    wanted to know about few pennys I found the "o" in of is different size then other one example it has "of" with small o and others have "OF" with both letters same size are they mistakes thank you for taking time to help people band teach so many wonderful things

    • @TreasureByMeasure
      @TreasureByMeasure  Před 6 lety

      +Michelle vieth Hello! Great question. It sounds like you discovered an example of a die variety. The size of the o in of will depend on the year. It's pretty common though. For example, a 1983 will show a small o while the new 2017 shows a large O. Check the date of your coin and Google image it to see what is common for the year you have. If what you have looks different, then you might have found a rare die variety. Hope that helps :-)

    • @TreasureByMeasure
      @TreasureByMeasure  Před 6 lety +1

      +Joey Aleman Unfortunately, no silver in the 1971 Kennedy half dollar. However, in high grades, they could be worth up to $5. The silver coins, called "junk silver" do have better values, but will fluctuate with the price of silver and what kind of buyer you're dealing with. Numismatic collectors will pay more for coins in better grades, regardless of metal content. I don't know enough to help you with you paper bills, but there's got to be some good Internet forums out there for that topic. For your coins, I really like the forum, CoinTalk. Hope this helps, and good luck! Keep us posted :-)

    I also bought a box of nickels and on the end of a nickel roll there's a big D stamped in it it says 1977 from the Denver Mint now do they do that at the mint for some reason

      +Robert Grah The big D you describe sounds like a counter mark to be, which would happen while in circulation. I don't think the US mint is producing them.

      +Steve Roush I'd love to find that quarter! :-D I know that 1982 was a transition year and composition errors have even been found in the '83 year set recently...which excited me because I've been hoarding those pennies forever because they're my birthyear. Just need 10,000 hours to weigh then all! Lol but I'm not so confident about what you're referring to in the '84 set? Please, more details :-)

    My question is more about the "sound" of the coins. Recently I had a pocketful of change but one of them had an odd sound. Not sure what one it was because by the time O got home I noticed that sound was gone. Initially I ignored it until I was up late and ran across these types of vids. To describe the sound is hard. Just to start off with, I usually don't worry about pennies because; well; it's only a penny and if I have to wait for her to get a roll for a couple of cents I'll just tell her to apply it to the next person.The last time I heard that kind of sound was with a 1967 quarter and a 1971 dime. As far as I could find, there was nothing special about those years. So, with trying not to be long winded...and failing miserably...what could have cause those to have a noticeably different sound?

    Just subbed! Interesting channel, I have a quick question... I metal detect and often find silver coins. Now they have been in the ground for over a hundred years... if I pull a valuable silver from the ground, what would be the proper way to clean the dirt off. Also , if I find a really valuable coin that's been in the ground, can these coins be graded by the PCGS or even be graded? Does being in the ground affect their ability to be graded? Thanks man, I appreciate your responses! HH and best of luck

    • @TreasureByMeasure
      @TreasureByMeasure  Před 6 lety

      DugMoney Detecting Great question! I wouldn't expect a coin in the ground to receive a high grading, especially with all the grit of dirt scratching the surface. But, silver coins are still considered "junk silver" so, they'll still have value. I would probably just used some soapy water and soak the coins over a couple of days, then rinse. Don't rub anything off because you'll create deeper scratches. It will clean things up a bit. And, you'll probably only be looking at a few bucks anyway. I wouldn't send them in to be graded, you'll pay more than the coin is worth. Good luck and keep us posted with your finds!
