I hope this video is useful to you, whether you're getting a PICC line for yourself or you're trying to understand what someone else is going through :) Love you guys! Chronically Cute
First, I'm sorry you are living with cystic fibrosis and wish you the best with your health. Second, thank you for being brave and open enough to document the patient point of view. I am a new nurse and am beginning to learn how to do dressing changes for PICC lines. I have very limited experience and nervous about providing care. Patient centered care is very important to me and I am grateful to have patient perspective. It truly helps me to close the gaps of my knowledge and be that much more capable of explaining things to patients. Stay well and positive. You are a true champion. :)
My mom is getting a picc line today. 😔 I just watched a procedure video and OMG you and my mom are brave!! My mom was born with cystinuria, a rare kidney stone disease. She passes stones every day and gets a lot of kidney infections. 😔 Last year she stayed in the hospital 8 times and in the ER so many times, she even stayed in the ICU. 😔 But now they're saying she can have all her medicine at home! I'm so happy she can stay home now! ❤ Your video is amazing! It really helped more than the others we watched. I'm only 11 so I understand your video better than the others. Thank you for sharing and calming me. Stay strong!
Thank you so much for this great video. I was started on a temporary IV for antibiotic med today and have to get a PICC line ASAP. You have filled in so many details that everyone at the hospital assumed I already know. Your engaging demonstration is perfect conveying what I need to know and now I understand what is going on. Your video should be standard viewing at all hospitals so that patients are informed and put at easy by your engaging style and personality. this video really IS the BEST ! Sincere thanks and best wishes to you.
I wish I found this before my picc line, you're so calm and soothing and informative. I appreciate your candidness and wish you a long healthy life. 💖😄
So happy your PICC Line works for you. The dr had a PICC put in me & I developed a DVT. Now I have to spend at least the next 3 mo. on blood thinners. If I bump, scrape, or cut myself I could very well die! Nosebleeds are also a danger to your health & quite common on blood thinners. KNOW YOUR RISKS, do your homework, and ask for clear explanations before you let ANYONE insert a PICC Line, your life could depend on it!!!! I WOULDN’T even recommend a PICC Line for my dog!! BAD, BAD NEWS...BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS!!
question, no pulling back for blood flow?? why do the heparin in the middle not the end? also flush all 3 lines how often?? (thanks!!) old nurse starting home health.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! YOUR VIDEO HELP ME SO MUCH TODAY I WAS SOOO SCARED I HAD TO GIVE NY UNCLE MEDS THROUGH HIS PICCLINE AND IVE NEVER DONE IT BEFORE . YOUR STRENGTH AND CALMNESS HELPED ME SETTLE MY NERVES TO DO THIS TODAY. MUCH LOVE TO YOU 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽💞💞💞🌌🌌🌌
I have a picc line in right now for 8 weeks with IV antibiotics for a blood infection 😬 Its running 24hrs a day so I have to carry my IV bag in this little backpack with a pump I did alot of research while in the hospital and videos like yours helped
Great video! Was watching this while in the hospital before having mine put in and made me feel much more comfortable about what was ahead of me. Thanks again!
Thank you so much I am a kid and I just got I picc line and I’m missing out on summer I watched your vid right before the procedure and it really helped me
Thank you for this video. I just got a PICC line for antibiotics to kill off a back infection before I go to bypass surgery. Very informative and friendly and upbeat! God bless you and all of us as we get healthier. 👍🏻😁
Great video. I’m a transplant recipient and a transplant educator. I lived with a PICC line for 10 months. It not an easy life but it’s great to be alive. I will be sharing and recommending your video on my CZcams channel. Again thank you.
it's always unclamped when you first open the tubing because if i is not opened for a while and it is in a clamped position it can actually kink the tubing and it wont unclamp when needed.
I love your attitude and that you made this video. I have one for chemotherapy and blood draws. I wish all the best for you and commend you. (Isn't crazy to taste what goes into the PICC line? LOLOL)
Great to see. I have to do my mothers' for 4 weeks of antibiotics so this was good preparation for what will be 'taught' to me this afternoon and maybe for when or if she wants to do it herself. Thank you.
I had a picc line for 6 weeks when I had endocarditis and septic shock...I don't remember ever having to get it replaced..but I loved bandage change day because it got so itchy!
