The batt life indicator wouldn’t be on unless the light was on. So that doesn’t really make much sense. Plus it could go out after 5 seconds or so after the light was activated like almost every other indicator I’ve seen.

About not having turbo available in Tactical mode, my guess is because if you were clearing rooms, the turbo setting might axtually be too bright for the operator with splash. On the other hand, if you absolutely want to blind someone, the strobe comes out at maximum brightness... just a guess. Ive already purchased as Im hoping the button feels like the great button on the Warrior mini 3! Ive owned a Warrior X3 and Warrior 3 and find I have a really hard time quickly finding the lower mode with the tail switch... a problem the new buttom on the WM3 hasnt had at all.

I'm wondering if it will be voltage sensitive. Alot of other Olight flashlights with "turbo" levels won't give you turbo of the battery isn't full...
Something overlooked is that in a tactical situation, one doesn’t want to blind themselves too. Same goes with weapon mounted lights, especially pistols. Makes sense this light has medium and high strobe in tactical mode.
I would sum it up that Olight seemed to address a few things compared to the X3, but curiously omitted others, like the beads in the strike bezel, and the somewhat ‘backwards’ modes, as Chris pointed out. With Christmas around the corner, and having our old fridge die, and having to spring for a new one, I’ll most likely pass on this. Still looks like a great light. Come on Olight, give us that ‘perfect’ light! 😃
Finally retiring my Warrior X pro. Been using it for 6 years and its been flawless, never died on me at work. Looking forward to the new X4. Heres hoping a pro doesn’t come out next week lol

I personally love having the modes as they are, if I happen to get caught unprepared in the normal mode I can still use high. Both modes have a blinding light at a full push therefore muscle memory will still have the unwanted person well and truly in my sights!
The hidden battery life indicator has already been mentioned, you wouldn’t want extra led visible while using a tactical light. Also, you complain you don’t get 2600 lumens and strobe in tactical mode, but I think the 1000 lumen mode is perfect. You get a much brighter light than the 300 lumens, without the battery destroying 2600 lumens. That makes for a bright, very usable mode with strobe at the ready.

@@ChrispyThingsI’m willing to bet that the 1000 lumen medium mode is a compromise to avoid wasting battery and not deal with the light stepping down in situations where the flashlight needs to cut through extra ambient light. I have a javelot mini that has proven itself as a surprisingly useful EDC given it’s design. That said, the 200 lumen low mode is a bit underwhelming when I need the light to cut through in situations where there is more ambient light, such as well light streets or urban environments. If I were an officer working in an area that was well light enough by street lighting, I don’t think the 200 lumen low mode would have enough cut to spotlight attention on someone while using the light as a photonic barrier for myself. However, I wouldn’t want to use up the turbo mode all the time for interactions that aren’t dangerous, or that might take a while to deal with. When I was at a park testing some flashlights I owned, a conservation officer saw me and came by to make sure I wasn’t spotlighting deer, which is illegal in many areas. The officer first pointed his flashlight at me, then at the ground when it was clear I wasn’t doing anything dangerous. He didn’t need the turbo to dazzle me, and having a lower mode avoids the light stepping down. Basically, the low/high mode can serve someone who works in an area that doesn’t have a lot of a,Binet light. The 300 lumens is excellent to see by, and provides the benefits of a photonic barrier, allowing the user to excercise the turbo mode only when they need it. The tactical, 1000/strobe mode is useful for someone working an area where they don’t need a light to see by, and they’ll only pull the light out to check alleyways, or for extended interactions in areas that are aleady lit enough to see by without a flashlight. 1000 lumens provides enough cut, and the strobe is still there for getting attention, or dazzling someone else.

Normal1 is 300/turbo Normal2 is 300/1000 Tac1 is 1000/strobe Tax2 is turbo/strobe Given the purpose of this light, I could easily see these 4 mode groups being switchable using the current method without too much hassle, and I could see applications for each of them.
Just received mine… Some negative points to consider: Needs an instant strobe button Takes a little while getting use to half pressing and full pressing the button. Sometimes you’ll go to turbo/strobe mode (depending on what mode you’ve put the torch in) when you don’t intend to. More brightness levels would’ve been better such as a really low lumen between 2-50 lumen and so on. Magnetic tail stand would be awesome Indicator lights for battery level and brightness levels like the Nitecore MH25pro (esp if it had more brightness levels) TAC mode only has medium (1000 lumen) and strobe mode. The 300 lumen low mode is not accessible in this mode and the 1000 lumen medium mode is not available in the regular mode. Putting it into TAC mode is a bit silly by having to unscrew and then screw in again the tail end of the torch.

