She started her blog, Accidental Icon, in September 2014 because she could not find a fashion blog or magazine that offered an urban, modern, intellectual aesthetic and also spoke to people who live "interesting but ordinary lives." Since then, Lyn has reinvented herself as an influencer of popular culture and promotes the use of fashion as a window into society and a vehicle to make personal and social change. Her rejection of age as a variable to be considered in how one dresses, lives and represents oneself has garnered her a loyal fan base of all ages.

Does anyone else find the trend to put background music in videos distracting and obnoxious?

    • @janeruge7396
      @janeruge7396 Před 2 měsíci +45

Yes it is very annoying and has the effect of influencing or interfering with the viewer’s interpretation of the spoken content by creating a “mood or added emotional context”. I have taken to turning off the audio and turning on closed captioning to read the content.

Probably depends on the compatability of the music to the message, don't you think? And the relative volume. I suppose that if you're aware of the music, it hasn't added to the video. Unless, of course, it's a music video.

72 here, and loving my old age every day. I avoid all stress, including the alarmist voices in the media, people who stress me out, and situations where I would be physically stressed as well. I think thats the key to happy old age. Just enjoying every day on its own.

Yes! Staying away from people who cause us stress! I just learned that at 65 and I’m so happy! In fact, as I walked by a man in the mall yesterday I said. “Hi, good morning.” He later stopped while I was eating in the Food Court and said “You made my day!” I’m happy and it shows😂 God bless you and yours❤

I hear that phrase more often than none lately- I avoid all stress. I just had a BD and can now say - I am pushing 70. I have two sisters that mention the same - one older and one younger- and I always wonder that when stress will come their way- and it will -how would they deal with it. My stress is sometimes the reason why, in minus 20 I put on my walking shoes and coat and head out for some fresh air and return much happier with a tank full of dopamine and serotonin. I guess I was just listening to my body and mind
Sometimes some people mistake my stress for anger, while I call it passion. So, with that said not as easy for everyone to avoid stress- I think it depends on the individual - some just make it part of the rhythm of life and others - just shut the door to it

I had Breast cancer in 2019 and arthritis for a long time now.
But I’m a tough old bird born during the WW11 with very little except a determination to survive.
I don’t dwell on my advanced age and continue to do what needs to be done with Gods help.

I really enjoyed this vlog. Thank you. You are an inspiration. Life is for living, and you know how to live it. xI am 70 this year. 2 years go I sold my house, gave my furniture and most of my clothes away and started travelling. Like you, I have just written my first creative book (still editing) Growing Old, Growing Free. Please allow a few words I hope your subscribers may enjoy...
I have travelled over 20,000 kilometres, met hundreds of incredible people, swam with turtles and danced in the rain, in The Rain Forest.
Drank from an ice glass in an ice bar, climbed glaciers, and marvelled at spectacular waterfalls.
I sailed on breathtaking schooners, crossed the Atlantic Ocean, limboed to steel bands and sang until I lost my voice.
I witnessed rain drops so huge they looked like giant diamonds falling from above, and rainbows that stretched the entire width of the sky.
I prayed in beautiful churches, chanted in magnificent temples with golden Buddhas, and grew both spiritually and emotionally.
    I have learned to forgive.
I watched the full moon rise over the water and shimmer on the ripples of the sea, reminding myself of those I have lost, and the life that I thought was mine…
Once in a while I have cried, but mostly I have laughed, and always, always, counted my blessings.
I have been strong and very brave, when I didn’t know I could be. I have learned to smile again. I am a new me.
    I am free.

I'm 65. My major in college was art, I was a mosaicist. I divorced young and with a child to support became a psychiatric caseworker. I ended traditional work at 55 due to health issues. Last year I wrote the first manuscript for a fictional series. I have so many other books clamoring for attention in my mind. I found my joy and my tribe. It is often hard to know what you'd like to do just for you. Especially if we have parenting or caregiver responsibility's. Our focus becomes paying the bills. If thinking of ourselves seems foreign to us it may take a bit of time. What did we dream of as children. What to we dream of during the night? Our subconscious remebers. Once we remove the clutter we find ourselves hidden within the rubble.

I'm greatly enjoying the aging process-now at age 54. My parents were very young when they had me (19 mom, 21 dad) and we lived on the opposite coast of where my grandparents lived, so I didn't spend much time with elders as a kid. I was always jealous of my friends who had grandparents in their lives. As I grew up, I was looking forward to "being old." I remember reading the poem, "When I am an old woman I shall wear Purple" and watching shows like "On Golden Pond" and "Fried Green Tomatoes" and "The Golden Girls."
My mother, who is only 19 years older than me, HATES getting older. She rants at the universe for all the issues of aging. She refuses medical care because she thinks that she shouldn't need it at her age (now 74). I feel bad that she is so miserable, but she also won't allow anyone to assist her as she is aging. I made peace with her decisions long ago and just make myself available to her when she is ready to get some help. It's like she is just hanging around and waiting for the grim reaper to come. She doesn't have to live that way, she is choosing it by rejecting everyone who tries to help. We hire housekeepers and she won't let them in to clean. (for example) I've also tried cleaning her home myself and she won't let me. She accuses me of treating her like an "old person."
Like, what am I supposed to do, take her out to the nightclubs and treat her like a college freshman? I know everyone says they don't want to become their mother, but my mother's life is not good. She'll tell you that herself. But, literally everyone who tries to help her is treated to a very nasty attitude. I hope to hang onto my kindness as I age, no matter how uncomfortable my body becomes. I also hope that I'll seek out medical help when it's needed.