Just wanting to give a WARNING on PICC lines, they should never be inserted into a person with total leg paralysis that only has their upper body for transfers. The transfer from wheelchair to bed is enough to severely damage the brachial plexus nerves, and cause permanent paralysis to the patients arm.
I'm so glad I weren't for a port, when it's deaccessed, it's almost invisible and i can access it when I need it. They offered me a central line or picc in addition to my port, i couldn't psychologically handle a permanent tube sticking out. Plus, I'm allergic to chlorhexidine, which means I can't use those anti-infective disks and would have higher infection risk
I have cf as well, I’ve gotten a picc line before but I was put to sleep during the procedure. Tomorrow I am getting another one but I will not be put to sleep and I have so much anxiety.
Would the process of administering the saline, antibiotics and anti-coagulant be made easier if there was a syringe that could deliver them all one after another without having to use multiple syringes? A multi chamber syringe maybe?
Can any one get them like I hate being poked every time for either blood draw or surgery so I was wondering to fix all that would I be able to get a picc line so they can go do what the drs have to do off the picc line???
i have a picc line in the right side of my chest for tpn cause i have trouble eatting and i also use it for my one seizure med i also have a feeding tube that i use for the rest of my meds cause i get sick when i use my feeding tube for the feeding tube formula thank u sometimes i feel like i'm the only one that has a picc line
I have recurrent acute pancreatitis, and the picc line is a blessing since my vains are hard to find. The picc line is a huge step up since the ivs dont last when I am in the hospital.
davea0511 Yes, of course :) The only exception is when you’ve got very bad veins and they can’t insert a normal i.v., what happens often to chronically ill people who had lots of i.v.‘s before (the normal i.v. veins are „scarred“ then and they need to use a deeper vein)
Amjad Hussain And you should also wear a mask when you’re talking during the change (because everyone accidentally spits a bit whilst talking sometimes and that’s not always visible and then you’re wondering why you’re getting an infection if you’re unlucky 🙁)
Hannah Lutz They normally don’t put adults under sedation for picc line insertions, but they will give you a skin sedation. I’ve had so much anxiety and we’re very lucky because they’ve put me to sleep a bit after I’ve asked them, but I think it’s normally not that bad to be awake during it. For me it hurt a bit for a few days but I think that’s normal because it’s a tiny injury.
I may have to get one because my veins are extremely hard to get and if they do find one it doesn't last. As I'm sure you know getting IVs are painful enough, how painful is getting the actual picc line? I'm actually really scared to do it but I may not have a choice. Thxs for making this video, God bless you.
I know you wrote this 3 months ago, but i just got a PICC yesterday 9-11-18. It isn't very painful. I felt the sticks of the lidocaine and just a little uncomfortable with the first start of threading the line. Nothing to cry over and I have panic attacks a lot lately..I didn't have one with this. Im sure you have it by now, but if not, good luck and its not bad at all.
I'm kind of irritated that they didn't just give you an infuser for your antibiotics because I don't know about you but on the days where I feel really really bad I hate having to give myself my infusion over periods manually I just hook it up to my infuser and get it done lol
I just had one removed on the 22nd. I was in a rehab center, but only because my house was being refurbished. Not exactly the best environment for a PICC line. They finished on Monday, I went home on Wednesday.
Barbara Robinson Showering yes, bathing is normally not allowed but there are picc line protectors which you can buy on amazon for example and when you’re wearing one of those and take care to leave your arm and the line out of the water it works as well :)
The cap on it prevents any kind of backflow and only syringes can open the cap up. No germs can get inside the cap unless you connect a syringe to it without cleaning it with alcohol first.
brenda burroguhs I thought that too... Gloves are not needed if she cleaned her hands before very well and uses the no-touch-method, but I’d definitely use a mask, especially when you’re talking during the procedure (because bacteria from the mouth could „fly“ to the catheter or the medical stuff, because sometimes we’re accidentally spitting a bit whilst we’re talking)
"this could cause problems with the ... everything" haha i love that. i used to have nightmares that there would be huge air bubbles in my line