Im guessing they use medium with strobe mode for the intentions of police/security use. You want to blind someone with 1,000 lumen first to visually check for weapons etc. If they are a threat you can immediately boost it to the max strobe setting (surpize mode!). If you had high and high strobe their eyes would adjust faster to the bright light or piss them off because you cant always assume the perosn is bad. Plus you dont want to shine max brightness into someones eyes when you dont know if its violent or consensual. Like someone shining their high beams instead of a regular headlight. Thats my guess
How is having a USB-C port a problem? The magnetic charging cable is less conventional regarding various hardware so it's actually a good thing they implemented that. Also you can still purchase the knuckle ring if you want (or use a better third party one).
Their QC has definitely diminished. I ordered three of these. Out of the three, two have switch issues no allowing the lights to activate high at all (on a full battery). It gets physically stuck. One is not too bad but the other was completely unusable.
The fact that you can't easily switch between hi, mid, low, and strobe is why I'll probably return this one. Having high and strobe on one mode might have made me keep it. But making it take 2 hands and several seconds to switch between modes is not ideal when you need to switch quickly.

It was my understanding that this flashlight’s USB-C port could be used as a power bank to charge external devices but when I connect it to my iPhone 15 Pro Max, an error message appears on the phone screen indicating the charging source (Warrior X4) uses too much power and therefore will not charge the iPhone, at all. When I connect the flashlight to my 11” iPad Pro (4th gen), the red light beside the flashlight’s charging port illuminates but the iPad does not respond to the charging source, at all. Can the X4 actually be used as a power bank to charge external devices? or do I have a defective flashlight?
I'd imagine the reason the battery light is concealed is for tactical reasons and l don't think your team would appreciate a full beam in a small area during cqb. You'd end up blinding them
Nice review, kinda wish they kept the glass-breaker inlays since they can fit on low-profile bezels too as long as the bezel width is sufficient. About the Tactical Mode... I guess it boils down to what 'tactical' means to you. To me, there is a clear difference between 'tactical application' (using adequate lighting to complement other tools, including low light applications which the X4 is not compatible with) and 'self-defence application' (where you want to maximise the blinding factor since runtime is not a factor at all). In that sense, I think they nailed it (1000lm for constant/momentary + 2600lm for strobe). That said, I think LEOs and operators will benefit much more if the strobe gets swapped out for turbo. 2600lm is blinding regardless of constant or strobe anyway - might as well use constant output since it gives you much more info while being as blinding as strobe. Such change will mean that an operator does not need to change mode groups just to use a higher brightness if they proceed from indoors (where 1000lm is more than enough) to outdoors (where/when the short-lived extra brightness could be beneficial). Just press lightly while indoors, press harder while outdoors if 1000lm somehow isn't enough. This could be implemented as "Tactical Mode №2" in the future. It's also worth noting that the "medium mode" of 38kcd@1000lm is already throwing further than lots of duty lights and WML currently used by LEOs around the world. "Tactical Mode №3" could be added to please users like you. Turbo and strobe both being as bright as possible is pretty much what most tacticool flashlights do anyway. Nitecore, Fenix, Klarus, Nextorch, etc do this. I'd be surprised if any operator prefers this over the previously mentioned alternative if given the choice. Once your eyes adapt to turbo, medium/high feels less useful after the expected stepdown, which is avoidable by capping out at a sustainable 1000lm in the first place. The USB-C system is great but it still doesn't do much when the flashlight can't power off standard 21700. Still is a proprietary system albeit much of an improvement in the right direction.
I just got this flashlight from Olight. I must not have the magic touch to get the light to stay on in turbo mode, or in any mode. I must keep pushing the tail switch, and maybe after 10 times the light might stay on. This is not acceptable out in the field. I got no choice but to return it.
I have a Sofrin Q8 plus 16000 lumen with way too much flood, makin it difficult to see things like a coyote deep in an orchard, so looking for a thrower. This light does look interesting 👍
Great review. Olight really does suck with these "half-press" / "full-press" BS. Won't work with gloves on and in the cold. A separate mode switch is the ONLY way to go!
UI is still way too limited in my opinion. They could have added a moonlight and medium mode without being in the way of the others easily. Also, I still want a neutral tint and some CRI on a tactical light. Even though most tacticals don't do it, being able to actually identify what you're looking at quickly is very important. It's not just the difference between a leaf and some dog fouling in a tactical situation too.
I agree to an extent but on my "tactical" lights I like as much simplicity as possible. Having low and high makes it easier to use under stress and easier to put in someone's hands who usually wouldn't have to mess with a flashlight like this
The warriors are the ultimate torch hand down but why cant they just make the UI go from low mode momentarily burst turbo then seamlessly back to low which is how a person that actually uses the torch uses the modes, seems a no brainer to me but hay I just use the torch, what would I know 😂
Yeah..Olight goofed on a couple of features with the 4. Having the power indicator light hidden is laughable especially if you’re in “tactical mode” which is really regular mode? 🤔 Major plus for Olight for switching to a USB-C charging port in the sleeve. Not clear if the 21700 battery is proprietary or can run on any 21700?
I don't get it why they didn't include more brightness levels, and why limit tactical mode to 1000lm + strobe. I get it, that's ok fir a police officer, but still feels kind of limiting. No glass breakers, thinner head - looks like they cut costs. Too bad. This light could be so much more.

