I’am impressed with this truck, having owed an f-150 and a tundra. This is by far a lot funner and comfortable ride.
I absolutely love my ram, I saved $14 grand when I bought mine in 2016 vs a f150 with the same setup, I've always driven fords but now, I'm all mopar.

Next week on power nation. Project hemi hauler gets a transmission replacement.
And valve seats...and pistons...and a re-hone!
Jordan Lessard and trade it in for something else
Yup had to get my transmission replacement on my 2001 Dodge ram 1500 after 700,000 plus miles used it for towing and my daily driver for 18 going on 19 years
@@daltoneller4141 i like to lie in the youtube comments to
Yea sure ok I take great care of my truck I change my oil ever 2000 miles and I do standard maintenance when it needs it broke a couple of u joints before from over towing weight capacity but never had engine or transmission problem and if I make it to 800,000 miles I'm rebuilding the engine and getting a new transmission
Longtube headers would've really helped.
Or even shortys. I hate those restrictive factory logs
A less restrictive system all around.
Shorties are better for trucks and towing, they make more bottom and mid range power.
coils werent needed. Should have went with headers instead
Agree.
And a small performance cam.

That's a lot of work and money for the HP gains. Enough to make me want to look for a different project (if I were looking for one).
I own a 2015 Ram 1500 hemi. Great truck. Always wondered what drive train loss there would be at the wheel, given the 395HP number is at the crank. I was a little shocked to see 90HP loss at the wheel, though. I guessed maybe half that. I'd love to do this conversion to my truck, but the trouble is finding professionals near me who actually know what they're doing to do the work properly. The 126HP gain at the wheel was impressive. I'm guessing this voids the heck out of the warranty, but I'm past mine anyway. Looking forward to seeing more about how this truck turned out, and perhaps learning how much it cost to do the job.
Heard automatic trans causes around 25% parasitic loss and a manual 15%+ depending on clutch setup. Drive a 2016 Hemi and honestly don't have any complaints. Better than an 87 speed density f150. Lol
Hoping for a response, I have a 2016 Ram Rebel. 5.7L V8
I've already installed:
Sport AWE exhaust
S&B Cold Air Intake
Throttle body spacer
Diablo Tune with 93 octane tune.
I have someone who says he can install a "turbo kit 78 mm producing over 550 hp, comes with intercooler, exhaust manifolds, fuel pump, and headers" for about $4k. And new I'll need to install new fuel injectors.
Is this a realistic expectation? Is there anything else I should replace? Anyone have any idea what I should I expect as a result?
@@Miasaint10replace the junk cylinder deactivation system. And make sure its cooled enough. Also don’t tear the trans. Maybe tune it
Run file 06, "for the 3rd pull we got...."
Lol when you see it you know.
A great value! Only 20K for used truck (from a friend I'm sure) and another 10+k for parts.
Cam, better exhaust, intake and a bigger MAF, and a tune from Greene Racing seems like a better bang for your buck than 6000 for this set up.
I’d say a lot more safer imo with that . But where I live those well run me more than 6 grand lol
Do yourself a favor and DON'T use standard WD-40 on rubber parts! There are dedicated SILICONE sprays for this, and WD-40 actually makes a specific formula now, as well.
Yeah I was wondering who the fuck still would use WD40 for anything these days!?!
@@uncle_salty_3675 astroglide works waaaaay better doe
I usually just put a little bit of spit.
Fuel injector o-rings are made out of petroleum safe rubber. WD-40 is fine in this application.
@@aaronbritt2025 the rubber exhaust mounts is what he used it on
Not bad, you guys created your own SRT!
A modded vehicle and “stay tuned...” I see what you did there ;)
I've always wanted to get an older Charger with the 5.7 and upgrade it. I drove one when they first came out and was really impressed by their performance. However, I would much rather have a 392 Challenger with a 6 speed manual, but who wouldn't that's a Mopar nut?
Someone who wants to go fast! Next!
