“Can’t-Stop” Candied Peanuts!

- WARNING: Do not make too much cuz you will eat them all way too fast!! These were my ultimate childhood treat. They are the perfect movie snacks, and pack up well as an edible gift for the holidays, or a hostess' gift. They are also vegan (if you use cocoa instead of Ovaltine) and gluten-free! ถั่วกรอบแก้ว
The peanuts are coated in crunchy candy coating flavoured with cocoa, and sometimes a little coffee. They're rolled in toasted sesame seeds which give you that munchiness of sesame snaps. Few snacks are more addictive than these and it only takes about 20 mins on the stove; no oven needed!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Hi everyone! So glad to see so many of you have tried this recipe successfully! Although a couple of people have reported that their peanuts were still soft inside. If this happens it's likely because your heat was too high, and the sugar crystallized faster than the nuts could roast. I explain more about this in the written recipe on my website linked in the description above.
Also, if you have questions about this recipe, you can post it here for the community to answer. But if you want to ask me, please tweet me, post the question on my Facebook page, or visit my website (all links are in the description above). If you leave questions in the comments I may not see them due to the large volume of comments I receive across the hundreds of videos on this channel.
Also, before sending on any questions be sure to read the written recipe on the website and your question might be answered there. I often add extra tips and notes not covered in the video.
As always, thank you for watching!
Frankly, I think you are the smartest person I know that ever have a cooking channel. I mean you have the capacity to do greater things rather than just running a cooking channel on CZcams. Have you ever think about that? Anyway, I hope you'll do many great things in the future. Keep healthy and safe...
The amount of sesame in the recipe elludes me. OR... it's a missing detail in the video. 🤔
OMG! I cant tell you how happy I am to see this recipe! I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mahasarakham over 30 years ago. I made it my mission to secure several bags of these every time I went on a 'tio'. I made your recipe and it transported me instantly. I've tried to make various versions of these over the years and always disappointed. The coconut milk was the key. Sublime! And even better with almonds (though I did very lightly toast them first). Big hit with the family. Kawb Khun Lai Lai!
I am a professional cook too and I am so addicted to your videos and your personality. When I want to make my Thai dishes super, I always go to your videos. Keep it up and thank you
I made this with almonds. It was amazing. Even though I messed up the sesame seed part.
Love this peanut recipe. Also love the attention to the details and nuances to make a tasty snack more tasty.
I was so glad to see your video in my feed. My favorite chef! Can't wait to try this recipe. My mother swears by korean cook ware.
Hi Pai: I tried this out today and the candied peanuts were irresistible! "Can't Stop" peanuts is indeed the right name! Thank you and take care!
Shova
Love love love this recipe. I didnt have peanuts but i did have almonds and it turned out so awesome. First batch didnt last long. Thank you for this recipe!!!
L-O-V-E-D your recipe!!! I even tried half a batch in the microwave right before it turned all powdery. Both the batches taste amazinggg! Totally addicted!
Good detailed coaching. The critical points, if missed, could cause an "Oh no! Something's wrong!" moment. Again, you have done a great job here. Thank you!
Just made these today. They turned out amazing! So addictive and yummy.
Yummmmm!!!! They look sooo good! I definitely have to try these!
Thanks for the great recipe x
Store them in a mason jar??..... I'm gonna store them in my belly
lol!
hahaha very good
Best place where to store the peanuts hahaha
I am sure only a Nut can store more nuts :)
right? what "store"? THAT much is one sitting of snack! omnomnomnom.
I remember eating something similar in Singapore as a child. My mum added a tiny pinch of black pepper. Going to try this recipe. 🙏🏾
definitely I will give it a try. they look so delicious
Thanks Palin, really looks delicious, excellent description. Will definitely attempt.
I bought it when i was in bangkok, very nice. smell so good the moment pop it into my mouth.
I tried and is super addicting!!!!! Love the recipe!
I will definitely try this.Thank you for this recipe.
