I got these from the CD-i version of the game almost a decade ago. These are the tracks as they were heard in the DOS version, besides the fact that DOS tracks were heavily sampled down and sometimes replaced sections by another loop, most likely to save space. The CD-i version is compressed as "MP2". (Yes, MPEG-1 Audio Layer II, not MP3.)
It's not perfect, but I'll take it any day over the official soundtrack album, which is actually re-arrangements that are disappointingly different:
• Track start & end points are (in my opinion) worse
• Citadel of Knowledge: extended with ambient intro/outro
• The Quest: one minute of ambient noises encroaching on music
• Main theme: the synth is replaced by singing, sounds mellower
• Amazonia: the singing is replaced by a synth
• Velociraptor Ride: shortened
• Undead Soul: synths replaced by odd singing, very different atmosphere
• Moorkus Rex's Lair, Uluru, Tamara: missing altogether
It might be interesting to make a DOS version of the soundtrack one day... perhaps I'll get around to it! - Hudba
Merci
Dude, you're a legend. Almost 30 years on, and i still remember this music and i still love it.
Je suis Stéphane Picq. Incroyable, merci!
Hello Stéphane, I am so happy to hear this! While I love my CD I would love to hear the remastered versions of Lost Eden too. Thank you so much!
This is really great to read! Every now and then I look for this great soundtrack, but I never thought it was possible that something would actually happen with it!
This confirms it, Lost Eden wasn't just a fever dream, it actually existed
Yeah, and I'm pretty sure most of the people here are glad it was real ^^
So my power item.... I mean... yes... yes that confirms it...
From reading these comments, it's obvious that Lost Eden struck a small group of people in a really powerful way. In my part of the world (Canada) Lost Eden was a game I found in the bargain bin one day and bought because it had dinosaurs on the cover. None of my friends were playing PC adventure games at that time - it was all about Super Nintendo - but I absolutely loved the game and music, so it was like my "secret". I remember waking up at 4AM to download the soundtrack through IRC because the only person sharing the files was in France. For a typical 90s kid living in a typical city, the game world and the soundtrack felt so haunting and dreamlike. These days, I read reviews online of people criticizing the game for its simplistic gameplay, which is all very true. It was more like an interactive movie. But people really downplay the value of an "interactive movie". There is definitely a unique experience in watching a world unfold at your command, it makes you feel like a part of it, in a way that a normal movie wouldn't. I bet every commentator feels like they went through this adventure themselves, that wouldn't happen with a normal movie.
thank you for already writing almost exactly what i wanted to say :P
I'm glad i found this ost here :)
Dinos are sweet bro
All games now are just interactive movies

I’ve been searching the name of this game for a really long time… I’ve played it almost 30 years ago when I was a child but I’ve never forgotten the soundtrack of this little masterpiece. Listening to it again after all these years brings me back happy memories… and I’m really glad I’m not the only one with these feelings ( 10:38)
Lost Eden was one of those games where an awesome story and atmosphere was hobbled by gameplay issues. That didn't at all take away from the story, though, and the soundtrack set the mood perfectly for it. Not ashamed to say I finished it simply to see where the story was going.

The music is the best part about the game because it's so atmospherical, haunting and upbeat. Other than that I will admit the game is epic and it brings back many nostalgic memories.

My son and I used to play this when it first came out! He was only young but it shaped our love of adventure games and this soundtrack is still something we both come back to. This is a great version and much closer to my remembering of the music. This was a great game and an uplifting one too where you learned co-operation. coming back in 2023 to my jam
I will always recommend this game's soundtrack to people that don't know about it. It's so unique - I can't think of another game with music that is at all like it. It complemented the game very well. Playing this game as a kid creeped me out a lot and the music definitely enhanced that feeling. Over time, I came to appreciate the music to be more than being just a good backdrop for the gameplay.
What about the old Dune game (1992) and the Atlantis games? The same composer. Though this album is uniquely awesome.
@@Mary42877 I haven't listened to those yet but I'll have to check them out for sure.
@@aplien5077 The ATLANTIS soundtracks are absolutely exquisite, just like this one. Stéphane Picq is quite the genius composer imo.
Just recently remembered Lost Eden, and finally learned that there was a superior CD-i version with much better audio quality.
I LOVED this game so much as a teen, especially because of that fantastic soundtrack which is still echoing in my head when I think back to classic games. And that means something.
Thank you for this upload. I wish someone would remaster the game eventually with modern visuals, original feeling soundtrack and more modern, but not genre breaking mechanics. Imagine this game playable in the current Unreal Engine 4 with its High Quality Assets from Quixel Megascans.
An updated game based on the Unreal Engine would be awesome!
My grandpa had the CD-i version, as a kid, it was nearly impossible to complete it :P
Somewhere, there is a world of dreams.
The Magnuficents is probably my favorite track. I think it is around this point in the game I remember feeling as if I've made significant strides in constructing citadels and rallying various tribes/dinosaurs together to fight Morkus Rex.

