  • This video tells the story of Ava, a young, professional women who is struggling to find herself in the chaos of the modern world. In the midst of a mental breakdown, she is greeted by two reflections in the mirror. One reflection tells her the cold harsh truth about what she should be doing to get her life together. The 2nd reflection comforts her and tells her that nothing is her fault. Ava decides to repeatedly listen to the 2nd reflection, which sends her down a path of resentment. In the end she has no one to blame but herself.

Sadly a lot of things are actually others faults. Like when you hear people writing laws that are stupid, and then have judges who try and follow those laws and jail innocent people and let criminals go. Because the law labels them the opposite. And that makes it easy to feel like "They need to change. I would love to walk around and protest, because I am not qualified to hold the jobs of judges or law makers.".
But there is also always a good time to change yourself. Because that is something you can control, while everyone else being wrong is hard to change, even with protests.

@nuaveschannel I believe they used this particular personality type because there's a larger amount out there. My personality type is INTJ....they key is understanding at what point do we break down and fall into negative or self destructive patterns. Then how do we handle them. Certain factors need to ne looked at like health, financial hardship or anything that can magnify the situation. That takes accountability and understanding of WHY you're at that particular place in time. It can seem very dark but all you need is a little light to help people find their way out. @@o-townminideals3104 thank you for the nice reply but if they did this directed to intjs they did a very poor job at it. INTJs are one of the most introverted personalities if not the most introverted. They lead by Ni meaning they are more perceivers of the world rather then acting on it. Meaning it is very easy for an INTJ to get into a victim mindset as the world is always acting on them.
Also INTJs are known for being very disagreeable and having no problem making enemies. In socionics they are often regarded as the type of intellectual that says no to ideas rather then yes. Rather then an ENTP type who shotguns ideas, the intj is more of the nullifier of ideas. Making them again easy to get into a victim mindset. Last they are one of the most sensitive types depending on their variation. You look like an enneagram 1 style, you tend to be more durable. The enneagram 5 style can be too sensitive which can get them in a victim mindset. I am not a fan of this video that was posted.
BTW in Socionics I am an LIE a close brother to the ili (which would be the intj in mbti). In mbti funny enough I test as an ENTP but in socionics I am LIE most likely...though sometimes I wonder if I ili(intj)

There are reasons why people protest that have nothing to do with individual victimhood mentality, and everything to do with corrupt systems of oppression. I like that you brought up the middle ground because the character in the video was playing a victim and not taking accountability for the pain she was causing to herself and others. I just thought the protest thing was weird because it almost implies that people who seek community with activists are irresponsible victims and those who stick to conventional corporate jobs and obey their parents are somehow better and happier? But that's not always the case and often quite the opposite. That got a little lost on me.
Anyway just agreeing, that there's definitely a middle ground between taking personal responsibility and civil responsibility.

I mean, there’s a fine line to work here. Some things you really can’t change or other people make their own decisions that are not in your interest. The problem begins when you literally blame everyone else and don’t ever reflect on yourself.
But there‘s a reason why the „you are good as you are“-trope exists. Because in former times you had to conform to maybe what your father, family or husband (!!) wanted for you.
I feel we‘re leaning towards the other extreme now where „you only have to work harder and grind harder“ to improve yourself because EVERYTHING is your fault now. I‘m all for taking responsibility for your own actions, no doubt about that. It’s also in your power how you react to your circumstances at any given time.
I think the whole matter is not black&white. It’s complicated.

So do other things. We shouldn't play cards , but some people do have alternate barriers they have to navigate to be successful.

    • @brookethomas468
      @brookethomas468 Před měsícem +1

I don’t like their intentions for using it most times. Not to say race doesn’t always play a factor since it’s so visible and everyone is capable of prejudice and bias in their thinking (whether they are aware or not). Sometimes people will limit you based on your identity and their close-mindedness, but assuming every poor interaction is bc of your race only harms your motivation and locus of control and most humans need some sort of control over their circumstances. The slaves that didn’t give up started revolts. The blk people who didn’t give away their self respect joined the civil rights movement and forced others to see their humanity.
I personally don’t really care about the use of the “race card”, “wokeness” or whatever other term people use to describe certain activists. These movements only came about as a consequence of oppression. What goes around comes around. When you purge people for their sexuality, race and gender for yrs, don’t expect them to play to your tune for your or even their own benefit. They couldn’t care less about your respect bc to them, anyone who they don’t identify with was never capable of giving respect anyways. Not playing the race card should be about not giving up your power for fate.

You can’t just blame the world though, even if you have been dealt a difficult hand. You have to accept how things are and build from there. You might not be able to change the world, but you can change how you respond to the world. Acceptance can be a big part of that.
You shouldn’t have to put up with an over demanding and disrespectful boss. You do need to be able to provide for yourself and be responsible, but the implied social contract of living in a civilised society means you should be able to expect certain things too.