X3 is very good, so there is no flash. I'm looking forward to the result of x4 being made into something like shit. There are no broken window beads, no magnetic rat tail, and no appearance like shit. I want to put it on a gun and bow and arrow in my hand. I have a better choice for others.
It's not an issue on the X series at all. The X3 has no mode at all, it's just quick half press = low, quick full press = high and maintained press is temporary until you release the button. Very simple. This X4 is exactly the same, except that you can quick press (high or low mode), then twist the cap until it reaches a point where it actuates the "tactical mode" and screw it back on and it stays like that. It's not bad, unlike some flashlights requiring mental gymnastics to know how to access strobe, high, medium, low.
The only reason Olight has started including USB-C charging options on some of their lights is because people have been requesting it, not because of any EU nanny-state nonsense. The MCC magnetic charger is still standard on most Olight products.

I like that Olight hid the battery life light indicator. In a tactical situation you wouldn’t want any extra light to show other than what you want.

I’ve got to say even low power is absolutely perfect for most situations and high is overkill just the way I like it!

Two ways to charge it is definitely a plus the deal-breaker for me is no Carry clip.
The glowing ring should be in the Baton series. I had it in an S30R javelot and it was great.

Two charging ports we don’t need and no knuckle ring. Haven’t been happy with Olight. Last Halloween sale had way too many issues to mention.

the modes are a balance of battery life/ to brightness for extend duty use in tac mode to have enough battery life to complete a night shift.

Great review. Olight really does suck with these "half-press" / "full-press" BS. Won't work with gloves on and in the cold. A separate mode switch is the ONLY way to go!

Just the fact that this will run at 300 lumens for 8 hours is pretty amazing.
UI is still way too limited in my opinion. They could have added a moonlight and medium mode without being in the way of the others easily.
Also, I still want a neutral tint and some CRI on a tactical light. Even though most tacticals don't do it, being able to actually identify what you're looking at quickly is very important. It's not just the difference between a leaf and some dog fouling in a tactical situation too.
I agree to an extent but on my "tactical" lights I like as much simplicity as possible. Having low and high makes it easier to use under stress and easier to put in someone's hands who usually wouldn't have to mess with a flashlight like this

Olight has the best UI I have ever tried. Neutral tint is less efficient in terms of lumens per watt. It is not used for good reason.

The warriors are the ultimate torch hand down but why cant they just make the UI go from low mode momentarily burst turbo then seamlessly back to low which is how a person that actually uses the torch uses the modes, seems a no brainer to me but hay I just use the torch, what would I know 😂
Yeah..Olight goofed on a couple of features with the 4. Having the power indicator light hidden is laughable especially if you’re in “tactical mode” which is really regular mode? 🤔
Major plus for Olight for switching to a USB-C charging port in the sleeve. Not clear if the 21700 battery is proprietary or can run on any 21700?

I don't get it why they didn't include more brightness levels, and why limit tactical mode to 1000lm + strobe. I get it, that's ok fir a police officer, but still feels kind of limiting. No glass breakers, thinner head - looks like they cut costs. Too bad. This light could be so much more.

X3 is very good, so there is no flash. I'm looking forward to the result of x4 being made into something like shit. There are no broken window beads, no magnetic rat tail, and no appearance like shit. I want to put it on a gun and bow and arrow in my hand. I have a better choice for others.

How does the x4 compare to the MR2 PRO?
I find all the modes/features etc very confusing. I like the light strengths etc but just want to be able to press on/off.
I don’t want to have to practice using my light to successfully operate when needed.
It's not an issue on the X series at all. The X3 has no mode at all, it's just quick half press = low, quick full press = high and maintained press is temporary until you release the button. Very simple.
This X4 is exactly the same, except that you can quick press (high or low mode), then twist the cap until it reaches a point where it actuates the "tactical mode" and screw it back on and it stays like that. It's not bad, unlike some flashlights requiring mental gymnastics to know how to access strobe, high, medium, low.

The only reason Olight has started including USB-C charging options on some of their lights is because people have been requesting it, not because of any EU nanny-state nonsense. The MCC magnetic charger is still standard on most Olight products.
People have been requesting that for rats and they did nothing.

Olight has Horrible Quality! If one of my lights stop Working from one Moment to another it s an Olight. Nitecore, Fenix Never died by my side
