Welcome back to another episode where man and machine attempt to do battle with Haulover Inlet!
This episode we are back home at Haulover Inlet. Who will take the win this week between Haulover Inlet and the Boats?

@@RideAcrossTheRiver I can’t believe some parents put their life in danger by not having their kids wear life jackets, not only dangerous but it’s a hefty fine, when I was a kid the boat wouldn’t move unless I wore a life jacket

Haulover won the last round since its hard for a vessel that can go easily 40 knots to get that much water inside. The captain also knew that he would get water since huge waves were rushing to the boat. The boat also had like 3 motors
I loved the fourth guy cause hes just a casual person that doesent care about the conditions and just goes in and the part where he splashed the two girls was my favorite.
I love the videos and i alway watch them before i go to class, and the first time i found them on my recommended.

I've never heard of Haulover Inlet before an hour ago, but I can't stop watching these videos and judging the boaters lmao

When someone has a boat worth more than my house and they run Haulover like that, Haulover gets the win.
1:22 ♦️For non-boaters, let me explain the issue:
Say you are walking, crossing the street. You know you need to time your crossing so you do not get run over, right?
Well, following seas, which means the waves are moving in the same direction as you are moving, are like that. You need to time your crossing, your location on the wave, and speed, to safely cross the area where the waves are most intense, the point where the wave energy becomes focused due to the water depth decreasing.
This situation where you cross a bar is intense but brief. Before and after the bar, the waves are far less intense. When you are over deeper water the waves are spread out. Once you get into a safe harbor, the waves are over. Your goal becomes to safely cross from one area to the other where the waves are most intense.
The safe location when crossing a shallowing following sea is on the back side of a wave. You adjust your speed to match the speed of the wave. Your boat is positioned like its going uphill. You maintain steering control and remain dry. If you go too fast or slow, you will get your boat on the front or downhill side of a wave. At this point, the wave is pushing your boat. Because the wave is pushing your boat, not your propeller, your boat is moving with the water, and you no longer have water moving past your rudder. This means you loose steering control.
Lets say you come in too fast, and ride over the waves peak. Now the water that was holding your bow (front) high is gone, and you slide down the front of the wave as your bow drops. This causes the front of your boat to meet the back of the next wave with your bow down, resulting in you stuffing the bow below water. Water comes over the boats bow and floods the boats cockpit.
Lets say you come in too slow. You do not keep up with the back of the wave. The front of the wave behind you pushes your boat forward, resulting in the water moving at the same speed as your boat. With water no longer flowing past your rudder, your boat will turn sideways. Then the wave causes your boat to roll rather dramatically from side to side.
Within this video you will see boats that come in too fast, others that are too slow, and some that get it just right.
Riding the back of a wave to cross a bar is a skill, and it explains why one large boat with a deep hull stuffs its bow while another smaller boat with a shallow hull gets through this area just fine. Captain skill is more important than boat design.
Most boat skippers have the skill to cross bars without issue. These filmmakers edit to remove most of the skilled bar crossing because its not exciting for you, the viewer, just like fishing shows edit out the hours and hours of time the fishermen doesn’t catch anything.

That is the best comment I have seen to one of these Haulover threads. Speed here is not your friend. Try that on a real bar crossing where the waves actually break. Come to Long Island south shore and try that.
@@ikkeennietjij well..you might end up dead. srsly, the current in any inlet are insane, you get exhausted really quick even if youre a decent swimmer. get lost from the line of sight with the boat and it gets really hair-rising.
but since this is close to land, you might as well just be fine and remember the day for your life.

I’ll give the captain credit for learning his lesson in the final round, that said he still somehow managed to stuff a vessel that large so that round belongs to Haulover.
Loved how the Captain just said, "You CHOSE to sit up there!" and sent it anyway.

