Progressive Rail's Dan Patch Line -Switching, industrial areas, and a Train Ride-

- Progressive Rail's Dan Patch Line in Minnesota is a true success story! Over two decades of hard work, coupled with great leadership, and customer service, has brought this line back to life! The railroad operates on former MN&S track, uses classic EMD SW1500's, and are even painted in MN&S colors. These locomotives are perfect for negotiating the tight curves, rough track, and the maze of rails in industrial areas the railroad serves.
This video will follow Progressive Rails Dan Patch Line as it goes about its workday. Beginning in Bloomington, we'll see them working a large transload facility. After this, they're seen interchanging at Nesbit with the CPKC before heading towards the northern most part of the line, a cement plant. The line is rich in history, and is alive and well. This is due to the dedicated, and hardworking staff at Progressive Rail!

Thank you. I played in that area of 61st as a kid long ago. I even got to ride along on engine #10 way back then. It was great.
Wonderfull to see another part of the Old MN&S RY. That i'm Modeling. Thanks.
Glad to hear that you enjoyed it! Progressive Rail is a classy, and neat operation, which keeps the memories of the MN&S alive.
Great video, love the switching action. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! This was one of my favorite videos to make, and PGR is a class act!
Excellent video which I enjoyed watching 👍😃😃😃😃🚂🇬🇧
Love the horn on 34. Sounds like a combination of a child’s wooden train whistle and an old Geep horn.
Me too; it sounds very soothing and easy on the ears. Thank you for watching!
Outstanding footage! I love watching operations. What a beauty of a locomotive.
Thank you very much! Progressive Rail has done an AMAZING job with this route, and continues to find creative ways to grow traffic.
Sweet footage and production! Deserves way more views… gained a new sub!
Much appreciated, and great to hear you enjoyed it! :D Please feel free to share it to others; this was one of my favorite videos in recent memory to make.
nice... always like the switching vids
Glad you liked it, and more like this are in the works. Thank you for watching!
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching!
I'm impressed at the amount of traffic on this line compared to what I saw in the early 1990s.
There was a time that SOO was contemplating (supposedly according to the railfans I hung out with at the time) applying for abandonment of the Dan Patch branch.
Also, gotta love the Hancock Air Chime. I loved that sound as a kid watching the MN&S.
What Progressive Rail has done is nothing short of amazing; this line is busy compared to how it was back in the Soo/CP days. What you heard is indeed true; had PGR not stepped in, this line would likely be LONG gone now. Thanks for watching!
Incredible documentation of this line which you show to be the asset it is to Bloomington and Richfield. Great work!
Glad you enjoyed it, and I appreciate the kind words! This was A LOT of fun to shoot, and there were so many places to capture this neat operation. The crew and mgmt at Progressive was amazing to work with too!
Love the whistle on that switcher. Toot toot!
I like how it sounds too; very distinct and unique sounding. Thanks for watching, and the comment!
Love seeing these sw switchers doing there work , switching all the different industries different loads , just great footage... cheers thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!! This was a fun video to make, and it was great to highlight the positive impact Progressive Rail has been making in the area.
Great video... The location where the ex-MN&S mainline connected to this stretch of track used to be called "Autoclub" and there was a wye there. The "High Line" also used to go a bit further north, past where the aggregate plant is now, to a passenger terminal at 54th and Nicollet that was also served by the Twin Cities street car line.
Glad you enjoyed it! I was on the fence with using Auto Club in conjunction with Nesbit, but opted to use the modern term the crew called it. It would have been very neat to see this area back in the MN&S times. Thank you for watching!
@@SD457500 You're right. Most folks these days wouldn't know about Auto Club. Apparently it was a pretty busy place in it's day. Keep coming with these good videos!
You lucky Douglas to have done this cab ride! Really cool video too, I love industrial switching action like that. ;)
It was a great insight, and wonderful opportunity! Progressive Rail has a wonderful business model, and they go the extra mile to serve their customers.
The Minnesota legislature just lifted a 20 year moratorium on commuter rail planning on the Dan Patch line.
I just heard about that! I hope it doesn't affect PGR's operations in anyway.
WOW..!! With some IMAGINATION this could connect to the Mall of amer. line down American Bld. ???
Awesome video and enjoyed watching. Have a nice rest of your day.(Steve)
Thank you for watching, and glad you enjoyed it! This was a fun one to create.
Your very welcome and glad to hear you enjoyed creating it.@@SD457500
Fantastic video! Would love to see more like this.
More to come! These videos are fun to produce, and I love how the drone really shows the maze of tracks.
Great video, love all the switching drone views
Great to hear you liked it! Those SW1500s look and sound GREAT, and work some neat places.
When did rail traffic stop going south of Bloomington across the Dan Patch Line swing bridge into Shakopee, Burnsville and then Lakeville? It's neat to see the tracks and crossings are still there.
I think you went easy on the driver at 11:35 by merely describing them as "inattentive."
Truth there; I had to pick my words carefully for CZcams. :p. The sheer lack of awareness by some of those drivers is astounding!
@@SD457500 Yep. Despite that reputation for "Minnesota nice," there are a good amount of shitty drivers around the Twin Cities (which I unfortunately know by experience).
I see nothing wrong with this statement!
Where TF is Nesbit, MN?
It is located in Bloomington, and it is a location specific to the railroad. It is near Old Shakopee Road, and Hampshire Ave.
@@SD457500 Gotcha. I live in the area, work in Bloomington and had never heard of it so I was confused!
Happy to provide clarity! There is actually a sign by the yard which states 'CPKC Nesbit Yard' these days.
I enjoy all of your videos , but I think this one is one of your best.
Just a idea , Iowa Traction in Clear lake /Manson city Iowa. also owned by Progressive .rail
I visited it close to 30 years ago. might be interesting to see the changes since progressive bought it.