OMG these candy peanuts are so good and addictive.... Thank you for sharing💜💕😋😋😋
Your food looks so delicious!! Thai food has got to my favorite, especially the spicy dishes.
milo could also be a substitute to the ovaltine powder. Will definitely try this with a bit of instant coffee
Hey! I think I found a solution for the "undercooked" peanut problem! I did this myself - I cooked them as directed, but probably rushed it a little. They came out good, but were soft and tasted a little off. I looked up a recipe for roasting peanuts in the oven, and used that, and cut down the time. What worked for me: I just left them on the baking sheet with the silpat, and then put them in the oven and turned it on to 350F. I set a timer for 10min after the pre-heated chime sounded. So, maybe like 15min total? I pulled them out and let them cool, and they're perfectly crunchy and have that roasted peanut taste.
A recipe which I have all the ingredients at home right now! Definitely gonna make this soon
Edit: I made this two times yesterday!
Please feature more thai childrens recipes! Me and my little one would love that!
Love this peanut cookies. I will have to give it a try. Looks easy to make 😁👍😋😋
ooooo, love it, mouthwatering and I am a peanut lover, so definitely will try making it, Thanks, Good Job 😀
Thailand has a lot of varieties of snacks and finger foods. One of my favorites is the coconut chips.
Hi Pai - this is definitely going to be my next attempt - I didn't eat them in Samui, never saw it but it sounds delightful. I love your techinical detail - well done, a true professional. Your face when the gas ran out was priceless.....!!! Thank you so much - looking forward to trying the glazed peanuts - sound delicious. You take care in Canada - lots of Covid cases there I'm sad to see. Hugs from Brisbane.... Michael
Looks delicious... might try in the future!!!
My idol you always show delicious recipe and clearly presentation for making.
One of my favorite thai snack 💜
There is also banana chips and pla muk chips (caramelized and spicy)
Thank you so much. I just finished made it, it beautiful and i can not believe that I done, u awesome 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Were you happy with the end result on your batch? I know there are various elements that may affect the end result. I had more clumps or sugar outside than on the peanuts. 1/3 of the peanuts had lost their skin during the process. The sesame did not stick on as well. The peanuts although not raw tasting, were not crisp, although the coating was.
It reminds me one of my favorite snacks in China. Looks so delicious and will try it for sure. Thank you!
I wish my family was cool enough to give away Woks at Family raffles
it's only $10-15 at asian supermarkets. Raffles are like buy something for $10 so they got a wok for $10. LOL
I love ถั่วกรอบแก้ว so much and it nostlagia to childhood
I'm not liking this!! Why??? Cause I don't have any in front of me to eat!! Now, I have to go and get peanuts and Ovaltine as if my day isn't busy enough so I can make this wonderful deliciousness!!!
My day isn't busy at all.
Been waiting for this since I saw it on FB!
Maybe "keaw" because caramalized sugar looks a bit like glass shards.
Yes!
I watched one CZcamsr's recipe for tanghulu (basically crispy-sugar-coated strawberries) and I remember thinking they seemed to "shatter" like glass. I thought the description fit here too.
I wish I could make these! But I'd probably destroy one of my cheap pots/pans in the process. XD
that’s what i thought
Pai. U are amazing. I cant wait to have time to make this.
Oh my Lord I wish I didn't make too much of this. I probably ate most of this on my own. So good!!!! My husband is half Thai and loves it. I think next time I'll make this for my Thai mother in law.
Yayyyyy!!! I LOVE PEANUTS!!!! Those candied peanuts taste so so SO GOOD..... Great recipe.... See u next time....
I tried your recipe yesterday. Although I just used 130gr sugar instead of 160 like yours but it was still a little sweet. The next time I will add more chocolate powder and coffee powder to reduce the sweetness also make it more flavor. Thanks you a lot for an amazing recipe!
Its beautiful. I had a version of candied ground nuts in india called chikkis. I loved that too
Im trying this soon!
These are amazing!!! and so easy
so amazing ,been following you for a while now and wil do again ( from Belgium)
Awesome video like always. I’m a huge fan. Your recipes are always appreciated whenever I make.
Please teach the salted version with kaffir lime leaves. We bought them from Ching mai.
Please reply Pallin.