Karen LM as a medically retired RN, and a patient with a PICC line, thank you for wanting to learn all you can to provide great nursing care!!
My mom is getting a picc line today. 😔 I just watched a procedure video and OMG you and my mom are brave!!

Thank you for this great, light-hearted video about PICC lines. I get one tomorrow and watching this really helped alleviate many of my concerns!
I have a PICC for six weeks for septic arthritis and found this video, you're so adorable. :p
I’m being trained on how to start picc lines as we speak. I’ve been an ER nurse for almost 9 years. You seem like a trooper. Great video!!!
I'm a nurse and you are awesome!!!
question, no pulling back for blood flow?? why do the heparin in the middle not the end? also flush all 3 lines how often?? (thanks!!) old nurse starting home health.
U r gorgeous, informative, great smile, oh did I say how pretty you are!

I was so scared to get my "picc" watching you be so chill about it kept mefrom freaking the fuck out. thanks

I'm getting a picc line today. I'm a 29 years old man and started crying when I watched a video with the procedure.
Great video! Was watching this while in the hospital before having mine put in and made me feel much more comfortable about what was ahead of me. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm getting a picc tomorrow and seeing this was super helpful ❤️
Thank you sososo much! Sweet of you to do this!
You are such a beautiful brave person. Thank for all you are doing.
You answered so many of my questions ! Thanks doll ♥️
Thank you so much I am a kid and I just got I picc line and I’m missing out on summer I watched your vid right before the procedure and it really helped me

I've never seen another person with triple lumens! You're great at it!
Great video. I’m a transplant recipient and a transplant educator. I lived with a PICC line for 10 months. It not an easy life but it’s great to be alive. I will be sharing and recommending your video on my CZcams channel. Again thank you.
Thank you, & I love your positive attitude. I am having one put it. & I will have it for 6 weeks.
thx. you are so right! Great job teaching about meds administration via picc lines
it's always unclamped when you first open the tubing because if i is not opened for a while and it is in a clamped position it can actually kink the tubing and it wont unclamp when needed.
im an 11 year old and i used to have a picc line so..i can feel you

picclines last up to one year midline is 2 months, great video

great video you did amazing job!!!
Its also for hydration and stuff not just antibiotics but love the video

They are good for about a year.
You are so brave! My prayers are with you. I am just starting six weeks of antibiotics for six weeks myself.
The blue thing at the end is call a hub. We say we "scrub the hub" when we clean it with the alcohol.
Thank you so much for this video. It made me less scared when they told me I was going to get one.
Thanks for a terrific Demo video!
Good technique and such a great attitude, too :)
Have you considered a medical career?
You're a natural teacher!
Excellent video. Non CF but picc line for post op infection. The every 8 hr is tough, just about to do my midnight ancef.
you should ask your doctor to see if you can get a port
How do you change your PICC line dressing and down it hurts right after you finish changing your PICC line dressing?
Fantastic Video
I'm so glad I weren't for a port, when it's deaccessed, it's almost invisible and i can access it when I need it. Thank you for sharing your experience with us :)
Hey Doll , A PICC line can stay up to a full year if it’s working fine .
this video is amazing
When you got your PICC line inscart into your arm did it hurt right after you get your PICC line inscart ?
Just an fyi. A picc line typically lasts 3-6 months and can last up to a year
Would the process of administering the saline, antibiotics and anti-coagulant be made easier if there was a syringe that could deliver them all one after another without having to use multiple syringes? A multi chamber syringe maybe?
Can any one get them like I hate being poked every time for either blood draw or surgery so I was wondering to fix all that would I be able to get a picc line so they can go do what the drs have to do off the picc line???
Thank you for the very informative video!
That was an excellent explanation. You would make a natural nurse.
i have a picc line in the right side of my chest for tpn cause i have trouble eatting and i also use it for my one seizure med i also have a feeding tube that i use for the rest of my meds cause i get sick when i use my feeding tube for the feeding tube formula thank u sometimes i feel like i'm the only one that has a picc line
Thanks, best wishes
God bless you ☺️☺️☺️

