- Hello my friends!
In this video I'm working on a DIY eclectic whimsy patio makeover in my cozy suburban cottage. Full of fantasy, gardening and fun decorating! I had to work with a budget and of course since I got the itch to do this during the spring season everything is at full price at the moment. But I think with what little I did to this space it still turned out completely different than before. I am in LOVE! Sitting in this area is so much fun now and I can't wait to entertain in this space.
ALSO I have news! Recently I got a new camera! It has been a learning curve so I apologize for the late video this month. Hopefully the more I learn the faster I'll be able to get content out for you. In the meantime, thank you for your patience!

Since so many have asked the firefly lights are from amazon and the dragon is from Home Goods!
I just learned this: Put some rocks in the birdbath, they need it to be pretty shallow. You can have varying heights by differing rock sizes. Wildlife watering spot. Your husband's brain is excellent!!
Thank you Thank you!! Your love comes through!!
Love the books!!!
Thank you! I painted those last year in my “Goodbye to Summer” video 💜
Love the marbles, they just add a pop, I think I will try it! Thanks🌸🌸🌸so inviting,, looks fantastic 🥰🥰🥰
Beautiful! I felt so cozy. Going to copy you.
Definitely enjoyed this. Looks so homey yet up to date. Great ideas for me to copy. Thanks
I’m so happy you enjoyed it!
What a lovely makeover! Thanks for sharing very inspiring!
Thank you for watching!
For the grey poles, you can do what the "Stone Cottage Home" channel did with theirs in their recent patio makeover, they got 2 fence boards and put them at an angle so that they covered the poles and drilled them into the fence. It ended up giving them a more custom look and covered the ugly grey! Hope this helps! I love how it turned out, especially the marbles in the fence, I never would have thought of that! I've been wanting to add whimsy to my patio as well even though my usual style is neutral English country cottage.
Oh wow! Thank you for the recommendation ❤️ I haven’t done much research into disguising the poles at all! They are quite an eye sore 😣 but I just chose to block them out of my mind haha!
I hope this video helps to inspire you and maybe you can figure a way to add whimsy to your English country style
@@shelbyscottage I saw the video from "Stone Cottage Home" also and when I saw your metal poles, I thought of that solution they used. The poles are too distracting and take away from the vibe your trying to create. Your backyard is enchanting. I especially like the little containers of water for the insects & birds
I’m so glad I was directed to this video. I’ve already talked to my husband and asked him to get me the materials. They are incredibly distracting 😅 buuuut I wasn’t going to let that stop me from making something pretty of this space 💜
@@shelbyscottage So glad I could help! They uploaded it at just the right time!
Oh yes, saw it. Great idea, and affordable or many give away free.
Looks really lovely. - Frances ❤
Loved your video, that 🐸 is the cutest 😊💜
Thank you! 😊
The marbles are a great idea. I will copy that.
Such a lovely video! Your patio looks so inviting and beautiful! 🪴🌷🌼
Thanks so much! 😊
I like the marbles .
Carpenter bees put holes in everything in Georgia….plant some lantana and confederate jasmine…….They get bigger every year and smell divine!!!!
No lantana for a lot of places like here in Florida it’s invasive. Just do your research for any plant that is recommended to you based on your area. Some plants can be really harmful for your area but okay for other places.
I love lantana! They do get very large! Will look into the jasmine, thank you for your suggestions! 😊
You're right! We have the invasive weed type of lantana that comes up every year. After doing a bit of research over the last few years, I think the kind you can buy here in the nurseries aren't the invasive kind...? 🤔 But I can't be certain.
@@shelbyscottage local nurseries are always your best bet to find non invasive plants over big box stores!!
such a lovely video. You did a great job on your patio. You are so talented. Thanks.
Thank you so much!
Love the dragon, and I think that whatever makes you happy is what is important.
Love the marbles in the fence and the way the light shines through them. The stained glass lanterns tie the marbles in and add such cozy ambient lighting for evenings. Feeling inspired for my own current garden project. Thanks for the creative ideas!
Glad you like them!
I love the eclectic vibes, nothing matches but it all works together. Great ideas!
What a great makeover!! I too saw the marbles in the fence idea and thought it was so magical! You did a great job!
It’s such a good idea! Thank you so much!