Surprised they didn’t replace the intake system. It’s already restrictive stock
While im not a fan of boosting modern hemi's unless there built for it, this kit looks like the easiest to install and a well thought out kit!
Why's that? Are the bottom ends weak?
@@Sebbaru251 Pistons in the 5.7 and the 6.4 are the weak link. 6 or 7 pounds of boost max, but still would swap pistons out for some peace of mind.
That comparison in forced induction is way cool. I always had turbo cars but want to try superchargers but didn't know to go with a roots or centrifugal induction.
Do those Dei titanium wraps have the same affect of the fiberglass ones to your skin as well? Or can you handle them without worry about getting all itchy
6000 dollar supercharger for 126 hp gain hahaha
That's HEMI for you.
Agreed but pulley size dictates that. Probably could run a smaller pulley for higher boost. This isn’t all out horsepower, but reliable power for a stock towing truck.
It runs really low boost, even with the bigger pulley they used and the blower itself is actually quite small. At best they're running 9psi. out of the box IIRC its like 5-6psi. If you're expecting the 200+hp gain that Mustangs and Camaro's are putting out (plus costs $2k+ or more), you're mistaken as these kits run higher boost and the blowers themselves have higher airflow rates.
$6k for a blower kit that is this easy to install, in a gas truck that is going to be used for hauling, is a damn good deal. I wish the $10k I paid for my 2.8L Kenne Bell kit for my S500 was cheaper, but the near 800whp its putting down more than makes up for the cost.
@@Welcometofacsistube open up the ring gaps and it will take way more psi...This type of kit seems more fitting for a leased truck
Dump the crap stock manifolds for shorties or long tubes and gain 50+ ho
Great way to start my day
The proper way to add boost is to use forged internals and lower the static compression and gap the rings properly and the right cam without too much overlap.
what was the factory supercharger numbers? with the default pulley that came with it before you swapped to smaller pulley and custom tune? that kinda changes everything i would think
I love the trucks. I see them EVERYWHERE. “Truck of the year” yep It sure was! I own a 2003 1500 5.7. Solid truck still! It has mods. Just right amount of power. It was raised a little bit (may lift it a little soon) it has exhausts, K&N air filter, power programmer kit. It’ll make a little over 400hp but even though it’ll make probably 415hp it feels MORE than that. That K&N air filter (it has a larger one) it’ll make it aggressive with the power. I give it just about half throttle and its already going 40mph. Awesome motor but they love fuel. They guzzle. Yep. Mine taking 93 octane all the time... well I’m lucky my local gas station around the corner from my home has good prices. I’ll never let the truck go more under a little under than half a tank. It’ll be 50$ each time I fill it which is... decent. I filled it up at MANY other gas stations of course. Most amount of money I put into fuel for that mofo is 70$... that was just about on E... the gas station down the road from my place is a Citgo by the way. I hate going to Mobil with the truck it’s more expensive. I have added just the right amount of power
To my 03 hemi. So damn good! Truck kicks ass.
What was the HP gains prior to installing the smaller pulley?
Uh where can u find that 2013 truck with 8K miles and a Cummins for $16,000 ???
They said its double that for a cummins....not 16k for a cummins
I'm first owner of a 2016 Dodge Ram 110.000km was thinking of installing a supercharger root style blower kit with your recommendation of a heat exchanger cooling system. I was wondering is it necessary to upgrade my fuel pump system and is my factory 8 speed transmission and differential 3.92 gear ratio too high kilometres for such a upgrade set up. My truck is a current daily driver I would like to have extra power when I need it on hwy for passing and down a quarter mile track for fun weekends.
Nobody beats the power of the Almighty Hemi Dodge. Dodge to the bone!!!!
Add 10hp just by getting rid of the mechanical fan for an e-fan. I can't believe something so new (2013) still has a mechanical fan. My 2009 F150 had an e-fan (I don't know when they started) I noticed better acceleration and mpg when I switched my 93 chevy to an e-fan, Quieter too.