Haulover Inlet is like a calm day on Lake Erie
I've been on Lake Erie when it was behaving, and other times it's " I see Cleveland, then wall of green water, Cleveland, wall of green.....not fun! Sure didn't catch any walleyes!

always up for a boat v Haulover video. As a landlocked boater I don't have to clench my teeth whenever someone slams down.
I think I’m still gonna give that last one to Haulover. A boat like that should’ve easily been able to power through it but they chose to start of slow taking a few bumps and some water from Haulover. They were able to figure it out but not before Haulover had to remind them so to me it felt like a haulover win.
At 3:10 the boat slows, at 3:18 the captain throttles up and turns right, at 3:22 the captain makes a hand gesture to his left, at 3:26 a jet ski can be seen peaking a wave. Boats definitely won.
⚓️ I have been watching for a while and learning! I do have a difficult time watching bc I shattered my L1 vertebrae on a 17’ Tri hull run about by hitting a big wave. I was on the bow when a big 45’ cruiser past us slowly (therefore big wake). Hit so hard I felt the shatter! Sooooo, your channel, while entertaining, is a really valuable tool. Especially when you explain why they stuff and what they should have done to avoid it… like huh the sides, etc. I watch your videos every single morning while I wake up and drink my coffee, lol, I think maybe one of those cool mugs has my name on it! Maybe with a boaters Purple Heart too!

The boater who buried his bow in the wave was very lucky his vessel maintained its buoyancy. A center console open fish may not have been so lucky. There's a you tube video of a center console entering Haulover inlet way too hot for the sea conditions. The pilot steered over a wave crest and buried his bow in a wave and created a textbook broach for himself. The east wind and outgoing tide makes Haulover as treacherous an inlet as anything on the south Jersey shore. Many years ago I was caught offshore in a nasty derecho . Haulover was the closest inlet to us. My boat at the time was a 44 Striker. The waves at the mouth of the inlet were at least 14 foot breakers. I turned the bow into the sea and backed in through the inlet. It was a hair raising ride

I jet ski the inlet quite often. Once I totally submarined the ski. That I will NEVER forget - scared the you know what out of me!!

I think we can all agree, this is, by far, the best Channel on CZcams. Even probably the best channel, period. I mean, I love my kids but, when Guru post a new video... well, that pablum spoon airplane gets delayed. I think The Beatles said it best; « All you need is Boat Vs Haulover ».
I used to think our old boat was cool, until i hoped on a jet ski and saw the wobble😆. I couldn't stop laughing. On the same boat, a 21 foot tahoe deck boat, we thought we could manage some yacht waves and ended up stuffing the bow pretty badly. Not as bad as that midnight express though🤣🤣. That was nasty!
Also I'm gonna give the final round to haulover since the captain slowed down and let that wave come over. It was the captains fault that his boat lost. Sorry but haulover won the 5th round.

The Seacraft easily won simply because of how much fun they looked like they were having! That’s what makes this lifestyle worthwhile.
Some of these guys drive like they just traded up from a Jetski.
The last round goes to Haulover, a boat of that size has enough freeboard to take haulover on ten-fold, I find it impressive that the captain manages to take a wave over the bow. As far as the guy that stuffed the bow, Midnight Express should make a submarine for him.

I’ve fought the Haulover in a 23 foot Searay.
Was a bad day, coming up from the keys in the ICW.
Swells off the coast of 8-12 feet.
Waves in the inlet were 16-20 feet.
I had never experienced the Haulover on a very bad day.
We were submerged 3 times.
I don’t have any clue as to how the engine kept running.
Thankfully it did, we made it out turned quickly around on top of a large swell.
Like we were on a large hill.
Careful throttling, we surfed back in.
Moral of the story.
When going through the inlet, and you see people waving at you frantically.
DONT DO IT, immediately turn around.
Don’t tempt the Kraken.
Not funny, it’s not a joke, take it seriously please.

Gotta award the final round to Haulover. A guy who drives a boat like that should know how to get through the channel from start to finish. Making your boat a giant water bucket is never good.
Seacraft was the obvious winner. He knew exactly how to ride the swells without dipping in.

Have to say, after showing us the Midnight Express take the bashing, the slow go guy wins against Haulover because he takes less water over the bow, then readjusts. He merely used the waves to clean his deck before a day out.
My favorite was the "Will He Stuff It" Midnight Express. That dude's heart had to be pounding out of his chest when ate that wave. He was squishing water out of his eyelids for sure haha. Easy win for the haulover inlet. :)
This round goes to Haulover, they absolutely blew it. I have seen smaller boats come through there on a rough day and had no issues. This boat needs to find a better captain!!!!!! Love you guys. Gonna buy a boat just to show all these guys how it’s done!!!!!
