I played Donkey Konga a lot as a kid. Playing it the conventional way always annoyed my parents to death, so I figured out how to play it virtually silent. You could just depress both bongo buttons without slapping them, and to clap you'd just lightly tap the side of either bongo. It would produce a sharp enough noise for the inner microphone to interpret it as a clap. As such, the Konga continued on...
I was lucky, we were in our 20s when donkey konga came out and it would be part of the random hangouts with friends. 2 player mode was a huge hit, be as loud as we want. I can’t believe this came out before guitar hero, so good.
Whenever I play Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, this is how I play it. Sure, you can beat on the bongos like they owe you money, but playing it silently is the way to go.
And when there's those parts where you're supposed to clap as much as possible, you can blow air on the mic in between the bongo drums. It would register like 300 claps and I felt like a video game god

First time I've ever seen someone talk about Jungle Beat and I'm so happy This game was amazing, I wish I still had it because my past baby self just could not understand even a fraction of the awesomness of this game (and also how to play it correctly) It kinda had the same vibe as that one Mario kart but actually it's Donkey Kong game where to advance you had to swing the controllers one by one in the right rythm, this one was also very fun (and somewhat physical). But Jungle Beat was just so awesome it doesn't even come close to it
I only played jungle beat once, and it changed my life, that's when I fell in love with games and decided to become a developer. I've loved weird controllers since that day

Jungle Beat is unironically my favorite DK game. The music, the levels, the vibrant colors, the rhythm of gameplay, the bosses, everything was so fun and well-tuned. Would love that studio to make another DK game some day.
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat was my absolute favorite game to play as a kid and I bought it new with bongos because I didn’t even know until last year Donkey Konga was a game. What a masterpiece. Seeing the boss in the background truly was an “oh shit” moment.
In all honesty, I havent played a donkey kong game in about 20 years. Watching this series has opened my eyes to how deep this franchise actually is. All thanks to Dunkey’s talent for story telling.
Donkey Kong jungle beat was probably the first game I beat multiple time as a kid in elementary school. Trying to getting those platinum rankings, gave me my love for trophy hunting today
I played Jungle Beat so much that I wore out three of the four bongo drum controllers my parents bought me & my siblings to play Donkey Konga. Love both of 'em to bits.
Jungle beat will always hold a special place in my heart. It came out when I was six and I've been playing it ever since. Its such a fun and unique game that is a lot of fun to play and speedrun. The bosses; while repeated, never get old for me. This game will always be a 10 out of 10 for me baybeeeee
This game was truly the first in the genre of “strand type, open zone bongo clapping” that would shape the game industry as we know it today. Thank you GreenDay.
I don’t know how they’d do it but I’d actually love to see a remake of Jungle Beat. Perhaps it uses joycon motion controls like the Wii version but with DK bongo conpatability for those who have them.
I unfortunately can't see it happening, but I'm fine with it. I'll do my yearly replay of this masterpiece till I die Maybe if Mother 3 finally comes out when GBA comes to the Switch...
Both Super Mario Galaxy games and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat are so much alike. They even used the same exact sound effects from 4 Zelda games, including The Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Link's Crossbow Training and Skyward Sword!!
Thank you for being a modern day Video Game historian. Opening my eyes to so much I never knew and paying homage to the great developers and studios that brought us and continue to bring us so much joy!
This game ‘Donkey Kong Jungle Beat’ reminds me a little bit of the videogame Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. I can definitely tell the developers of Donkey Kong Jungle Beat took some inspiration from the videogame Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, you should review that game
One of the few who owned and loved this game at release. Combo and high score chasing was brilliantly designed. The movement fit the design perfectly. Never really put together how much galaxy borrowed. Man those swimmiable floating water/jelly islands in JB were so cool.
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is literally the most amazing Donkey Kong game to this day. Musics are absolute masterpieces. Gameplay is top notch, lots of replayability, very hard to master and easy to learn. Graphics are gorgeous, it aged like fine wine. And for the last bit... It's the closest feelings you'll have from being a JoJo character punching people down.
I played this so much as a kid, I can still feel the sting from the bongos. Jungle Beat is my favorite Donkey Kong game and one of the most fun games I've ever played on Gamecube
One of the coolest gaming memories I have is getting gold medals in all the levels, playing one again on a whim and racking up an insane multiplier, then getting a platinum medal. Realising that there was that much potential for score multiplication that there was an entire tier of medals I hadn't even seen despite beating the game showed me what a refined and polished experience it was.