Absolutely genius. This is why I keep coming back. I've read and thought about this topic a lot. Especially over the last few years, as I came from the radical left and now think for myself much more.
I remember, as a burgeoning anti-feminist, finding that the biggest habit of feminism that I was having the hardest time rebelling against was the victim mentality: I was just a victim of feminism now instead of patriarchy and capitalism and so on.
I could see it. But it was - is - so very hard to stop DOING it.
When guys like Jordan say to just start by cleaning your room, I'm pretty sure what BC just explained (so much better than I've ever seen him do) is exactly what he means.
It's fascinating to me that the girl had it backwards. She was ignoring the harsh truth from herself, but trying to share it with others without their consent.
It's not that all activism is bad, it's not at all information-sharing is bad - for this video is an example of both, and clearly demonstrates that informing and preaching to people who are interested is not bad.
It's that we've been raised with the exact wrong attitude about where the radical honesty should primarily flow.
The primary person to be lovingly harsh with, to give the most tough love to and be the most honest with no matter how it affects feelings, is YOURSELF.
With everyone else you have to be diplomatic.
You can't just tell them whatever you want or they may shut you out. But if there's ever anyone that we need to actually listen to besides our own loving, supportive inner voices, it's really only the harsh truth from OURSELVES (the harsh truths about the world are far less important, if for no other reason than they are far less ACTIONABLE).
I've learned to think of that voice inside as simply my conscience, but I suppose it might be more complicated than that.
The way I think of it, it's the voice that tells you what the right thing to do is - the right thing for YOU, not the "correct" thing for some abstract person.
And doing the right thing is the only path to courage and confidence.
But it's not the right thing according to some damn ideology or religion. It's the right thing according to that character we just saw in *you*:
Your truest inner thoughts and FEELINGS about what you actually need to do to make yourself more useful for YOU and genuinely happy, healthy, and fulfilled, independent of the state of the world.
SO that you can then maybe turn around and be more useful to the world in an active (or even activist) capacity just like Baggage Claim just did so brilliantly and compassionately right here.
She was flying her sign for us to see and learn from in a way so radically different from someone who's screaming and chanting their rage from their life failing them...
...while doing nothing else to take any responsibilities for themselves or others in that life.
Someone who's attitude is secretly not "let's build it better" so much as "let's burn it all down".

I honestly interpret the two mirror personas as God and Satan. Satan will want you to think that you’re an exception deserving of “release” since you’re so special and other can’t see it, while God is calling you down the harder path in order to bring out the best in you. This is a phenomenal video which looks at the deeper parts of the human psyche and is going straight into my favorites.

I don't think it's that simple. Some of us have a victim mentality because we were victimized and wounded. That harsh criticism in our heads originally comes from people surrounding us in our environment, like school bullies, parents and teachers who humiliated us, tore us down, and made us feel like we were not good enough to exist. The victim mentality comes from the deep rooted need all of us carry to be loved, accepted and appreciated exactly as we are.

      @ADUAquascaping Před 3 měsíci +1

Tolerance and empathy only go so far. It's an assumption to always hold those as the highest virtues in every situation. They are not. Where did honesty go? Each one of us has the obligation to inform others of what they can work on, which is also a virtue. Being honest can be more virtuous than tolerating or enabling bad or harmful behavior. This is essentially the message of this video.
Obviously, I am not condoning abuse of any kind. Encouragement, praise, and constructive criticism are all appropriate.

As someone who struggled through this story himself, I can say that my experiences differed from the video in some significant ways. First, I had no kind reflection. My harsh reflection did not criticize constructively, it mocked relentlessly, giving no direction, only sadistic harassment. Overcoming it was a long struggle that involved flailing about for anything solid. The strategy that eventually worked for me was to take conscious dominance over my own mind, to lay down the law and say, "This mind is under my protection. You have no authority here." With that clarity, I found an internal compass. I didn't know where it would lead, but I knew I could always follow it, and no matter what situation I was in, it would lead me to something better.
It wasn't over, of course. The struggle has continued to this day. But over time, it has gotten easier, and I have made miraculous strides overcoming my crippling depression and anxiety, with no medication. Despite feeling this video is unduly negative toward protests and collective action, I wholeheartedly agree with the intended message: the way out of the victim mindset to an empowered life is through intentional personal change.

Spread your wings into multiple "communities" for a better understanding of the world and a better defense against it's evils. Well, yes. Actually this is a concern I have with the After Skool channel in general. They appear neutral but sneak in right-wing ideology when you're not looking. The right protests also, many things, many topics, so when this video mentions protesting it feels neutral--until you look closely at the protesters. Among the protest signs was an equal sign and the black power fist, very subtle way of saying Ava is wrong to fight for EQUALITY, which all Americans are supposed to have by law. This is right-wing ideology. The protesters are also left-coded by their blue hair and beanie caps. The protesters aren't blonde-haired with tiki torches nor are they in camouflage gear.
Other After Skool videos I've seen are like this, pretending to be neutral and wise but taking jabs at the left, either in the artwork or by picking apart leftist arguments without also giving right-wing arguments the same treatment. This is NOT a neutral channel, and I don't think they're trying to be one.
