    You could probably optimise the way the motor drives the wheel. Also, it might be a good idea to implement regenerative braking.
    Edit: I have another idea to further optimise this thing. Install a solar panel on top of the person riding the bike, so that you can generate more electricity and provide some shade to the rider. Also, getting the panels higher could get them more sunlight.

  • @DeSinc
    @DeSinc Před 2 lety +49

    I'd really like to see one of those panels just mounted to the back above the rear wheel, in that spot where a tray normally goes on those bikes with a thing on the back. then put on a better hub motor and see how far it can go in the sun. maybe with some thoughtful placement you could even manage to mount a 2nd panel somewhere else but I can't think of a good spot.. front of the handlebars is just way too sketchy imo. when you showed the top-down drone shot the obvious spot seemed like on your back, like with a backpack or something. would need to build some angled assembly to face it straight up not at an angle though

  • @justinw1765
    @justinw1765 Před 3 lety

    Nice, quick, proof of concept. There are so many ways a person could make this far, far more efficient. For some examples. Use a good quality, in wheel hub motor. Use the thin, flexible, lighter Solar panels, and connect them to one trailer made out of a composite of EPS foam, fiberglass, a thin plywood top layer (to screw into etc), and Titebond III glue, and use two bike tires with low rolling resistance.
    Create a fairing for the bike itself, and/or a bubble windshield, and even better, do that on a recumbent bike that is already more aerodynamic than a regular bike. Even better still, build the bike from scratch, using a combo of bamboo+S-glass fiberglass+high PSI tensile epoxy (preferably 7k+) for the primary structure.
    If you get the weight down enough, and the improve the aerodynamics, you can use a smaller battery and less Solar panels. Basically creating a bike version of the Aptera car which may be coming out in the near future.

      Supercapacitors are very good for absorbing high amounts of current demand or current inflow, however, their capacity versus their physical size has not yet reached a point where it is a good idea to completely replace your battery. I recommend adding them to your system regardless, because they do help, but keep a lithium battery on board to do the leg work.