The ram 1500 runs a dual electric fan setup and a clutch fan. I have a 2014 Laramie and it has both. Not sure why they run a clutch fan with dual electrics instead of just electrics but they do.
What about piston ring gap for boost? NA gap is smaller than FI due to less heat (because of less fuel). Rings expand with additional heat reducing gap. Either way sweet build, Gotta love superchargers!
What does it cost to get this stuff done? And where would you take it?
I’ve been looking at buying this body style truck for a little while now. For the same thing as well... to haul but nothing super heavy. I wonder if there’s a much cheaper way to get maybe 50-100hp gain?
cam, lt headders, exhaust, 6.1 or 6.4 hemi intake swap and a 93 octane tune should put you at around 450 ish
Swear that is my literal truck i have a 2013 ram 1500 5.7 hemi both mine and this are black, quad cab, dual exit exhaust, paint match bumpers, wheels, hell i even have the goodyear wranglers lol.... but got some more extras
I bought one brand new with the wranglers. Them things are junk. I would get flats from rocks. Switched to a 6 ply tire.
HAIL YEAH BRA!
bravo its a good job , but how much it cost such equipments ?
Honestly costs like no less than 6k to really do this upgrade ! So your call, I am looking into really putting some power into my ‘14 ram 1500 sport , so far just a flow master 40 series muffler, pedal commander and a K&N cold air intake...next I’m looking at getting 2.5 in lift, replace some old parts and then hopefully either cam it or get long tubes
If I could find a 2013 right now with 8000 miles for under 20k I’d be so damn happy 😢
This thing REALLY needs headers to open it up.
was installation of the supercharger really as simple as they made it seem? kind of want to do this to my ram now xD
@Southmadethis LOL my hemi dropped a lifter murdered the engine and I got a toyota! :D
How much would one of these systems be all in? I'm talking the supercharger and beefing up of other factory components to handle the power and tune as well.
30 grand
Decent channel with honest results by using a Dyno... the costs, especially the cost per horsepower would be nice to know. Interesting is that the 390HP rating for the push rod 5.7 is obviously at the crank and not SAE... which this dyno test showed to be 305HP.
If you pulled it and stuck it on a Dyno, you might get closer to that 390 rating. Even at the height of the Muscle Wars you never got the to the tires ratings, and even then they published Gross HP. No accessories.
I want the numbers at the ground. Installed with everything hooked up and turned on.
I bet edelbrock paid them handsomely to say it’s better than a turbo😂
Troy T they were paid to lie about the boost curve too!
To be fair, superchargers put way less stress on the engine than turbos.
@@DesertStateNevada Ask the connecting rods if they prefer the down low, sudden torque of a blower or if they prefer the torque in the upper rpm range. I'll wait here while you ask them quick...
@@5000BlueStudios Thats not really a problem with bigger engines like typically what American V8s are. But ask the oil system if they prefer a supercharger or a turbo. I'll wait here while you ask them quick...
@Roy Fokker Just like how those factory oil systems just love turbos
Low end power is what I need as I haul and do a lot of highway and am not looking to hit the drag strip or fry my trans
Did they try to shut the hood? The intake tube seems pretty high.
HEMI LIFE 🏁
Rust life 😂😂
That o2 sensor placement was painful to watch 🤦🏻♂️
While we’re swapping plugs, we’re gonna go ahead and upgrade the coils with our bottomless budget.
The way cars and pick up trucks are ran on the dyno is alien to me. When we run semi trucks on the dyno we run them. Sometimes for an hour or longer under full load if you are trying to recreate a problem.
So why the 6k pull after the swap instead of 4k when stock? Doesn't that throw some variables off?
Most definatly, it doesnt even reach the top of the gear until around 6k so they are missing out on rpm for sure
Shot in the dark here. Im looking to replace the 5.7 in my 09 Jeep commander. I wonder if the 5.7 in the 2013 ram 1500 would drop in?
