  • This is the earthship built by Daren Howarth and Adi Nortje and featured on Grand Designs. A Groundhouse is a home aligned with nature. It design, supporting systems and materials are all chosen to work with natural powers and cycles. With the Brittany Groundhouse, architectural design is based on earthship and bioclimatic principles enabling the sun's energy to power the house, rain harvesting, and major use of both local and salvaged materials. Water and nutrients leaving the house are again harvested for growing food. The end result is a light, warm, zero carbon home that costs little to run and is very low impact.

I saw this constructed in a documentary a few years ago? now. very nice. how is the double basin toilet going though? I remember wondering about that whilst watching! My husband and I are building an earth house here in Australia and just wanted you to know that your bathroom bottle wall is an absolute inspiration to us in the design process. we learnt a lot about the earth homes, tyres and membranes from watching the documentary. thankyou!- ACROSS THE WORLD!
