Fujifilm X-A1 - old and small but very capable!

  • Fujifilm X-A1 is the smallest and oldest of my Fuji X-mount series cameras. Yet it gets most use from me because it is so small and convenient to use. In this video I review Fujifilm X-A1 and talk about its pros and cons. Should you still buy this camera in 2024? You will hear my opinion about the photo quality and some typical camera settings of the Fuji X-A1. I will also show you sample photos of the X-A1 and compare it with the other cameras of the X-A series (X-A2,X-A3, X-A5, X-A7, X-A19, X-A20). While The X-A1 is great and recommended it does not come without flaws. It has no viewfinder or electronic shutter and the video quality of Fuji X-A1 is not up to today’s standards. Despite this I love my Fuji X-A1.

Nice review, thanks! I couldn't agree more with you on this one. I own the A-A1 also, and the image quality is soooooo much better than those smart phone camera's out there. Besides, I'm a photography nerd, I just can't resist the retro look with my 18mm pan cake lens slapped onto the A1. It's my go-to street photography camera, set to B&W by default in all modes. 🙂

Hi! Thank you very much for watching. An A1 with a pancake lens is a great combo, so well suited for street photography. Best of luck to you!

Great video. I also like an 'odd' camera. Xtrans tough, the X-Pro1. Like it more than any new camera and bring it everywhere.
Made a CZcams video about it too.

I had one of these years ago. I loved the size and shape of it, and I liked the pictures it captured. But not having an EVF eventually led me to sell it.

Hi! Sure, no EVF is certainly a problem. Thank you very much for watching!

I sold all of my Fujis with X-Trans (because of it's "Watercolour effect") and enjoy my X-A5 and X-T200.

Hey Tom, Right now have My older X-E1 and 2nd Hand X-T100 almost new. The X-E1 will be used mainly for Family moments and street Photography, I Love It!

I like my X-A1, indeed I bought it after I watched one of your videos. It was super cheap. Then I got an X-A20. The X-A20 has more features: electronic shutter, selfie mode, touchscreen. It has no hot shoe and it’s a bit heavier and bigger than the X-A1. The picture quality is different too, but I can’t say if the X-A20 takes better photos. The colours are slightly different between the two cameras. Another strange difference is that the X-A1 works with the Fringer pro 2 EF-XF adapter when I adapt Canon EF lenses. The AF does work but it is very very slow. But it does work. With the X-A20 it does not work at all. This adapter is not supposed to work with any of the X-As cameras. It’s strange that it works, albeit not well, with the X-A1.

Hi Alberto! Thank you very much for this interesting and valuable information. It's been shown before that earlier camera models are more robust and more versatile. Sometimes they do things they are not supposed to do :). Cheers!

hello tom! i am looking into buying this camera because i found it from a seller for almost nothing, but it's only a body, so i am looking into lenses for this camera. as a beginner i don't know anything about lenses, so could you perhaps recommend good budget friendly lens for X-A1 and a beginner? thank you in advance, and i really liked your video!

Hi! Thank you for asking. Indeed I can recommend good lenses for this camera. Perhaps my first choice would be the Fuji XC 15-45mm (czcams.com/video/lkGXyrg5DiU/video.html). I also like the version II of Fuji XC 16-50 mm (czcams.com/video/8LhNQfD92jM/video.html). Kind regards!

Can you tell me, if I want to shoot video as well, which is better for me to take fujifilm xe2 or fujifilm xa7?

Hi! If you specifically want video, the X-A7 is the preferred option. Best of luck!
