    Without fail Sam shows his respect, admiration and love for his parents, mother especially. I pray she watches these and knows how much she is valued, loved and missed. I pray they can reunite one day and she gets to meet her grandbabies.

    I love seeing the joy in Sams face when talking about his childhood! You clearly had exceptional parents, with the proof of your kind heart. Thanks for sharing your story.

    Such a sad and nuanced situation. On the one hand, your kindness and decency is a testament to the goodness of your upbringing. On the other hand, your parents are involved in a destructive and imho, an evil cult. God bless you Sam and God bless your parents. Prayers for you, your parents and your sweet wife and children.

    The current mayor Donya Jessop is a colorful character. I attended a small seminar that she held a few weeks back.

    Sam, you are simply a really wonderful person, and I can't help but believe, no matter what, that your parents are very very proud of the fine young man you have become. I picture them watching this video and smiling the biggest smiles.

    Hi, i live in Paisley Scotland uk and I hadn't seen Mormons in my area for years and a couple of days ago 2 male missionaries turned up at my house and today 2 female missionaries turned up here, they were all surprised when I told them I had been in their church in my area many years ago at a friend's funeral 😊🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    You left us on such a cliffhanger!!! So excited for this episode!!! I love your channel and have watched every one of your videos. I really appreciate your efforts to be respectful of the FLDS people. I also have appreciated the evolution of your thinking, especially Sam's, as he has had to face the truth of how much the church has harmed people. I know it's convenient to assume everything went downhill because of Warren, and while that is true, I think there's been harm from the beginning. Melissa you are so incredibly intelligent and well versed in the scripture and I truly admire it. You were both such dedicated honorable members of your church, and I'm so sorry your church failed you. I was lucky enough to be the youngest child in my family, and by the time I was born, my mother's beliefs had evolved significantly from the way she was raised (Catholic boarding school from the age of 8). My father was protestant, but my mother wanted to marry in the Catholic church, so they were married in a very liberal Catholic church in a university town, and that is the church we attended in my early childhood. By the time I was 6 my parents stepped away from the church, and my mother decided to focus on the positives in Christianity, and disavowed the negatives. She told me she didn't believe that Hell was real, and encouraged us to follow the example of Jesus (ie. being humble and charitable and kind). I have always tried my best to be kind to others and to help those less fortunate, and I'm so grateful my mother instilled in me the values that she did. That being said, guilt was alive and well in our family, and I still struggle with how hard I am on myself. As a teen I almost joined the 12 Tribes of Israel in Vermont (I'd love it if you'd do a deep dive into their beliefs and communities) and did join a self-help type cult (Landmark Education... a pyramid scheme type organization based on EST) Also worth a deep dive! My interest in understanding extreme groups and why people join them or stay in them led me to watching documentaries on Mormonism and that lead me to your channel, and then your channel lead me to Cults to Consciousness and Amanda Rae and the list goes on. I so appreciate your vulnerability in sharing your own experiences. While at times I think you forget the express the same empathy you have for the FLDS and LDS church when covering other groups (for example being so shocked by the use of substances in a recent cult you covered), but I understand that drugs/alcohol (even caffeine) were huge no-nos in your childhood. You seem like incredibly lovely people, and your friends and family are lucky to have you in their lives. Thank you for the work you do behind the scenes to help members of your community to escape, and for humanizing the followers who are just trying their best to do the right thing. Lots of love from Vermont.

    Most of the events in my town growing up didn't happen at our town hall. We voted at the school but scout meetings/ 8th grade graduation was at the community church. I think it is less of the community gathering place now.

    I said this on another video but i'll say it again. Tell Mike to get a deadcat (i swear to god that's what theyre called) for his mic, theyre those furry things that go over the mic and they help reduce wind noise.

    A lot of people dont know that you can get married at 15/16 with a parent signature in the state that i live in that is Mississippi and few others. But anyways Short story I don't know a lot about the mormon church, but I do know they saved my sisters life at the time, She was going down a really bad path. The lady's from the church was amazing to her and her children. I met a few Christmas that year. I could feel the love from them for my sister. They was trying to show her that there's more to life then what she was living ive never seen my little sister so proud in my life then she was at the time she was going to the church The sad thing is She's no longer going to the church. God knows I wish she was. I don't know what happened exactly but i think one was her husband got out of jail and the young Gentlemen that was coming to her home their time was over and they went back home and now shes worse than ever i asked her to call the church where she was going for years now she won't so the only thing that I can do is pray

    I’m so sorry to hear you don’t see your parents much.. I live in Southern Utah and well versed in the FLDS community. That area is definitely changing. I’m sure it wasn’t long ago that you wouldn’t be able to film in that location. And would be booted ( kinda) out of town. Good luck in the future. Love your content.

    I have a random question 😂. Is it more common for the father or mother to pick the names of their children? Additionally is it a requirement that children are given religious names or is it up to the parents? Would it be frowned upon for someone to be given a cool like non-religious name? Seen so many unique names within the FLDS and have always been interested in the naming of the children.

    • @GrowingUpinPolygamy
      @GrowingUpinPolygamy  Před 3 měsíci +1

      In my experience, it seemed that the mothers and fathers would have a say in the name of their babies. The father would make the final decision. Most names are from scripture or people highly respected in church history. This was done out of respect for those names as well as hoping that your children would live up to those names in righteousness. I hope this answers your great question. 😊

      @@GrowingUpinPolygamy Thank you for your reply! That's interesting, would this result in those who are named after someone who is of the greatest importance in church history feeling superior to others do you think? Sort of bragging that they were named after someone so important? Do you also think that women who have named their children Warren and have now left the church may have a regret of naming them after warren jeffs?

      Sam has said in the past that he remains very close to the family that took him in when he initially left the FLDS, and that those parents act as surrogate grandparents to his kids. It's of course not the same, but it's wonderful that he and the kids have that support in their lives (and, I think, a testament to Sam's character that he has forged that kind of lasting relationship).

      I believe everyone had the chance to vote for presidential and local leaders. I don't have personal experience with that because I left the same month I turned 18. I just remember seeing voting booths set up at City Hall for people to vote.

    Sam always says FLDS communiTy 😂 that hard T when most people say it like a D.
    I was watching the FLDS official hairstyle video on CZcams and the FLDS narrator also never uses the soft D/flap T sound. (Like in butter or community.) is that an FLDS thing? To always clearly pronounce your T’s and never use the soft D/flap T?