I love this makeover! You have really changed the space. Boho allows for mixed fabrics etc and with whimsy adddd it's perfect. I love the lanterns and the marbles totally work!
Thank you! 😊 I’m so glad you enjoyed this
what a fabulous makeover, Love everything* the watering stations you set up for the bees, so so sweet. If you get mosquitoes there you should sprinkle some mosquito dunks or bits in the water* I do that because I like bird baths and watering stations also* enjoy your beautiful new space*
Good idea on the dunks! Thank you so much for your kind words!
I love when a space come together with all the things that you already own and somehow it just all works out. Truly magical!
Shelby, your garden/patio space is so very nice! I love the marbles in the fence. And actually, your cushions match perfectly....that green and blue sun pulls it all together...the green in the umbrella and the blue in the cushions!! And...your husband's idea is perfect for using the cushions. The whole space is so inviting and absolutely relaxing! I love all your whimsical pieces....well done!!
Thank you so much my friend!
Beautiful iris. Don’t forget that the rhizomes don’t like to be covered completely. Pretty yard.
Lovely,... I really like the marbles. So WhimsY.. Blessings.
So fun and love the whimsical touch especially that dragon!!!
Thank you for sharing …
Thanks so much 😊
Wow, everything looks amazing 🌞🥰and relaxing 😊
Thank you! 🤗
I love the marbles in the fence what a cool idea😊
What a beautiful garden space. You’ve made it so cozy. I love all the little touches and water features! New sub here.
Thank you for your kind words! I’m happy you’re here!
I absolutely love your Sun❤
Thank you! You can find similar ones on directfrommexico.com!
Love that you painted the perfectly good and lovely patio set. Having those multiplying Iris are such a great addition to the garden. I may have to try some, now that you said they do that. The marbles in the fence is such a unique look. And the gifted lanterns must be stunning at night.. You definitely have an eclectic style , with a great mix of colors . As for the ugly white table... your words not mine... Just paint it in a nice blue for a pop of color and cohesiveness with the cushions. It all turned out great , and will only look better as it matures .
Thank you so much for your kind words! I have gone back and forth on the table, I just recently put it out there when a few friends came over and we needed a little extra space and I can’t decide if I want the elements to just finally take it and then buy something new or paint it. But with the idea of painting it a beautiful blue, I can see holding onto it a little longer 😃
Everything looks beautiful and I love your imagination!! Just an FYI - NOT a criticism but to let you know (as you said you were new to gardening) you should never move a plant while it's blooming and iris plants should be planted very shallowly with the top of the root just under the soil. They are best moved in fall or very early spring and the leaves cut to just about 5" tall. Good luck on the gardening journey - I can't wait to see how everything turns out!!
😅 When I was separating the irises from the group I realized I picked one that was already blooming but decided to just go with it. Definitely a mistake but not a biggie for me.
You're definitely right about when in the year to plant them. When we first moved into this house it was about June-July and I just took them from the ground at our old place and stuck them in the ground here and they have been so hardy so far! Thank you so much for the feedback and for watching!
I love what you did with the place. I know you said you didn't know much about gardening, so I just wanted to tell you that when you water your flowers, do it at night or when they are in the shade because if you get the leaves wet when the sun is out it burns the flowers which is why your irises turned brown after you planted them. They should recover if you have been watering them enough after planting them. They need a little more water than usual, especially on hot days. If you have any gardening questions, let me know. My landscape architect fiance and I can help. Once again, great job! I especially love all the colors!
Thank you! 100% on the watering, I normally don’t water during the day. I just wanted to make sure the ground was a little moist in case I forgot to water the transplants before all was said and done that day 😅 luckily we’ve had lots of rain and I’ve been taking care of it all since making this video. You’re so kind to offer some help! ❤️
Beautiful, just beautiful relaxing g, quiet, peaceful, calming, cozy, private, I like the marbles in the fence, just so peaceful.
I am the same way. I let the garden let it grow the way it wants to grow. I even do my food garden the same way that’s why I have plans where they shouldn’t be but they’re happy there so I leave them alone eventually I’ll have a food for us where I just go out and pick food to eat and don’t have to do anything because it’s where it wants to be and it’s happy. The same with the flowers I leave them alone and you never know what’s going to come up and where they receive themselves in my garden and the bulbs multiply but I am so happy with how the results is.