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is one of my favorites, so I'm glad you're showing it some love! Can't even tell you how many times I replayed that banshee level with the floating fireballs just to listen to the music. My parents HATED the game though because I played those bongos like that guy that spanks cats.
I was really really hoping dunk would talk about this game, very nostalgic to me and genuinely extremely underrated, it's a mastapiece in my book and it's awesome seeing it have some spotlight
Jungle Beat gave me such a unique feeling playing it as a kid, such an insanely different game from anything out there. I still remember that and the Donkey Konga's very fondly. My mom hated me for clapping all fucking day though.
I remember playing jungle beat till 4 am and I was literally drenched in sweat. I woke my mom up to ask if I could use my parents’ shower and she was quite confused. Such a fun game
Man, I played Jungle Beat with my brothers a ton as a kid! Had the bongo controller and everything. I don't remember too much about it, but I do know I sucked pretty bad at it. Video brought back some fond memories
I loved jungle beat I actually have a copy in my car that I take with me wherever I go it's the wii version but it still functions all the same, it was a big part of my childhood and oh boy this game just had so much action, that everything you did felt like a really big deal, the boss fights because of this always felt high stakes, life or death. I think that's part of what makes games like these so special. As a kid, just the mystique and stakes of a game carving out a place in your brain and living there I think is what really makes a game an experience and not just a game and donkey Kong jungle beat is just that.
1:22 I remember dunkey using this song in one of his League videos and it's crazy to me that, all these years later, I'm only just now finding out what it's from- on the same channel.
It's a crime against humanity that children will no longer experience the anxiety of playing this game at night while also trying not to wake anybody up
no its not, i think its only natural the creators of mario galaxy, mario galaxy 2, 3d land, 3d world, mario odyssey would also go on to create Donkey Kong Jungle Beat ™
this game went hard a decade and a half before 'goes hard' was even a term. the bosses, minigames, and even the 'basic' gameplay made you feel like Chuck Norris with how much you destroyed and bent this world to Donkey Kong's whims
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat was made back in a time when we didn’t ask many questions. As a kid you just kind of knew if a game was good or not regardless of da bongos you played them with.
Today, I learned that Donkey Kong invented the entire game industry we know today
It truly is the first Jennifer Lawrence type game.

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat was my absolute favorite game to play as a kid and I bought it new with bongos because I didn’t even know until last year Donkey Konga was a game. What a masterpiece. Seeing the boss in the background truly was an “oh shit” moment.
Q*bert was truly ahead of its time in its fish mechanics
Donkey Konga being the og guitar hero get even more awesome when you realize that people used the controller to beat dark souls like a legend
Ah, a fellow Lenny fan
In all honesty, I havent played a donkey kong game in about 20 years. Watching this series has opened my eyes to how deep this franchise actually is. All thanks to Dunkey’s talent for story telling.
Donkey Kong jungle beat was probably the first game I beat multiple time as a kid in elementary school. Trying to getting those platinum rankings, gave me my love for trophy hunting today
I played Jungle Beat so much that I wore out three of the four bongo drum controllers my parents bought me & my siblings to play Donkey Konga. Love both of 'em to bits.
I played this game as a kid and completely forgot about it until this video. Actually felt the neurons in my brain reconnect the memories.
Same
Jungle beat will always hold a special place in my heart. It came out when I was six and I've been playing it ever since. Its such a fun and unique game that is a lot of fun to play and speedrun. The bosses; while repeated, never get old for me. This game will always be a 10 out of 10 for me baybeeeee
Very underrated game DK Jungle Beat. Playing it on the Wii was something sublime.
Genuinely one of the best and most intense platformers of all time, like this game was epic especially the storming the castle stage
You don't actually have to clap in the rhythm game. My friend found out you can just tap the side of the bongos and it registers exactly the same.
And for the long clap tracks just blow into the receiver.
This game and the mini games in Mario Party (for N64) were hell on your hands.
@@dravenation8428 I still have blisters from that mini game with the boo and the bicycle powered lightbulb.
This game was truly the first in the genre of “strand type, open zone bongo clapping” that would shape the game industry as we know it today. Thank you GreenDay.
This might be the most educational Dunkey video I've ever seen. That SMG reveal was mindblowing.
I don’t know how they’d do it but I’d actually love to see a remake of Jungle Beat. Perhaps it uses joycon motion controls like the Wii version but with DK bongo conpatability for those who have them.
I unfortunately can't see it happening, but I'm fine with it. I'll do my yearly replay of this masterpiece till I die
Maybe if Mother 3 finally comes out when GBA comes to the Switch...
