  • In this episode I get to join the training programme of the Police Academy for a day! What an incredible opportunity and I did and learned so much today that it didn't even fit in one episode!! So this is just part 1, in which I get acquainted with two different police bike and try out the first exercise: braking in the corner at higher speeds! EXCITING!

    I was a motor cop for 15 years in the US. When I was a lieutenant, I had a line of police bikes from all over the world in my office. One day a man and his so walked by and the man was pointing to them, so I wasn't out to greet them. He had been a motor officer in Kennemerland in the Netherlands so I gave him one of our Traffic Division polo shirts. A few weeks later the son arrived and dropped off a collection of Dutch Police items including a baseball cap, tie, and tie bar. It was great to see you getting to experience some of their training. The instructors were great representatives of the Dutch Police. I'm glad I discovered your channel with this video! Best wishes from Delaware, USA! 🇺🇸🏍

    First day out with my license I went too hot into the turn and braked and stood the bike up and went into oncoming traffic but got lucky. Ever since then I’ve always put a high value on advanced rider training, defensive riding techniques (which doesn’t mean slow, quite the opposite in fact), and regularly practiced braking at various speeds, lean angles, and different bends (parabolic increasing curves are my favourite), emergency braking, and trail braking. I still watch and analyze crashes to see how I could have prevented them, try to learn new techniques, and try and hone low speed maneuvers. Never stop learning. It always pays off. My advanced training and constant focus on learning has saved my life 3 times that I know of.

      Hi Frederik, just curious, do you happen to know why the police bmw r1250rt has the (wunderlich?) throttle lock? I mean do the police RTs do not have the factory cruise control? Or is it to keep the revs up when the bike is stationary? Again just, I am just curious and perhaps you know this.

    • @frederikadam6183
      @frederikadam6183 Před 3 lety +1

      Hello Noud, for the exact reason why you would have to ask the person driving it. But I do have an idea. Every city orders it's own specifications on the bikes. It does happen a lot that the cruise control is not ordered because there are too many other buttons to be installed (and for the price as well). Also the bikes being offered to the police zones are pretty much standard. Like I said, the police force orders the specifications needed themselves. That wunderlich throttle lock can be convenient to practise figure-8 moves, very slow speed maneuvers ,... to keep the revs up. I saw as well that the bike had a non standard throttle lock ;) :p

      UK motorcycle officers are very highly trained. In fact, the must serve time in a traffic/response car before they’re allowed to move up to the bikes. UK police also do riding days with the general public motorcyclists that would like to improve their skills.

      I did my compulsory basic training, then my direct access test with an instructor who is an ex-police motorcycle officer. The level of training was superb and I went out on test day with a greater level of knowledge and skill than I needed to pass that day. He was excellent and it’s part of the reason that I have the utmost respect for their skills.