We have a similar sweet here in Argentina called Garrapiñada which is basically peanuts coated in caramel with vanilla essence sometimes, the are sold everywhere, you can find street vendors on every corner and every park in my city and I agree with you, they are so addictive
Now I can't wait to make this Thai version, thanks for sharing this recipe with us :3
Thank you for your wonderful recipe! I love peanut
Awesome! Thank you for sharing.
I love that in Mexico, raw skin-on peanuts are really easy to find. I have a whole fresh kg just in my pantry for no particular reason.
I just made this today and used cocoa powder instead of ovaltin, color is darker but taste delicious!Thank you so much and will probably make more to share.😋
It's looks so good... 👍 thank you P 😊
Wow ...i have been waiting for this... thanks for your own method........ Here in Cameroon we have something a little bit different and called it groundnut sweet 😊😊
I made these today and they were super yummy!
Hello Pailin, I really enjoyed your video on “can’t-stop” candied peanuts!! A couple of years ago I had spicy tom yum nuts in Japan and I fell in love with it. I have been looking for it in Canada since then but no luck, so now the only option for me would be to make it myself. It’d be so great if you could share a recipe for that. Korp khun ka!🙏🙏🙏
OMG, I am making this as soon as I can find raw peanuts! Yum!
also i love the shirt!!! your merch is so cute
Thank you!
Thanks for your receipe. I'll try it
I just tried the recipe..i tried 1 batch of peanuts and another batch of almonds following exactly your recipe to the mL. It tastes really awesome and very addictive 😍😁
Thank you for this wonderful recipe..👍👍👍👍👍
Could you tell me if the sugar used in the recipe is a lot, do the peanuts turn out too sweet?
I will definitely try it!
Coffee also helps boost chocolate flavor, so is often added (either as instant coffee or instant espresso) to chocolate desserts.
I tried it out today! It is really tasty. Though I had to make do without sesame seeds and ovaltine.
My favorite snack
This looks so delicious
❤❤😍
Pai, I love this snack from my little kid days too! Thanks for making it. Now I can try to do it myself. I also love your big wok pan. I'm going to search for it. Thanks!
Please share if you can find the wok pan. Thanks.
It's called a "Korea King" - though we don't have it in the "Kit" as it doesn't seem to be available through Amazon. Cheers! Adam
Thanks for responding Adam. I did find it on Amazon through a sub-seller for $529.51 plus s/h, and also through Alibaba. Too pricy for me. The Thai Consumer Protection Bureau in May of this year launched a full scale investigation into the manufacture and safety of this company's "marble" brand products as there have been complaints that it does not contain marble and is instead thought to be aluminum coated. It may not be a big problem but no reports of findings have been published to date, as far as I can tell. Just something to consider if using acidic ingredients like vinegars or citrus.
@@donneone OMG that's crazy expensive!! .. and thanks for the info!
@@adamthehtkminion6750 - I think so too! Welcome.
I never had one it look so Delicious
Tq for the recipe. I might do this n sell it.
Yeah!! They sure sell well in Thailand!
there’s something similar to this in korea! soooo good.
I will try it,🤷♀️ thanks!
It Looks yummy im ganna try this thanks for sharing...
How long it last when you stock in the container after cooking?
Made this today and unfortunately, mine came out soft, too. A few tips:
1. I kept the heat very low, so I don't think the problem is the flame. It's the peanuts themselves, which are huge, about 2cm long. They didn't have enough time to roast before the syrup dried up. So go for the size in the video.
2. A non-stick wok will work better than a conventional one. Not that the sugar will burn, but I still lost quite a bit to my pan.
3. I did 300g of peanuts but I didn't scale up the sugar, and I find it sweet enough.
Hope everyone succeeds!
Thanks so much for this! Might help out some people having trouble with this one ... Cheers! Adam
I made rhis recipe with a twist of spiciness. The more it bevomes addictive.