my god, this brings back memories!!! Awesome to hear this again after 25 years!
Always loved this! ”Ethnic electronica”. Very Deep Forest influenced, but that’s ok! Was a fan ever since I saw a demo of the (DOS) CD-ROM game on those magazine demo discs in the early 90’s. Actually, I think I still have it! 😀
Ha ha, that's exactly where I first heard and saw Lost Eden! I used to put the CD in and listen to the title track on repeat as we got on with stuff!
Forgot to reply here, but you've made me check out Deep Forest's first album, and yeah, I can definitely hear the influences and similarities! It's pretty good stuff. The second album wasn't really my thing though. Haven't checked out the others.
I still have the original cd and box it came in :-)
Thank you for this!! Been looking for the official soundtrack for sometime now. One that's not the CD version with all the synth samples replaced.

I played a short demo of this game when I moved to PC in 1996. No internet, no connection with world. Wasn't able to buy full version of this game so I played that demo over and over - primary for that soundtrack. That was a magic era with many surprises and good memories. It will never come back and today's teenagers with all that facebooks and smartphones 24/7 connected to internet will suffer from missing that feelings.

Just finished playing the game on the original CD-i (model 210/20).
It was a struggle cause the hardware kept finding new ways to fail: controller going into turbo mode for no reason, disc scratches, dirty lens, drive motor too dry to spin, spindle too low, spindle too high, timekeeper battery; you name it, I dealt with it.
Had it not been for this godly music and the magical atmosphere of the game it would not have been worth it, I'd have likely gave up after the first day of having to restart the game from scratch every 5 minutes

I stumbled into a youtuber who breifly streamed this game. Amazed by its strange combination of high-majestic fantasy with weird ugly characters. And then the soundtrack.... a very odd prog rock / dungeon synth combo taking elements from new age and early electro pop.

... and 10:40 of course
Wow, fucking goes hard on Elemental.
Would love to see this OST been remade or remixed. just to keep the memory. It inspired me so often in my works.
Played it way back in 1995 as a 11 year old boy on my CD-i. Second to this in case of soundtrack quality and inspiration was burn cycle.
Always wondered about the tracklistings. Shouldnt be the first track the theme and the fourth track be the citadel of knowledge? This two tracknames seem always interchanged. Even if it is offical, the titles make no sense for the actual tracks then.
Track 1-4 from the PC demo ... haunt me to this day
First-time listener here, but if you dig this kind of atmospheric music, check out the soundtrack of Drakan: Order of the Flame. It's uploaded.
My parents bought me this game when I was a kid to play on our PC since my father would play DIG, so they thought ah she likes dinosaurs so lets get her this so she can play something too. And Lost Eden Theme has stuck with me in my head since my childhood to my 37 years. I don't think any other game or movie has managed to mark me this way for so long. It feels nice to see others on the comments that feel the same.
I was afraid to play this game alone in the night when I was a kid... I feared that some stranger would break into my house and devour me like Morkus Rex might... I had the same horror feeling while I was entering the dungeons of the Citadel of Mo (especially when I watched the sight of the dead enbalmed human bodies with outstreched arms)... Yikes !
I had the same feelings when I was 8

Hey folks! The kind people at the Shooting Star label have let me know that the official soundtrack album (so, the rearranged one) is 40% off from Jan 6 to Jan 22, 2023 by using the code "ytlosteden" on Bandcamp! The CD also contains a bonus data track with a multimedia app featuring a track-by-track making of the album, a video of Stéphane Picq introducing his world and his music, and many illustrations and artworks from the game, by Jean-Jacques Chaubin.

Wow, that's crazy. I'm glad I checked the comments lol! Just ordered mine, thanks so much!
I just wanted to say I ordered the OST CD and it actually came with a cool extra win95 executable that came with a bunch of unreleased concept art and high-rez renders of in-game scenes. It was super cool lol! Let me know if you're interested in seeing them.
@@Jiggy... You should totally take videos of that and upload them to CZcams!
Sure, give me a sec to try and get a decent recording. @@MaxLebled_ALT
Absolutely love this game. I will make a video about it one day...one day... I just need to find the words. These words maybe: So Wonderful.

Thank you for this! I will look into it! The soundtrack to this game was definitely something special, I still think about it from time to time! @@StephanePicqDune
I only played the demo of this game, but that music...and setting it still strikes a chord. Cryo didn't really win much acclaim.
But they had their thing.