Both Super Mario Galaxy games and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat are so much alike. They even used the same exact sound effects from 4 Zelda games, including The Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Link's Crossbow Training and Skyward Sword!!
I adored this game as a kid. It really kinda shaped my aesthetic even unto today.
Your aesthetic? The game changed the way you look?
@@TexasGreed seriously, they don't even hear how cringe they are when they think this shit.
@@TexasGreed don't question it
@@TexasGreed That's the power of great art.
@@TexasGreed He's naked and only uses a red tie!
This series legit might be Dunkey's best work yet, absolutely phenomenal videos. Can't wait for the Retro games video.
Thank you for being a modern day Video Game historian. Opening my eyes to so much I never knew and paying homage to the great developers and studios that brought us and continue to bring us so much joy!
This game was unironically my childhood. I’m so happy it is getting a dunkey review
Man those swimmiable floating water/jelly islands in JB were so cool.
even the game engine is basically identical between the two games
How Dunkey connects the unknown dots with creative editing and personality… he’s a genius
I used to practice speed-running jungle beat before I even knew what speed running was. This game was truly a masterpiece
What's most impressive is that this entire episode was edited using the bongos.
Thanks for uploading this in time for your bi-annual tradition of celebrating Funky Kong February, always my favorite part of the week.
Jungle Beat was my JAM. Coolest boss fights in the series with the Kong masters.
Getting to watch this series is like being gifted a master's lecture on video game history and culture. Dunkey, there just isn't anybody like you.
donkey kong december really blasting off
This game has no right being as good as it is.
I played Jungle Beat so much as a kid and I never even thought about how much of its mechanics were lifted into Mario Galaxy, Holy shit
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is one of my favorites, so I'm glad you're showing it some love! Can't even tell you how many times I replayed that banshee level with the floating fireballs just to listen to the music. My parents HATED the game though because I played those bongos like that guy that spanks cats.
I had Jungle Beat but never played Donkey Konga. Fun game. Cemented Donkey Kong as my favorite Nintendo character
I LOVED donkey kong jungle beat. I would replay the boss fights so many times because they were just so good.
I was really really hoping dunk would talk about this game, very nostalgic to me and genuinely extremely underrated, it's a mastapiece in my book and it's awesome seeing it have some spotlight
This line of donkey kong videos have all been great.
I used to walk to my local Target just to play the Donkey Konga demo. Never had it myself. When they took it away I was devastated. Great times.
I loved jungle beat with all my heart, for its time it was super underrated and I wouldn’t mind a remaster of it or a remake
Freaking love the Donkey Konga games, got 1&2 and Jungle Beat still
Jungle Beat gave me such a unique feeling playing it as a kid, such an insanely different game from anything out there. I still remember that and the Donkey Konga's very fondly. My mom hated me for clapping all fucking day though.
I remember playing jungle beat till 4 am and I was literally drenched in sweat. I woke my mom up to ask if I could use my parents’ shower and she was quite confused. Such a fun game
played Jungle Beat so much growing up. Possibly one of my favorite games.
The Donkey Kong arc is one of the better arcs in the entire series.
You can tell how good these videos are, when you try to hit the like button but you realise is already pressed
I am loving this year's DKD. These videos are really showing off Dunkey's ability to be verbose and erudite.
Underrated gem. Loved this game as a kid.
It's a crime against humanity that children will no longer experience the anxiety of playing this game at night while also trying not to wake anybody up
For me that was NSMB Wii, my dad is the lightest sleeper on earth and the sound of the Wii even just booting up was enough to wake him
Jungle beat for the Wii was the first donkey Kong game i ever played and i loved it to death even though it was exhausting lol
I was not ready for the end of this video, that was a mind-blowing history lesson right there.
no its not, i think its only natural the creators of mario galaxy, mario galaxy 2, 3d land, 3d world, mario odyssey would also go on to create Donkey Kong Jungle Beat ™
Came for the meme, left with respect & knowledge.
this game went hard a decade and a half before 'goes hard' was even a term. the bosses, minigames, and even the 'basic' gameplay made you feel like Chuck Norris with how much you destroyed and bent this world to Donkey Kong's whims
i actually didnt know jungle beats wasnt very liked.. I LOVED that game. the bongos were awesome.
I’ve seen people turn them bongo’s into midi beat machines… 👌
Yo that’s sick
instead of clapping you could tap the side of the drums! I learned this by playing when my parents were trying to sleep 💀
This is the best Donkey Kong game out there, no doubt of that in my mind.
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat was made back in a time when we didn’t ask many questions. As a kid you just kind of knew if a game was good or not regardless of da bongos you played them with.
