Stührling "original" are these budget friendly watches any good?

  • so Stührling seem to get a fairly hard time in the watch community so I thought it was about time they were given a fair crack of the whip as there doesn't seem to be many videos about them on CZcams,
so let me know in the comments what your thoughts are after seeing one up close.

This is the brand I am strugling the most with. No other brand is more time consuming to research and understand, lacks independent videos and reviews or finding a proper advice. They are not at all forthcomming when it comes to their movements on many models. Just the opposite, they do everything they can to hide the fact they are using Chinese movements on their Legacy watches (skeleton ones that I like the most). It is the same with thier crystals. They use "Krysterna" crystal, like Invicta uses "Flame Fusion" or Seiko uses "Hardlex". But, it is very hard to find out what "Krysterna" means until you discover they all mean mineral crystal. Then, they have $200+ watches with cases not made out of stainless steel, but brass. And they don't tell you that. You have to understand it on your own when they say that only the caseback is stainless steel. Then, they have a ton of different cheap quartz watches. Which makes you suspicious about their other watches. They also use a "Swiss" mehchanical movement on their more expensive divers, which ends up being Chinese, but only assembled in Switzerland. It took me a lot of time to discover all this stuff. Then they have tourbillons for less that $1.000. It also took me some time to find out the that tourbilon movement is Chinese. I wasted a lot of time and never bought a Stuhrling watch. They are not for a watch afficionado. Only for the mases. Which is too bad. Because I really like the design of their skeleton dual time watches.

I have to agree with you, I don't think I would be buying any of their automatics, & there does seem to be areas in pretty much all of their advertising that is left deliberately "grey" leaving the consumer to work out for themselves what it is that thier buying into.
However I can only really speak with any confidence on the watch that I have reviewed as that is the only Stührling that I have handled so far
& as a daily "beater" it seems OK but its only OK it is no "luxury watch" also like you I was surprised that there were almost no independent reviews on any of thier watches which is why I decided to get one in & test the water so to speak & see what others made of it. So I really do thank you & value your input. Very interesting......👍

I think the reason this brand seems ro get so much hate is as I mentioned in a previous comment too many grey areas & unknowns then there's the "original" text on the dial there is nothing original about them at all.
As far as "watches for the masses" goes yes I get what you mean, but I think that even those watches & there are many brands that fall into that category, have a place there are so many collectors that started thier watch collecting journey with something like this one, so even though you may dislike these for someone else maybe just stating the journey it could be their gateway watch into the collecting rabbit hole.

I don't need to do much research to tell you that a cheap tourbillon is made in China. You get what you pay for. I'll give this company credit though, they do a crazy amount of marketing and a good job of hiding the facts behind their watches.

I returned my Stuhrling watch the same day I received it as this poorly made and horribly designed watch would NOT allow the crown to be screwed in properly so it will protect the mechanism from water.
The reason for this horrible mistake is that the two prongs that are located on each side of the crown (for supposedly to protect the crown) were improperly made too tight (too close together) to allow the correct space for the crown to be screwed in properly to make it a decently tight and secure connection to the case.
After screwing in the crown as far in as it would possibly go without over-tightening it so not to damage the threads there was an annoying gap between the crown and the case because the 2 prongs were blocking the crown to being screwed any tighter which made me feel very uncomfortable and very nervous.
How careless can Stuhrling really be?