Yes
Same displacement, so yes.
How is the fuel economy after installing the supercharger kit?
Are these the truck 5.7L that flattened camshafts because the lifters fail, even at lower mileage.
This shit was from 2010 get your head out your ass 😂
I got a 2017 dodge ram 1500 big horn. got a lift kit 3 in. running 33s on 22s. going upgrade to 35s. I have the super 10 muffler . what are some options I can do to get this thing to get up and haul ass. I still like to got fast and having it to sound good. im running all sundown radio system in it. would doing motor upgrades and stuff be a waste of money since I like the look and style of having mud tires and a lifted truck. thanks for any advice mopar for life
Awesome!!!!
Why didn't you upgrade the air intake? You did spark and exhaust, but left the air intake with basically stock just a new filter
I heard you have to get the ECM unlocked before you do any tuning?
2013? No. 2014+ yes
Cool episode, id live to put an edelbrok on my charger r/t
Wish you guys could do all this work to my Ram 😢😂
What size was the smaller pulley that you ended up using?
It hurts my wallet, just to watch an episode....
Awesome build, I hope the hemi has become more reliable and can handle the added stress of the supercharger. Should have replaced /upgraded the timing chain and tensioners while you were in there.
Motor is fine. The problem is the pistons. To meet epa requirements the rings had to be moved closer to the end giving it less "meat" making them a little more brittle if you have a detonation so you don't want to go above 5 to 8lbs of boost. by dropping in pistons you say to hell with the epa and you can boost the hell out of it.
They should have found a wrecked v6 Durango and put the electric fan in. Especially when turning a supercharger
Nice cameraman
Can I do this to my 2014 2500 with 205,000 kms ?
clutch fan takes about 14 hp away from the engine all the time.
an electric fan is waay better for on demand cooling.
oddly enough there is an electric fan in front of the belt driven one, for the a/c. The popular this to do is replace that fan with the electric fan from the V6 truck, it is a bigger fan with more CFM and then remove the shroud and belt driven fan altogether.
what diesel exhaust lol?,misspoke on the wraps hahaha. But good video guys.
Finally on you tube
Would have been nice to see torque curve comparisons since this is being planned as a towing vehicle.
Superchargers make torgue plain and simple. The seat of the pants feel wont be because of HP alone.
@@dalewhitehead5378 roots and twin screw, yes. If I recall, this was a centrifugal type which makes power and torque as engine RPMs increase.p
All these people talking smack probably dont have a truck or have one and dont use it for what they're made for
That same truck brand new now starts at 27k. Base model. And the new body style is 35k, base model. I wish the old days would return so I can buy five 20k trucks and resale them. Used is 25k now
2:46 right in between the operating the dyno can be dangerous a head concussion 😂
I miss the good old days, when you could use spark plug wires 😊
The thing is though, once you put a blower on, your going to need to beef up the trans and not to mention your probably going to blow the motor. It doesn’t make it a usable truck anymore.
Pretty much lol. Best thing you can do for a r hemi is a better cam with a tune and full exhaust.

Isn't that the engine that eats it's own rocker arm needle bearings?
Yes
😂 yes !
In 5% of vehicles normally due to excessive idling.
The people that are complaining. 1st they are doing it as if you had it and couldn't afford to go buy a diesel but the truck was paid for and you wanted to upgrade it. Hell, you might even like your truck. 2nd if you knew enough to look through the entire dino run, you'd know that the tq they're getting made a huge jump down low, this is not a car motor, it is made to get tq faster. If you had a truck you relied on for towing and getting to work, this boost is safe. You have a truck now that clears 400 hp and tq easy and you're getting more mpg as well as long as you're not standing on it all the time

Less than $20K for an 8,000 mile truck. Those days are long gone.
I'm so confused. I don't know anything about vehicles but if you take out the stock engine then doesn't that not make it a hemi anymore?
If it’s replace with another hemi it’s still a hemi but yeah if not