Made these for Lunar New Year for my family, and distributed them out in small bags. Everyone couldn't contain themselves to just 1 small bag! 🤣
Thank you for sharing this I remember eating these in Bangkok. I made this in a small coated sauce pan with homemade coconut milk and it was amazing but I don’t really have coated pans( aka non stick pans) I only used stainless steel & cast iron pots and pans. Would it be possible to make this in the stainless steel pan ? I wanna make a lot to give ppl as Christmas gifts
Yum! Thanks
Hi there, I'm going to try this out! I've had them in Thailand before. So good! How long is this good in the jar for? I intend to make them to give away!
I would love to mix that with furikake popcorn....❤️
Ovaltine! Yeah, I used to drink that as a kid. It was really more something from my parents generation. My dad claims he had the decoder ring. I never knew they marketed it in Asia.
I used to hoard them in 7/11 in bkk. Lol happy days.
Hi Pailin, Ive tried. Taste really good but without sesame seed 😀. I may want to try adding chilli...we love spicy. Tq for sharing.❤ From Malaysia
These r good... gonna try it... 😋😋😋
I think the ”glass” part refers to the glacing as in มะพร้าวแก้ว ka, p’ Pai. Good recipe ka
Omgosh Ovaltine....a childhood favorite, alongside Horlicks.
yay im early again!!!! these look so good i have to make them
i love how thailand (and malaysia, singapore and some other places im sure) use milo and ovaltine sometimes, growing up in australia i love them so much and its so cool to see other countries enjoying them too and seeing how they use them. in australia no one really does anything more than follow the package directions so its cool to see people use them in cool ways for a change aha.
Diseased looking peanut, that made me laugh 😆 when you added salt 🧂 I was thinking why not added at the beginning but you answered my question as I was think it lol 😉 I never tried this snack before, ovaltine, coffee and coconut milk flavored peanut!! I gotta try this!! 😍❤💙
It was look so delicious 🤤🤤 Can I ask how long the shelf life because it has coconut?? thank you for answering ❤️
Forgive me if I've duplicated questions, but:
(1)Can you sub witth coconut sugar?
(B) Also, (for the adventurous): How about either red pepper instead of coffee, or pepper flakes instead of sesame seeds? Will the capsacin muddle up the sugar chemistry?
(notice how I used "muddle" instead of *expletive delete*?)
there is no asian market where i live. 😅 i will definitely buy the skinned peanuts when i go to the next town over after quarantine is over. i love love these when i was younger.
I think you might be able to find skinned peanut s in Mexican restaurant as well
When I was living in Thailand, I used to make these with skinless peanuts all of the time. The sugar sticks to most all of them and it really wasn't a problem. I never could find raw peanuts with the skins on them, so I used what I could get. If you can skinless raw peanuts locally without having to drive to the next town, I'd just buy those and give it a try.
@@slc12312 i have two giant boxes of skinless roasted peanuts 😅 but they are presalted
@@gozu9455 hmmm, already roasted might not work since cooking them in sugar kind or roasts them, they might burn. But at least with the salt, you wouldn't have to salt them. Try a one cup batch and see. A simple recipe is 2 cups peanuts and one cup sugar, so you could just scale it down as an experiment. Then if it works, try her recipe. I think they would over cook though... now I'm curious, lol.
I've made this today. I don't know why, but I don't taste ovaltine or coffee. Nonetheless, it was delicious and addictive! great video :)
Hi, I really love your cooking channel very much! Thanks for sharing the recipe. But can I add cornflakes, granola and berries too using the same ingredients? Need your help ka. 🙏
And then cover it with chocolate :) would love to experiment with this
the way Pai yelled "Adam, quick" lmao
Tiann N. Chong but why to hide his face?
@@rudavalek It's an ongoing thing :) (and I'm not nearly as pretty as Pailin :))
Yum! Please suggest substitutes for a savory version...
"You've been warned". I like that
Can we use regular milk instead of coconut milk? These look delicious btw
delicious 😋
I taste is very good, I made two batches however is can get the sesame to clign to the peanuts. I waited to see wet spot but after 32 minutes I pulled it off the flame so it didn't burn. I am my waiting long enough.
"Don't eat these right now. It'll burn your tongue off!" LOL
Looks delicious!
These would be nice with a little cayenne pepper, salty sweet and spicy.....
i want to try it with furikake
