As a customer, I'd say Barrett's looks very visually appealing. But as a sous chef, if he worked under me, I would tell him to redo that toast. Burnt is a no-no in my kitchen. It doesn't taste good, it doesn't look good, and it gives the impression that whoever put it together just didn't pay attention. His excuse that "it'll be hidden" kinda proves my point. Jasmine's was fine for a home presentation. I'm impressed that she wasn't intimidated by trying to poach her first egg!

It can be both. Someone who cooks but does not have professional training. She just appeared shy and not as confident in the intro but she did a great job

I like a more honest plating, where taste -- not a photo -- drives the creation. And I wish NYT would focus less on food stylists and more on cooks and chefs and food science.

Both look average at best. Even taste wise I am pretty sure both are mostly bland with just the occasional burst of taste here and there.
