    Wished I'd had this tutorial (and the harness!) in Nov. 2018 when I had bought the first Vespa in my life und also wanted an USB port outside the glovebox because without any cable bushing the original USB port in the glovebox is useless for charging a smartphone while it's being used on the handlebar for nagvigation. What did those Vespa engineers smoke when they decided to hide away their USB port??? 🤦‍♂
    Finally, I installed the new port at the same place as you did here in the video, but with no idea at all how my new GTS was constructed I spent quite a while to disassemble everything (thanks to your tutorials, Robot! 🤩) and find a good spot for the new USB port. Glad to see that my decission was not too bad... 😁

    My Vespa is a red 2023 300 Super
    Turns out, I didn't need the little plug, although I bought one.
    I simply made the large hole in the knee pad a tight fit for the USB and added a drop of CA to the joint and let it dry thoroughly before final reassembly.
    I did not use the black plastic nut either but saved it just in case.
    So the USB is only attached to the knee pad, not the coloured plastic.
    When in use, unplugging the USB wires, I simply hold the knee pad against the scooter with one hand while the other hand pulls the plug out so as not to put any pressure on the joint.
    If that joint should fail in the future, well I do still have the little black plug and I will drill the required hole in the knee pad, and use the black plastic nut and plug that I saved..

    Another great video and great idea. I have heated grips and vespa muffs.
    However as I do deliveries the heated grips have not lasted a full year.
    Having clip on heated grips could be a good solution as very easy to replace!!!

    Great idea. For the clip-on grips, on a '21 70th anniversary 150, could you not use the existing USB outlet in the glove box?

    Good mod, but a buyer shouldn't have to install what already be installed in the scooter.
    Not surprised that the HP 2-Difficult was harder to work on.

    What would you recommend for wind deflectors for the grips? Would need to NOT be mounted to bar ends due to security chain.

    Robot, is there not enough room to just make the first hole (in the orange part) a little larger(so the retainer nut slips through it) then just mount the USB to the knee pad making it easier to put that inside screw back without an additional hole?

      I'd like to know the answer too! Seems like a better option then having to put a plug in the extra small hole in the "kneepad".

    • @JDMz
      @JDMz Před rokem +2

      If you aren't comfortable doing then I'd suggest not doing it. Take it to a mechanic. Otherwise you undo the carb. Remove it from the manifold. Also loosen the throttle cable from the carb. Take all pipes off. Take a picture of where they go before removing them. Then you undo the float bowl at the bottom (it'll have petrol inside it) then undo the main jet and all other jets. Remove the float and needle with extra care. Thoroughly clean jets with brake cleaner. The needle and float. Then give the hole carb a good clean over. Dry all Thoroughly ideally with compresses air. Then fit back as you found them. Make sure everything is back together properly. Then install it back with new seals. Mount the carb back on the inlet manifold carefully. Also check manifold for any cracks. As that will force air in the engine. If the inlet manifold looks good. Fit carb back on. Fit the the throttle cable back on. Make sure everything is tight. Put fuel and air hoses back on. Once everything is back on. Re fill with fresh petrol. Start the scooter and let it idle for a few minutes. Check for fuel leaks and air leaks. To look for air leaks. Get a sprayer bottle fill it up with water and some soap. Spray on the hoses. If you see bubbles. Shut the bike off and then replace any hoses that bubble. If there's no bubbles. Then you won't have air leaks. Once idling. Take the scooter for a good run. When warm give it full throttle. If it bogs down then you haven't put the needle in correctly or in its correct setting. If the scooter doesn't bog down all through the rev range then things have been done correctly.

    How to rape such a beautiful new scooter like that! It breaks my heart how the glove box was scratched off or the holes were drilled without a vacuum so the shavings were all over the place!

    Very bad job. Why is that cable long? Stupid engineers building Vespa. You just need to put a usb kit next to the mirror and take the cable through the mirror to the handlebar. It can't be such a silly thing. And unfortunately I also use Vespa. Plug the usb port next to the mirror and a short cable is enough for the phone holder.

    • @kevinwhitmill2599
      @kevinwhitmill2599 Před rokem

      For the heated grips it's a pity the cables aren't the coiled type. I use a short coiled cable to link my mirror stem mounted phone to my self installed usb port (as in this vid). The coiled cable keeps things tidy but will easily stretch enough to allow for movement of the handlebars.
