
The Weather Girls are a female vocal duo whose best known group line-up was comprised of Martha Wash and Izora Rhodes (Armstead). As The Weather Girls, Martha Wash and Izora Armstead received a Grammy Award nomination for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal ("It's Raining Men") in 1983.
Izora Rhodes (Armstead) and Martha Wash met at a young age. Martha Wash attended Church Of God In Christ, which was an alley away from the Baptist church that Izora Rhodes was attending. Izora Rhodes was the lead vocalist and pianist of the San Francisco Inspirational Choir. Martha Wash and Izora Rhodes eventually landed in a Gospel group called N.O.W. (News Of The World). While performing part-time in the group, Martha Wash worked as a secretary for UC Hospital while Izora Rhodes worked as a bartender and a nurse assistant. Izora Rhodes also worked as a piano and vocal teacher.
In 1976, they formed their vocal group in San Francisco, California as they began their musical careers under the group moniker: Two Tons O' Fun. The female backup duo soon after became backup singers for Disco singer Sylvester. After a few years of singing background vocals for Sylvester, the duo was signed in 1979 to Fantasy Records as Two Tons O' Fun. Their first two singles: "Earth Can Be Just Like Heaven" (#2 Dance), "I Got The Feeling" (#2 Dance, #29 R&B), charted well. They released two albums on Fantasy Records in 1980 titled: Two Tons O' Fun (#91 Billboard 200 Album chart, #28 Billboard R&B Album chart) and Backatcha.
The duo subsequently changed their name to The Weather Girls and signed a record deal with Columbia Records in 1982. They were launched into somewhat more mainstream recognition following the release of the single: "It's Raining Men" (1982), which became their first #1 song on the Dance Chart and their biggest music chart song overall as a group. It also reached #34 on the R&B chart and #46 on the Hot 100. The song also peaked in the Top 10 in the UK (#2), Ireland (#5) and Norway (#8). The Weather Girls would release three albums for Columbia Records: Success (1983), Big Girls Don't Cry (1985) and Weather Girls (1988), but couldn't recapture their previous success. Their best charting single: "No One Can Love You More Than Me" (1985), peaked at #26 on the Dance chart. The group soon disbanded in late 1988.
Martha Walsh worked as a studio session vocalist and had some major music industry success while Izora Armstead continued to perform The Weather Gril songs as a solo artist.
In 1991, Izora Armstead reformed the duo with her daughter Dynelle Rhodes. Over the course of a decade, the Izora Armstead and Dynelle Rhodes released three albums: Double Tons Of Fun (1993), Think Big!, and Puttin' On the Hits (1999), the latter being a cover song album. Their 1993 single: "Can You Feel It", reached #2 on the Dance Club chart.
In 1993, Martha Walsh released her solo debut album: Martha Walsh, which produced the charting singles: "Carry On" (#1 Dance, #97 R&B), "Give It To You" (#1 Dance, #48 R&B, #90 Pop) and "Runaround" (#10 Dance).
In 1998, Martha Walsh released the single: "It's Raining Men...The Sequel" ft RuPaul, which peaked at #22 on the Dance Club chart. She also reached the music chart with her singles: "Catch The Light" (#1 Dance) and "Come" (#4 Dance).
In 2004, Izora Armstead passed away and was replaced with singer Ingrid Arthur in 2005. Following the release of two albums: Totally Wild! (2005) and The Woman I Am (2009), Ingrid Arthur left the group and was replaced with singer Dorrey Lin Lyles in 2012.
In 2004, Martha Wash, launched her own independent recording label called Purple Rose Records. The first release by the record label was the Martha Walsh single: "You Lift Me Up" (#5 Dance), in September 2004. Martha Wash's second solo album: Something Good, was the record label's first album released in January 2013. The album produced the charting single: "I'm Not Coming Down" (#2 Dance). The record label has continued to distribute all of Martha Wash's official releases to date.
