- I was finally able to try out the Sun Shade Awning that was sent to me by OFFROADING GEAR. It blows my other awning out of the water!!! The poles are so much more sturdy and the material is heavy duty! I tried it out on my SUV and it's huge and provides me with so much extra space. I decided to try it on a friend's Promaster and she loved it. This awning is the perfect size for #VANLIFE!
I found that I prefer the awning to be resting on the ground (staked, of course) to provide me with more privacy when I'm in a group setting. When this awning was on the poles standing straight up, I didn't fear the wind taking it away like my other one. The curved hooks keep the awning in place and the strength of the poles held up!

Hey fellow Floridian I just watched u on Jan's channel grea🎉t job, moving, loving memory of you friend, she absolutely would be so proud of you. I've been watching you and Heather for several months and have finally done 2 solo trip in my minivan... most of my neighbors think I'm out of my mind. Camping in a minivan at the age of 71.5 but I have enjoyed my 2 trips although I did get a room in Gainesville because of poor planning after leaving Apalachicola national Park. If you get over near me in PCB send an email I'll treat us to lunch or at least you can charge up the Jackery... Thanks too all you ladies who are encouraging us retired couch potatoes who everyday it's just breathe breathe breathe instead of living an adventure. 🎉

I have a similar awning, different brand name but the same configuration. I too like the awning down when I’ve attached it to my van.
Very cool! I'm hoping it really helps this summer keeping the direct sun off my SUV. I may need to use four of them. lol

No, and I was very disappointed. I did order a set from Amazon and I use them with my smaller awning. They will definitely work with the sun shade awning, too.
Similar to the Kelty backroads, but the Kelty is easier because you don’t have to turn upside down risking to rip the fabric, it also has a full zippered door with window in the back and you can stake the sides closer to the van or SUV for more privacy and rain protection almost like a tent you can attach to the roof rack or the tires with straps, not bungee cords. Not bad though but I’ll stick with the Kelty thanks.👍🏻
That's interesting. This awning did come with one wall, but I just couldn't put it on. And that's the thing, I wish I could try out all the different ones, but being so expensive - I have to rely on word of mouth. I'm fortunate that the company sent me this to try. I really want a big tent to connect to the back of my SUV - someday, maybe.
@@OutonaLimbwithKym oh well is nice of the company to do that. Yeah not cheap I did a lot of research, comments, CZcams etc before I went buying. You probably can try to McGiver something with a tarp to have more privacy and take a shower in it, getting the imagination going to modify things to our needs can be fun and part of camping. Yeah a tarp over secured with stakes can do the trick helping also in heavy rain, get waterproof spray at Walmart, not expensive and you can cook in it all sheltered, if is too hot take the tarp off, enjoy the view and fresh air.