I wish I knew where to get that cover. The hospital gave me some bullshit sock with holes in them.
have you ever thought about port-a-cath?
How do you flush your PICC line?
I just had one put in today for chemo ♥️
Rachel Ikin Good luck and best wishes to you
Hey! How are you?
I just got my second PICC line about a week ago. It is SOOOOOOO itchy! Mine is not as long as yours.
I’m currently on a 24/7 antibiotics pump via a picc
My mom accidentally input the meds in the other lumen.. do you know what the difference is?
I have a port right upper chest cause I have sickle cell in man it’s a miracle worker cause I hate Str8 vein access.
Respect!
Did you ever develop any sensitivity with the dressing?
Your awesome I also have cystic fibrosis and I was to scared to get a picc line after watching the insertion video your brave
Hey! Do you still have a PICC?
How much does it hurts while the insertion
Are you going get your PICC line removed or your gonna have the PICC line for a very long time?
awesome informative video 👌🏽
Hey how have you been These Last years? Are you ok?
Can you draw blood thru a mid line ?
Great video. Question ... If you only need it for a week, can you get away with just a flexible IV catheter? Thanks!
davea0511
Yes, of course :)
The only exception is when you’ve got very bad veins and they can’t insert a normal i.v., what happens often to chronically ill people who had lots of i.v.‘s before (the normal i.v. veins are „scarred“ then and they need to use a deeper vein)
I had 10 to a 11 pick lines put in over my years
Does this hurt to get?
thank u
Dio you refuse the PICC line or a IV line ??n
Please always wash your hands before u touch picc line.
Amjad Hussain
And you should also wear a mask when you’re talking during the change (because everyone accidentally spits a bit whilst talking sometimes and that’s not always visible and then you’re wondering why you’re getting an infection if you’re unlucky 🙁)
why wasnt there a microclave on one of you lumins?
Does it hurt being put in? Do they give you sedation? I am about to get my first. Does it hurt after?
Hannah Lutz They normally don’t put adults under sedation for picc line insertions, but they will give you a skin sedation. I’ve had so much anxiety and we’re very lucky because they’ve put me to sleep a bit after I’ve asked them, but I think it’s normally not that bad to be awake during it.

Why not a Portal?
you are gorgeous. may God bless. sendmy love fromGreece
2nd day and I'm seeing blood in the round sponge thing that's placed around the insertion. Freaking out
Carolinakid1984. My mom haves blood also.. And she is scard. Is that normale please reply
Yeah it's normal they told me and after a few days the blood stopped but if it's pouring from the actual incision then definitely call your doctor
Carolinakid1984. Ok thank you
Samantha Mitchell no problem, is everything okay?
Great brev you are
Did u say cystic fibrosis, love you my child.
Hope u stay healthy.
I'm kind of irritated that they didn't just give you an infuser for your antibiotics because I don't know about you but on the days where I feel really really bad I hate having to give myself my infusion over periods manually I just hook it up to my infuser and get it done lol

Remember the word air embolism .
I just had one removed on the 22nd. I was in a rehab center, but only because my house was being refurbished. Not exactly the best environment for a PICC line. They finished on Monday, I went home on Wednesday.
Can you shower/bath with a pic line ?
Barbara Robinson Showering yes, bathing is normally not allowed but there are picc line protectors which you can buy on amazon for example and when you’re wearing one of those and take care to leave your arm and the line out of the water it works as well :)
Why isn't that line capped? Unnecessary infection risk
The cap on it prevents any kind of backflow and only syringes can open the cap up. No germs can get inside the cap unless you connect a syringe to it without cleaning it with alcohol first.
had this when I had Hyperemis w my 2nd pregnancy 😟
Tia Conley I am getting one tomorrow for Hyperemesis... I’m so nervous .
I just got mine in for hyperemesis
Learn about the medications u take through picc line.
Thanks for sharing this video
u need gloves and mask
brenda burroguhs
I thought that too...