I love the marbles in the fence idea.
Doggy supervisors are adorable!!❤❤😊😊
Thank you! 😊
Wow what a great transformation! Beautiful❤
Expertly filmed and very relaxing. 😊
I adore what you've accomplished! It doesn't take a pro gardener to enjoy nature and learn what works in the garden... you've proven that. Just my style!
I have those same firefly solar lights in my front yard flower bed. It is a magical feel.
They are so magical! I love them!
Oh my gosh, everything turned out so pretty when you were done I loved all the chairs and the blue and the cushions in the blue and white and seeing that wonderful dragon in the background against all that brick and that beautiful blue and green sun metal sculpture everything look perfectjust perfect. You made a sweet cozy corner for anyone could enjoy.
Love the dragon! Great results😊
Looks gorgeous love the marble idea ☘️🇮🇪
This was my 1st video of yours watching. So glad it came up on my feed I've subscribed. Loved how you transformed your pace. My husband and I have been doing a lot to our yard we had a dirt backyard now we have a workshop paver pathways and a fire pit area we did ourselves. Extending the patio along the house now. Can't wait to start planting definitely need some green. Thank you for sharing I'll definitely be checking out more of your videos
I'm so happy you found my channel and that it's inspiring you! Thank you so much for your kind comments and for watching!
Very beautiful and magical! I love your sweet videos and look forward to them.
Thank you!
Bonjour , Félicitations , c'est très beau ! à bientôt dans d'autres vidéo 😍❤
I love Portulacas, I never planted them in the ground only in pots, and, to my amazement, last yr. I saw them in the ground everywhere, front & back gardens. They are so pretty and bloom all summer. I live in WI and we have a short growing season. I'm crossing my fingers and hope they come back again.
Ooh! So maybe they aren’t annuals? I remember nursing some in pots during winter seasons and they made it a few years but that’s with bringing them inside. So far… no growth in the ground yet. 🤷♀️ Maybe by some miracle they’ll start to but who knows?!
I’ve seen a few people say they are perfect to go in between cracks in the concrete and stepping stones.
@@shelbyscottage Yes, they are annuals, especially in a colder climate. But they came back, I mean a lot. Almost in every garden. I love all the colors. I also had volunteer Pansies, all over the place. I'm new to gardening only my 3rd yr. It's fun!
It can be so rewarding! Plants are wonderful 😊
At first when you showed the marbles, I thought it seemed kinda pointless but in the reveal... woo boy, I was very wrong. So cute!
😅 it was definitely a trust the process kind of moment. Thanks for watching!
So pretty! I love all the whimsical touches. But the best thing in the video is your two sweet old doggies meandering around. 🥰💕
This is so sweet 🥹 thank you!
So pretty.
It looks so lovely, magical. I love my garden too, a safe haven, a place to retreat too and truly relax. Well done, I'd love to pop in for a cup of tea and a chat, but Britain's a bit far to come, happy gardening hun.
Would love to be where you are my friend! 🇬🇧
Love the end product. Thinking you will eventually move the bird feeders cuz, from experience, they make a mess. Further back in the yard will be better. Tfs cheers
The large sun piece on your wall is both green and blue. Which I feel plays well with your mix of textiles and umbrella. The night scenes were amazing, I love ambient lighting. 💚🩵💙
It did all end up looking good, didn’t it?! Thank you so much! I do too, spending time outside especially at night is something I love to do so having the magic of the ambient lights was a must ✨
Simply amazing. Where did you purchase the large sun piece….Loveee it!!!
@@peajay8179 I bought it at a store in Marble Falls, TX called The Pottery Ranch. But I think you can find them on directfrommexico.com
Absolutely delightful and magical! Can't wait to see what you do next. You've inspired me!
Thank you so much! 😊
I love the dragon ¡!!!!
Your patio looks beautiful! I love everything you did, especially putting the marbles in the fence. I’ve never seen anyone do that before. Also, I think your chair cushions, umbrella, and garden art go together perfectly. I’m not sure why you were concerned about it initially. Blue and green are a timeless color combination, and you have several pieces of garden are that are blue and green. Really, it’s just wonderful. Thanks for sharing!