I fulfilled a dream by backpacking around parts of the world ound the world for five months at forty five. Six years ago at seventy one and still living a happy, healthy, fulfilling life on the plane back from Australia I became unwell. Since then I have had breast cancer, temporal arteritis, lymphodrma in both legs, resuting in me becoming quite infirm, an umbilical hrrnia and lastly so far. Although attitude is a contributor to well being, health is also a major aspect. Someone here has shared their personal challenges and physical pain and loss, being the loss of the use or loss of control over the physical can be horrifying and frightening. It helps to have others who have experienced that to know there is a community and that others also suffer. A positive outlook can help but it will be a roller coaster and there will be extremely bad days. Best of luck to everyone!

I'm 72 and find it difficult to concentrate on what people are talking about with music playing. Also, it's easier when people speak at normal speed, rather than slow it down for CZcams. You weren't too bad in that regard, but some people I need to put on X2 to hear at a normal speed.
I knew, at 15, that I wanted to be a writer. :) Now that I've got the time, if health permits, to get off my butt and finish a book with my own characters, not those on TV.
Everyone starts writing fanfic, but after having a Star Trek book discarded after a year of consideration (new editor didn't want old stuff cluttering his desk) my agent said, "Create your own characters."
Good advice for writers of any age. :)

Either time went by fast or she aged fast. Yes, as we age we need to just go with the flow and high stress levels is a bad thing. I'm near 84 and not what was at 74 going to trail crews in the Sawtooth's of Idaho. Now I need to concentrate on thinking clearly and taking my time. I have a 5th wheel RV and it's not like just driving a Honda. Diesel PU and 30 foot 5th wheel and all the details that can go wrong. I need a young guy to go up top to clean roof and do any sealing necessary. :-) I walk or go to gym every day and love it and the social part as well. My wife is 69 and I think of her as a young chick. :-)

Lessening stress day to day is #1 on my list now in my 60’s while yet, still working full time in a very physically demanding career. I’ve raised a family and have always loved thinking one day I will arrive and be able to get enough sleep, read the book I want to read, see the concert or play I want to see, go to the place or spend time doing x, y, and z while maintaining life, work, household chores, etc., has always taken priority. Does there ever come a time where on has time for what one wishes one could do? Or is it really just a mindset and I’ve missed it all along the way?

Turning 70 next month, feeling similarly, I still think of future goals, traveling is a big one, wanting to stay fit and active. Age is just a number right. Having relatives who are active in their 90s is very inspiring for me, gives me hope that I have time to do more with my life. Best wishes ❤

If we are fortunate enough to age- there is a choice we need to purposefully make for our wellbeing. Attitude makes a difference. We ARE going to die. Nobody gets out alive. Striving to do the best we are capable of doing and allowing ourselves the benefit of knowing our limitations without condemnation is vital. We cannot reclaim our youth, but we can always strive for the best version of ourselves with kindness to ourselves and beyond.

@@13soap13 - Yup, my wife and I move in to Eddy Independent Senior Living at Beechwood, Troy, NY in 2015. Wife was 62 yo, DoB ‘53, me 63, DoB ‘52. Best real estate decision we made. This is an urban residence, so it has a 3x/hr city bus, M - Sat. We have a week day driver with access to a car or a bus. Downtown is walking distance. Best Farmers market in the region is downtown. BtW this is a cooperative so we have ownership and greater say in how things are run. Also dropped from two personal vehicles to one EV as there is a two port charger in the parking lot.

We all are listening to the horror of aging in the media, but it’s actually a privilege to get to old and healthy of course ,wisdom doesn’t come with youth ,enjoy life while we can because considering the age of our planet ours is pretty short ,so love, laugh,be passionate and caring we only get this one chance !

Take no thought for your life, cast your cares on the Lord and let go of worry and fear,.
He suffered what He did to free us from sin and death and He did it willingly for the Joy set before Him! There is so much to look forward to , this life in this body of dust is not
the end , it is just the beginning , have faith... all shall be well.

I have to say as a professional award-winning writer, who is also 70, what you say in this video is not the truth. And isn’t truth the essence of good writing? You are not the same person you were when you got your period, nor when you were a teenager, nor scrambling to survive in your 20s, or getting a divorce etc. I really would appreciate a book of real truth on aging, not some pop idea of agelessness.
