Restoration of Ruined Modern Seiko Diver Watch

  • Come along on the journey as I restore a severely damaged modern Seiko Diver. ASMR, no talking.
    This is a Seiko SNZH55K1 powered by the 7S36 movement (case number 7S36-04N0).
    The watch isn't running. The balance is ok but the movement is seized. Some parts are missing, others incorrect.
    The movement is cleaned and inspected, then re-assembled and oiled.
    Case and bracelet get a full restoration and missing parts are replaced.

    Even if you only have two videos, I'm already making this a channel to watch. There's a guy from China on here who does maintenance/repair jobs on watches with the same techniques: no talking, no music, focus on the actual work, with natural sound. Hope you do more in the future.

      Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement! I truly appreciate your feedback on the photography and editing. Is that even the point

    • @DeadFlowersForDinner
      @DeadFlowersForDinner Před 2 měsíci

      Always does. However, it's the solitary pleasure of the 'before and after' that is prize for the watch maker.
      No one ever quite appreciates how much ocd detail goes into the servicing and restoration of a watch.
      The public generally don't have access to microscopes either, so they have no idea how disgusting their watches are when they bring them in.

    • @johnwang9914
      @johnwang9914 Před 22 dny +2

      True, but maintaining a mechanical watch is more about sentimental value than anything else. Let's face it, a quartz watch is cheaper and works better and with smart phones, you don't even need a watch anymore but you will appreciate a mechanical watch more.

    Welcome to CZcams! Beautiful work, looks better than new. It must be a passion of yours and you have all the right tools so you must be a professional? But is this watch restoration cost effective?

    • @ChronoWorkRestorations
      @ChronoWorkRestorations  Před 9 měsíci +3

      Thank you for the warm welcome! I'm not a professional, just a passionate hobbyist who enjoys bringing watches back to life. You raised a great point about the cost-effectiveness! This particular restoration wasn't financially wise, as the parts alone nearly equaled the price of a well-maintained piece. It was more of an experiment to see what could be done with a watch in such a bad condition. However, I have some upcoming projects like an Omega Seamaster Professional with rusty movement and a completely destroyed Tudor Oysterthin that make more financial sense. I appreciate your thoughtful question and wish you the best with your vintage car projects!

    Glad I found this channel. Great video.
    Couple of suggestions: I still have no idea what ASMR means, but rather than subtitles, I'd prefer you talked a bit over including history of watches. I don't get the idea behind watching silent videos. We aren't in 1920s anymore.
    I see that several parts were replaced and not directly mentioned - maybe it's worth somehow highlighting all the new parts. I personally don't mind new parts on old watch - for me the end result is more important, but some may want to see more original parts as possible to stay on the watch.

    • @ChronoWorkRestorations
      @ChronoWorkRestorations  Před 9 měsíci

      Thank you for watching and your kind words! Your suggestions are appreciated. While many enjoy the pure sounds of the parts and tools, I hear you on the value of talking. I might consider adding a bit of intro voiceover in some future videos. The idea of highlighting all the new parts is really nice - it's hard to discern from the video otherwise. Only what was beyond repair, missing, or incorrect was replaced. I'll definitely keep these thoughts in mind for future content. Thanks again for your feedback!

Have a large wrist and big hands so a bigger face watch always fits better. Outdoor more rugged styles in stainless or leather bands. But the large older Seikos and Omega always of interest that have thicker and or unusually shaped housings. 5he Stingrays and such something I like to wear. But any of the larger face Tissot like the Bond version and such also interesting to me to wear.

      It's not shown in the video but I used a staking set to hammer down the area around the center locking pin to tighten the clasp.

    I have a vintage Elgin Shockmaster that needs some help - would you be interested in working on it and making a video?

      Thank you for asking! Sounds really intriguing! However I have several projects already planned and waiting to be restored. My policy so far has been to only work on my own projects for several reasons. I'll unfortunately have to decline for now, but things may change in the future!

    $400 worth of work on a $130 watch. Looks good though!

      Very good point! This project made no financial sense. It was more of an experiment to see what could be done to a watch in a condition like this, while improving my skills with various restoration techniques. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you liked the end result!

    100 meters is not a diver watch

      Thanks for pointing that out! You're right, it's not a proper diver watch, more like diver-style.
