The 2023 Etape du Tour Route Preview
A stunning area of the French Alps - relatively unknown to visiting riders who are more focused on the classic Tour de France Cols, such as the Galibier, Alpe D'Huez and the Joux Plane which also features in the Etape du Tour 2023.
As we continue to focus on the Etape du Tour 2023 from Annemasse to Morzine we will add more content to help prepare you for the Etape as we head towards 2023 and the event in July.
After the Chablais the Etape du Tour 2023 climbs the Col de la Ramaz from Mieussy on the West side to the summit of the Col de la Ramaz at 1619M. The climb is 14km with a 960M climb at an average 7% and finally onto the Col de Joux Plane.
    This is a cycling vlogumentary.

Hi, thank you for the videos. Will be there in 3 weeks :). Not sure about the gears. Now have the lowest ratio 36:30. How do you think, is it ok for this race, or better move to the 36:34? Thanks, Anton.

Hi Anton - I'm using 52-36 11-34 - depends on your climbing ability. I tend to spin. I'm not a natural climber. Good luck.

What gearing would you recommend for ramaz & jaux plan ? In ascending order of difficulty.
    Option 1 : 46/30 & 11/34
    Option 2 52/36 & 11/34
    Option 3 : 53/39 & 11/34
    Rider profile : 700 VAM .. 200 FTP , 72 kg , 8 kg bike

Hello @dabikeguru A quick comparison - you are at 2.78 watts per kilo. I use your option 2 at 3.5 watts per kilo.
!!!! I can 100% advise you NOT to go with Option 3!!!! That will ruin your day so your choice is 1 or 2. Have you looked at the Joux Plane video?

@@CyclingInTheAlps - thanks so much.. I am going with option-2. Your vlogs on etap are very useful prep. I watched joux plan.. I am sure I will be spent force by the time I hit the foothills of the joux plan. I am going to save some matches for the last one. Aiming to be there at the base around 4 - 5 PM.. keeping 2 hours for joux plan. I got one more question on the descents. Are the descents treacherous like we have in the uk. Many switch backs & gradient ? Thank you so much. 🙏🏼

@@dabikeguru Good choice on gearing however I'm sure we will all be wishing we had a lower gear on the Joux Plane. I've uploaded a video of every descent - have you watched them? Good luck Mike

@@CyclingInTheAlps- Thanks Mike.. I have watched them all. I am sure it must be better than the hardknott & honister descents.
