- Out on the road I ran into Roger, a "home-free" American with a dream to travel around the USA and raise awareness for Ostomates through his nomad lifestyle. Roger rides a converted 26" mountain/eBike, pulling a trailer that houses his 200 Watts of solar power and a place to store his gear. He doesn't travel alone though... his cat Phideaux comes along on every trip.

This guys fantastic. He’s overcome so much in living the way he wants. Good luck to him.
This guy is "ultimate cool". Talk about someone who can play the cards they were dealt!
He
Thanks for saying that, John. Some of the hardest parts of my travels are dealing with the people who judge me before (or instead of) talking to me. This is a shame, because I have some interesting stories to tell those who stop to talk.
@@RogerGolden2016 Hi Roger. I wouldn't concern myself with them. You're 1 of a kind; they're a dime a dozen. They'll never know what you already know - what freedom and adventure really mean.
i am no longer able to maintain a living wage as we are in the same boat . mine is due to many strokes i have had 5 in the last6 yrsall due to uncontrolable blood pressure
This gentleman is to be truly admired, not letting health issues get in the way of what he loves to do is an inspiration to all of us.
Roger is finding a way to make ‘lemonade’ from the lemons that he is faced with. Great story.
Thanks John. I appreciate hearing that.
I have recently bought a 150,w plug & play, solar bike kit folds down to 12" x 8" x 3,5" carrying case I intend
to use in the same way. Travel is so expensive & need't be. No hurry, just enjoy the scenery. I can drape it
over my trailer & charge on the run or hang in up in camp. Not hard to find also someone who'll let you charge
for a spell too..
Free as a bird. I sometimes think I would want to do that, then a thunderstorm rolls in and I am thankful I have a roof over my head 😀
That was very interesting. A man who has health issues but they don’t rule his life
This guy is living his best life.... Inspiration at it's finest.
Thanks for doing an excellent job on this video Mike! And thanks to everyone who has responded, here or on my facebook page! It means a lot to hear people's kind words and best wishes.
Hi Roger! I'm just now seeing Mike's video featuring your story. It's a year since it was posted. I hope you & your cat are doing well. When I go out on my e-bike I know I'll be thinking of you. I'll be surveying my surroundings and saying to myself "where would Roger camp if he was here enjoying this ride?
@@rossmacintosh5652 I have been to California and back across the country to Tennessee since that video was made. My trailer and solar system are different now.
Thanks again for the interview you where in my town when you made this . I was on a motorized bicycle touring Florida to California and back.
Talk him out of it ok , fla is nice & you won't freeze .
This is a great trailer design for 200w solar in a tiny space, and still carry everything useful.
God bless take care of your self interesting story ... stay safe 🚴🚵🚴🏿♂️
Thank you!
Wow..great story..did you just stumble upon him at the dog park..we found this vid both inspirational and motivational..a great interview l..thanks so much!
Yes, we met by chance. I had been dealing with weather issues (winds in my face can be a huge problem) and stopped at a (to me) random park with a powered Pavillion where I could plug in for a bit. Mike arrived, saw my rig, and had questions. This video came from that.
Wow he is living the dream, i aspire to be as free as he is
I just missed him. He reported getting into Mississippi yesterday. We live about 10 miles North of Grand Bay, AL, where he passed through. Will follow him on Facebook. Thanks for sharing.
I am spending the Easter weekend in Walker, LA, just East of Baton Rouge.
@@RogerGolden2016 thanks for the interview 💯 I building a live channel for motorized bicycle touring and bikepacking.
Sorry I missed you on the tour I went there and back and didn't see you . I posted the trip on my other channel .
Loved seeing his set up! Love is RV and that he loves his cat so much to travel with him.
It is definitely a one-of-a-kind rig. At times it takes a lot of work to keep it all going, but other times I get to enjoy the open roads in ways that very few people ever get to do.
Loved this special “on the road” interview!!
beautiful story, I love the home free name. it's a new I'll start using.
Thank you Mike, this speaks to your character and kindness to others.
GO RODGER
What a great piece...
I think Mike did an excellent job with this video.
Thanks for doing this video. Story of him and his cat sort of reminds me of “Street Cat Named Bob”, series of books and movie mostly popular in UK. I do wonder what Roger does with cat when he encounters bad weather.
We shelter and wait it out. Phideaux sleeps in the tent with me most nights, but sometimes she "stands guard" outside.
Of course, Phideaux is a cat, so her idea of standing guard is "If you see me running, you better run too."