Love the marbles in fence. Night lighting is magical. Good job. 😊💥
Your garden has a lot of character now. Great job 🤩
Thank you my friend!
I absolutely love what you did ~ great job! I love the marbles that you incorporated into fence! I wouldn’t have ever thought to do that. My mind is racing on how I can do something like that in my yard. Thank you so much. BTW….. I too live in Texas 😊
Thank you! I’m so happy this video gave you that creative itch ✨
Beautiful, I especially love the marbles in the fence.
The fence and oh my that dragon 💜

@@shelbyscottage Where did you buy it?
I bought it at Home Goods
I love it all, I am also an eclectic decorator. Thank you for sharing !
I love the marbles in the fence, it adds such a whimsical touch! All the work you’ve done looks good so far! I’m in the beginning of my gardening era with a fairly large backyard so I am excited to incorporate some of these ideas!
Thanks so much! 😊
This is very inviting. I love the marbles in the fence. I have the same type of fence and I’m going to do that also. And I have the firefly lights already. Aren’t they just adorable.
Lots of cute touches.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! The firefly lights are so great. Thank you for watching!
Beautiful 😍 🤩 👌 ❤😊

Absolutely beautiful and so incredibly peaceful. Amazing job!
Im making a new flower snd fairy garden so much fun.
Those globes are beautiful and the color from the marble in the fence is a nice feature. I also love the blue/green sun! Nicely done. I have a small area that I have been wanting to do something to.
Beautiful space
Your patio and garden are so refreshing. Thanks for sharing. The marble idea is great, I just just loved it all.
Thank you so much!
It turned beautiful ❤very inspiring
Greetings from Ireland, Your patio and garden are beautiful, There the bees knees.
Hello, new to your channel. Everything is so beautiful. I have Irises to, been thinking of separating them. I think I will they are bigger than ever this year. Again thanks so much for sharing. I'll be watching. ❤
I love this. I want to get firefly lights for my yard too!!!
After a month of having them, I’m still really glad I bought them!
Lady I’m so happy that I stumbled across your channel this very early morning! I can’t just pick one item-everything is so beautiful! Oooh so beautiful!! Fantastic job!😊❤
Thank you so much! ☺️
I love it so much
Huge win, girlfriend! Well done & great, calming, vibe :)
Thanks so much!
For irises to bloom at their best the rhizome must br showing so the sun gets to them. Put water in the hole before planting so the roots will get instant hydration when planted. Water again after planting and then mulch. Hope this helps
Thank you! Although you’re right, I’ve had these irises for over a decade. They’re very hardy, so I know these will survive. 💪
Just came across your channel. So pretty love it all, just a thought for the bee's you could also screw plastic bottle tops on the fence for bee's to have a drink xxhave a lovely day
What a beautiful job you did!!@ I love how it turned out.
Beautiful job on your garden space!
Love this precious space!!
❤ Good Morning 🙋🏻♀️ I just discovered your channel!!! So loved everything and it came together beautifully!!! But that dragon stole my heart!!! I’ve never seen anything like that for the garden! Really neat!
I’m so happy you found my channel and are enjoying it! Isn’t he the best? I found him in Home Goods and snatched him up really quickly. I believe it’s acrylic, perfect plastic piece for outdoors.
Love the marbles ìn the fence. If you could find a few of the really big ones, that would look great too. The plant you have in the ɓike planter is a violet, and they are inside plants as it won't survive outside. They like a lot of water, and Texas heat will kill them. ❤
Yes, I know the violet is an inside plant. It was only used for the purpose of this video as a prop, so no worries there 😅. Thank you! I love the idea of large marbles scattered throughout!
I luv it, you did a fabulous job, it’s so warm and homey!!
Your garden is beautiful and I love the whimsey! I've done something similar in my garden and love sitting out at night with the warm lights glowing! Greetings from Ireland!
Lovely🌿🕊️
I like the poles holding the fence rather then 4x4 posts...I can't wait to try a few of your ideas your yard looks so inviting ..thank you
Im 72 and I helped my mom pick up the exact same iron chairs when I was in high school in the Texas panhandle. I transplanted iris and I have marbles in my wooden gate and the same solar bubbler in my bird bath. Funny.
Wow! That is funny!
