    Here's some things that Nintendo should've done with Super Mario Maker on 3DS
    -Make it New Nintendo 3DS exclusive
    -Use the New Super Mario Bros 2 theme instead of the New Super Mario Bros U one
    -Amiibo compatibility
    -Online sharing
    -Mystery Mushrooms
    and
    -Crossplaying any level from the Wii U version and 3DS Version

      @NintendoThumb Před 7 lety +3

      New Super Mario Bros. 2 and New Super Mario Bros. U don't have the same physics, so you couldn't play any of the Wii U levels made in that style because it could break the level so it's unbeatable. Wii and U both have that extra little jerk you can do in the air, and lots of levels take advantage of that requiring it for long jumps, 3-block height ground pound, etc.

      C Films While I agree with, well, everything on this list, of they removed the NSMBU theme, the already limited course selection would shrink even more, as you wouldn't be able to use any of the courses involving that theme.
      Yeah, I know I sound stupid, but it would be wierd for them to make NSMB2 into some wierd copy of NSMBU or something like that.

      Yes, I just might pass on this version and just wait for a Nintendo Switch version. This is because there's no point for me to get a Nintendo Wii U right now - now that a much better Nintendo video game system (the Nintendo Switch) is coming out in March of next year, and that several Nintendo Wii U video games that I like there (i.e. Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo Wii U, and Super Mario Maker) are getting enhanced ports to the Nintendo Switch at various times next year. :/

  • @Sompursone
    @Sompursone Před 7 lety +21

    Good review, Andre. Good... but you yourself didn't take a look at it in the light Nintendo made it in: specifically, the fading light of the Wii U.
    Nintendo made amazing games for the Wii U, but due to the fact that the Wii U didn't sell that well, Nintendo decided to port over their best content from the Wii U to their systems that sold well, the 3DS family. We already saw it with Hyrule Warriors Legends, we'll be seeing it in February with Poochi and Yoshi's Woolly World (pardon me if that title is wrong, I don't remember it off the top of my head), and right now, with Mario Maker 3DS, we're seeing it again.
    Now that I have addressed that for you, let's dive into why I'm writing this: as a person who has a 3DS but does not have access to a Wii U, I would like to share my own review, based on what you have told us of this version here.
    I can most definitely agree with you; the Wii U version is superior. However, let's think about this from the perspective of someone who has not experienced the Wii U version. You have millions of levels created by others that you can play online (and offline if you download them, a feature you forgot to mention in the review). You have a Mario level creator that gives you access to all the common elements of Mario, as well as 4 of the biggest Mario games (including one that technically has never been seen before on handhelds). Sure, the game would have been better with the ability to search for levels, but hey, maybe if we complain enough, Nintendo will actually listen to us and at least add in the bookmark website support. Sure, the game would have been better with the mystery mushroom costumes, but they were an extra feature, not an overall requirement. The Wii U version was, as said in many reviews, "more than we asked for" in a good way. This 3DS port is around what we had been asking for before we got the Wii U version.
    I
    So yes, when compared to the Wii U version, the 3DS version is like Luigi, living in it's older brother's shadow. However, think about it in the perspective of Luigi's Mansion, where Mario is missing (Wii U is dying), and you can forget your worries, because this version is here to make sure that Mario Maker isn't forgotten by the majority of the Nintendo fan base (the 3DS only people). Thank you for your time.

      @Sompursone Před 7 lety

      P.S. quick question, can you go to the home menu while playing a online course? If so, you CAN post to Miiverse while playing a course, meaning that at least that aspect of the community is still here. If not, then that truly is lost.

    • @eclecticmuso
      @eclecticmuso Před 7 lety +8

      Still he has a right to call them out on their bullshit when they fuck up, and this game is most certainly a fuck up. I mean we can't give Nintendo a free pass when they put out rushed, inferior, "cash-grab" ports, when that's the business practices we criticise other gaming companies for.

    • @Graphomite
      @Graphomite Před 7 lety +7

      Reviewing the appeal of a video game does not and should not require rationalizing the company's marketing agenda. Andre is providing us the information we as consumers should know to make our decision with our money, not why we should sympathize with Nintendo's decision.

    • @eclecticmuso
      @eclecticmuso Před 7 lety +3

      Yeah the aim of a review should be to be as objective as possible and look at the product as a standalone entity, and assess it's merits as well as it's faults.

    • @Sompursone
      @Sompursone Před 7 lety +3

      eclecticmuso It also assumes that we have every Nintendo system ever. Tell me, Graphomite, which of these two options better, buying a single, $40 version of a game with a few feature missing, most of which are unimportant, or buying a $300 console and the same game, but with those features added back in, for $60? For me, as long as the core of the game is still intact, it doesn't matter how many features they remove, it would still be a much better deal than buying a whole other console to play the game. As I had said in the main review, this was looking at it through the eyes of someone who ONLY has a 3DS. If I had both systems, I would by the Wii U version over the 3DS port. With all that being said, eclecticmuso, your first comment is one that I can agree with. This is mostly just a cash-grab. However, again, as a person that only has a 3DS, this game is amazing. It does not excuse the fact that it is a cash-grab, it just balances it out a little bit more. I mean, they ported over a game that had never been portable before (sort of, the game is New Super Mario Bros. U, sooo...).

    hey I need some opinions here. So, I was very excited to get this game for Christmas but I live in Brazil,and I don't know if you know that Nintendo left Brazil last year. So we don't find any Nintendo games here in any stores, so to get a Nintendo game it'll be a little expensive though. But I need an opinion, I only have a Nintendo 3ds,but without Internet sharing and sharing my levels only with streetpass, and few people have a 3ds here, should I get this for Christmas or not?

