Maybe it is the same as with top level chess. In the old days the masters would play all kind of crazy attacks and sacrifices. Because their peers were weaker and the overall skill level was lower. Over time it became more conservative/positional and draws are more common. It is because everyone is SO good there is less room for risky creative play. Maybe in football best teams overall are too good to allow creative play.

Same thing made basketball boring. Too much three point chucking and layups when exciting basketball has always been midrange shots.

Because midfielder wo aren't technical are chosen over the technical midfielders because of stats

Those players were 1 of 1. nowadays players skills are manufactured and carefully choreographed, Free flowing football with individual creativity is a thing of the past

It’s clear why football has fallen off: VAR, divers/whiners, and the monetization of players & the league in general. None of which were even mentioned in passing in this video.

Yes there were more technical footballers back then but you also gotta remember that they were allowed freedom to develop their flair. Now a days football academys throught out the world are more like English academy's where the coach is a dictator thus making this physical footballer that are robot like instead of the magicians like Maradona, Messi or Zidane who played in the streets

@@G676aqiu-78 Yes he did. He played both for club and pick up games in his neighborhood. Plus in Argentina and brazil they focus more on letting the kids learn on their own. Opposed to the US and eglish system of yelling at the kids all the time

Football has become SO BORING. They literally stand still and pass the ball around endlessly for 98 percent of the game... Awful to watch.

      @TheOutlierToday Před měsícem +3

No they don't. Players run more than they ever had. There's just no flair anymore. No personality left in the game. Players just run up and down and pass the ball. There's no heart, Players are cheats and overall the game is just less creative. Players seem very similar and none really stand out. Players and tactics are restrictive to improve efficiency but damn it's boring.

Bro, no offense but you're too young to remember how good football used to be. Money, greed and managers have ruined the beautiful game. Now it's all passes.. and goals scored from short range. Back in my day football was all about dribbling/running with the ball at your feet and scoring from long range. Football has indeed changed a lot, sadly. No one dribbles anymore. No one shoots from long range like Roberto Carlos used to. The goals scored are so ugly nowadays. Most of the goals are scored from the box nowadays. The midfielders, wingers and fullbacks rarely score goals anymore.. Back in my day everyone was scoring goals, not just the strikers.

2000s was the pinnacle of football so even the 80s.90s and 2010s or 20s will not match that era, we need to accept that and not have are expectation to high

i really think this has to do with the changing tactics, because most people nostalgia comes from seeing a number 10 role, a enganche that has to be very skillful and has that freedom other roles dont have, ever since the game has shifted to a more conservative and mechanic landscape, the creative outlook is different, it comes in wingers and managers, like real sociedad and fluminense that had these strategies that adapt to the recent game while still gaining that freedom for players like ganso and david silva.

    Great vid.
The game is actually faster now but in a more compressed area. The distance betweem the 2 defenses could be about 20 to 30 yards. So the speed of thought and the speed of pass has increased. The game is evolving into 1 massive rondo. The modern prototype is either a CR7 or a messi. Either very good at dribbling like Vini or strong and quick like Jude. The artistry of Ronaldinho and Zidane is going. The last was Neymar.
You are right about numbers any vid on most player shows only goals and about 100 different angles of the same goal. Even if the vid is about a defender.
The ballon d'or is about goal scorers alone now who is the next defender to ever get a ballon d'or?

With vinicus we all have an issue: he is a great footballer, but he isn't a great sportsman. He's the perfect inpersonation of what's wrong with football. play on, deal with the toughness and play the game for the game's sake and not for clicks and followers and clout

In my opinion all the players are too good now, in the past you had a few amazing players. but i think at the moment, because of all the acedemys that are at such a high level that they weren’t at before, there’s just too much amazing players. Which makes the amazing players less special and less enjoyable to watch.

    Its all about tactics now
The players are not free to play their own game anymore
Girona played the football we knew before
Its also alot about your physical abilities now
    If you are physically weak
May academies will not train you because you have no potential

Van Dijk is the most overrated defender ever. Sure he's pretty good and was on top of it like 4 or 5 years ago but he was never as dominant as many of the defenders we saw b4. He is strong and quick, a good passer as well, probably physically 1 of the best defenders ever, but he never had the heart or the will to die on the pitch for his team like vidic, Ferdinand, puyol, or even a ramos. He disappeared in many big games. He's nowhere near a Maldini or Beckenbauer either. I would even take Pique over him. Much higher football IQ.