I agree with others, this is an interesting story. I would welcome other videos like this.
Very different that’s for sure.
Thanks Mike... that was a very warming story.
Thank you for sharing this story of Roger.
Thanks Mike. A most interesting interview with Roger. We wish him safe travels.
Y'all Be Safe!
Thank you!
Awe, pretty cat , wow ,nice bike set up , baby don't go to California its not safe there & you will freeze !,
Thank you Mike, wonderful interview! Praying for Rogers safe travels. 🙏
Thanks!
Thank you Mike, Loved the video!!
Thank you man. Stay safe with your wife
This is a great video. i appreciate it and will keep up with Roger.
WOW! Great interview. God bless him. Thanks for sharing! Following him on FB!
The more things you own, the more things own you.
Exactly.
Great story... Thanks !
Nice design and function
Interesting story stay safe and happy traveling
Thank you!
A very interesting fella. Thanks for interviewing him. I wish him and his kitty a safe and healthy trip.
Thank you!
Great video.
Great interview
An amazing setup for his home free life, is this at Liza jackson park?
Prayers for Roger for a safe trip and many fabulous adventures 😁👍🙏💖
Fantastic!! The world is your oyster ...
Love it!!!
This looks like something I would be interested in doing one day.
This is amazing. I wish i found about this person earlier
Following you is like reading a good book! I have read many good books on people traveling cross country! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸‼️👀👀👀
My next adventure....💚💛♥️
If someone knows how it would be humanity at its best to setup a Go Fund Me page for him to get his reverse operation.
That would be awesome! I would donate. Don’t know how to do a page like that. I’ll donate if someone sets it up.
@@sundanceblue21thomaswelch26 i don’t know how to set it up either, but maybe Wendland’s tech guy does.
I would love to donate too. Feel sorry to him. Without good health, it is hard to travel alone.
@@joannec2153 No need to feel sorry for me. I'm just a guy doing the best he can with what he has to work with, just like everyone else. The difference is that I chose a unique lifestyle before my surgery. And yes, it can be hard with an ostomy. the medical accessories I MUST have are expensive, not available in mainstream retail outlets, and crucial to my existence.
Don’t see his info below?
I want to do something this from New York down to New Orleans.
You should get a recumbent trike ,there alotmore comfortable to ride.
He has no money. They are expensive, even used.
Oh shoot I’ve been waiting to be able to drive to do this….this is super attainable right now. I’d love to know where he pitches his tent at night/ what he does with the solar panels when it rains. I have a spinal disability but an electric bike should be fine since I won’t have to pedal as much
Did Bo chase the cat?
I wanna do that so much with my ebike
God bless this wonderful man and his wonderful cat I wish him more freedom health and goodness I want to be like him 1 day 1 luv Ameer Reemabeets age47 NYC the hellhole of earth
Were you using strictly solar power?
Is there a way to contact this individual for as I am planning of conducting the same trip?
Is it 2 300w panels?
No, those were 2 100W panels. My current set uses 8 30W panels arranged in 2 120W packages that fold up into portfolio-sized packs. Solar power handles all of my energy needs when touring now.
1:46 Chewing on a CIGARETTE? Why the serious Health Problems? 🤷♂️
Oh the Smells coming off this guy. He's Nuckin Futs
He can deny it all he wants but he is homeless.
Human language is limited. One word cannot describe full situation of this man. He is defenately living his live.
He is a chronic bike packer.
Hes homeless by choice aka "home-free" he would qualify for section 8 free housing if he really wanted an apartment.
@@AB-kg6rk nobody is homeless by choice
Hmmmm. If he's not paying taxes, seems I'm supporting him.
I do not receive ANY form of public assistance. How are you supporting me? I've worked my whole life and CONTINUE to work while on the road. Unless you have sent a donation through PayPal or Cash App of your own free will, you haven't contributed anything to my travels at all. I resent you thinking that you have a claim on my freedom. Attitudes like that are the hardest thing I have to face on a daily basis, and like yours, they are groundless.
@@RogerGolden2016 Do you use public roads? Do you use public restrooms? How about county or state parks?
@@capswin You mean the things MY taxes pay for? Yes, I do,. Having been (note the present participle) paying for those things for the past 40 years, I feel as if I have a right to what I have paid for. I am sorry that you don't feel that way.
@@RogerGolden2016 I thought that you said that you don’t pay taxes.
Have a nice day capswin.