      Cara, eu não sei se você já comprou esse jogo ou não, mas eu não compraria. Quando ele foi anunciado eu também fiquei com vontade de jogá-lo, pois sempre quis jogar o Super Mario Maker de Wii U, mas também não tenho um Wii U, e sim só um 3ds. Sem as funcionalidades online, que são exclusivas da versão de Wii U, esse jogo torna-se péssimo. Você não vai encontrar ninguém através de streetpass, não só por pouca gente ter um 3ds e esse jogo por aqui, mas também porque aqueles que os têm não sairão de casa com o 3ds (no meu caso, é por medo de ser roubado). Assim, você não vai conseguir compartilhar seus estágios com ninguém e também não vai conseguir buscar estágios online para baixar e jogar, já que essa opção não existe (no meu caso, era exatamente para isso que eu compraria o jogo, já que não me importo muito em criar estágios). Eu acho melhor esperar para ver se eles vão lançar uma atualização adicionando todas essas funcionalidades, o que eu duvido muito que aconteça, já que estão tendo boatos que eles vão lançar uma nova versão para o Switch, então acho difícil eles gastarem tempo e dinheiro se focando no 3ds. Não sei qual será sua decisão, mas eu não gastaria dinheiro apoiando uma empresa que não só está cagando para o Brasil, mas também só pensa pequeno e só se foca no mercado japonês, que é onde o streetpass mais funciona. Tenho lido até relatos de pessoas que moram nos EUA e reclamam que também não encontram ninguém através do streetpass, então imagina a situação aqui no Brasil.

    So I've been playing this on my New Nintendo 3DS XL and I have to say the graphics look really crisp besides the new super Mario bros. theme and honestly that theme doesn't look as bad on an actual 3DS compared to CZcams videos. I will say it's kind of annoying that the ZL/ZR buttons are not utilized on the New 3DS for course creation shortcuts. Also the special effects that pop up randomly are still 30fps on New 3DS but the actual gameplay has been a smooth 60fps so far. I've been having a lot of fun playing Super Mario Challenge and getting all the medal challenges, some of those are really damn hard! If Nintendo can release patches to add online course sharing and other missing features that would be awesome.

    Also, "only StreetPass"? "Impossible to post your levels online"? We'll see what the homebrew community has to say about that...
    Or even Nintendo themself via an update.
    And no, people, there is no *technical* reason why online level sharing is missing, among other online features! Stop claiming that the lacking specs of the 3DS are the reason for why you cannot upload, search or rate levels! Otherwise the eShop wouldn't exist!

    • @NintendoThumb

    I agree this game has a couple flaws with sharing, but there are so many people that are gonna get this game that you will get plenty of their levels when driving around, and they can play yours. Other than that you can play SO many Wii U levels. The "no search bar" does suck, but with updates enabled on the 3DS I just KNOW they will fix this error. They wated to save time porting the game for the 3DS so they can ship it out before christmas. This is the solely reason why. If they just dish a patch out at some point after everyone bought their copy, they are still good.
      It's just that they want to get the most money out of the port so leaving out features just for the sake of getting the game out earlier, is a non-brainer for a giant company.

      It was though. No online sharing, no choosing specific courses which were the main features of the wii u version; he gave it a meh. Not trying to rain on your parade but he gave it a negative review.

    A: I can rarely use the online stuff on the Wii U version anyway, B: I am band from consoles on school nights C: From what I heard, challenge mode is just a better version of 10 Mario Challenge. D: I didn't use the mystery mushrooms a lot (even though they are the only reason I play 100 Mario Challenge). E: You don't have to look a the smaller screen all time when making a level. My only problem is that they didn't a New Super Mario Bros. 2 theme with the other 4.

    Who's here after Super Mario Maker 2 for the switch was announced? Finally a better version of Mario Maker than the Wii U's version and also it is even a sequel which is even better. It literally killed the last reason to buy a Wii U.

    THis sounds like one of the worst ports ever. Ignoring the dropped visual appeal, it also loses all the key features that amde Mario Maker good to begin with. This is up there with like Sonic GBA for bad ports

      Just Ryan Sorry this isn't exactly the Wii U version, yes no online sharing has no excuse, but I think this is a pretty good port. It has a lot from the Wii U version, the course maker is exactly the same as the Wii U. And comparing this game to SONIC GBA (one of the worst games in existence) is an extreme stretch. Don't even complain about the graphics, this is the 3DS.

      I'm not really complaining about the graphics, I literally said ignoring that because it's not a big issue

      Just Ryan all I can say is, Nintendo has gotten big on updating games, and they might try buffing up this game as a result. It is always a possibility to add the functions still missing. And since I don't have a Wii U due to lack of funds and production ending, I kinda have to get this one.

    I made hundreds levels on the 3DS and I loved it so much on the 3DS. I never purchased Wii U because of the price and it was a failure. I am trying to port them to the switch and update the levels as well

      Whats the point of making levels when you can't share them.

    I'll still get it since I don't have a WiiU. And maybe one of these days they'll make an update that will allow real online features. Also don't forget, Nintendo is practically pushing all their money on the Switch. So if that's successful and Nintendo starts rolling in dough more than they already are, they might put some money into putting online for SMM on the 3DS.

    The lack of mystery mushrooms was an instant deal breaker for me, so I'm glad to see I'm not missing much else.
