The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I'm so glad this is a real live performance, flaws and all. They really cooked. Their drummer is great.
The poor guy hardly got any face time - His big shot on television, and you have to take his word for it.
I want to see him !!
This has got to be one of the best songs to come out of the late 1950s. I’ve never actually seen the original group preform it on video. This is going to be awesome.
It probably is the best late 50s song. I mean it’s good enough for modern kids to give up listening to rap music for a few minutes just to listen to this.
So many people who have passed away the past few decades would have loved to see this performance. So I feel very blessed to still be alive to celebrate this special moment.
Yes Indeed... I'll take a shot of that "Tequila!!
Happy Palm Sunday ! 🕊🐰
Thank you for sharing! 💖
I'm the guitar player on the right. We worked in Canada the night before. After flying to N.Y. and checking in to a hotel it was a mad dash to the studio for rehearsal and then the show. Needless to say we were quite wore out. ( I really enjoyed the experience) I didn't know this video was still around. This was performed 'live' and you'll notice the sound wasn't too good. Dale Norris
As has already been said, here, I know that Glen Campbell,James Seals and Dash Crofts were members of the group, but not original members from the beginning. Can you confirm when they were in the group?
your part of that song really "made it" in my book. when I started playing in 62 I remember loving what you added to it. best wishes to you.

We used a part of the track in a school play back in 1986, and ever since I've been looking for the track. What a surprise to find not only the track but one of the guitarists in the band which played the song! Wow!
Have always loved this song. So great to see you and the rest of the group!! Thank you ❤
What an awesome performance by the Champs!!!! Makes you want to get up and dance, thanks for posting.
Two great instrumental hits came out in 58, this one and RUMBLE by Link Wray. The later Champs featured such alumni as Glen Campbell, Jim Seals and Dash Crofts of Seals and Crofts fame.. But this the original with guitarist Dave Burgess and sax man Chuck Flores. Gene Autrey who owned the label Challenge named them after his horse Champ.
Thank you for sharing! 💖 That was an interesting fact about naming the horse.
Thanks love these deets!
Thanks - Gene Autrey owner challenge music label & later champs musicians members -Seals and Çrofts!!
The saxophonist name was Danny Flores who recorded under the name Chuck Rio for Challenge Records because at the time he was under contract to Modern Records his name was NOT Chuck Flores

¡Sensacional!
Don't forget Santana!
One of the biggest instrumental records of all time, and a number one hit in 1958. Written by Chuck Rio (as Daniel Flores). I hope you may also post Kathy Linden singing "Billy" on this episode, which was also a Top 10 record on the Billboard chart in 1958. I've never seen any videos of her.
Written by Danniel Flores as Chuck Río. 😊😊
I had no idea they were on the Ed Sullivan Show but this is one of my favorite instrumental tunes. Thanks for posting this!
you weren't born yet
Apr 20 1958... thanks ed Sullivan show folks
Pee-Wee Herman does his dance in Pee-wee's Big Adventure 1985❤️
Music meets mirth, Pee-Wee and his Big Adventure, dancing to "Tequila",is some of the funniest shit in the history of mankind. Comedy genius !... It never gets old.
Yeah! More 50s videos!
I have LOVED this instrumental song since the 60s
i loved this instrumental when i was little thanks for the posting 😊

This was so energetic and cheerful! Thank you for sharing it. God Bless You and stay safe.
The bass player literally kicking it!
Pure sound of rockin' sax - guitar group!
The family members of the drummer saying, "We can't see him."
He drives it very very nicely.
Lol
Great song
I want to go Back in a time machine just to be able to play this loud on a car stereo ❤️❤️
Why can't you play it loud now?

I can't believe the sax blew the opening riff.

chuck rio grandissimo
fantastici champs.

SALIBA
This must have went so hard back then
Pee Wees Big Adventure the biker bar scene dance.
Dodododood SALIBA😂
The second guy from the left reminds me of the actor who played Goebbles in the movie Downfall.
Considering the last two Sunday premier videos were already of performances uploaded to this channel and for matter major disappointments, this one is a huge improvement. Did not know that they did this major song on Ed Sullivan.
Quit complaining about two Sundays when this channel pumps out 3-4 videos a day of amazing performances.
I only came here because of a random guy dressed up as spiderman, and killed it at the talent show. lol
SALIBA!!!!
👍👍👍👍👍
Tequila 😄😄
Ed Sullivan probably hated RnR but I have a feeling he liked this one.
Five cool cook cats😸
The Sandlot
Have a chew.
Pee Wee's big shoe dance song!
Now I see where Pee Wee Herman got his dance moves.
Is that a Gibson L4?
El caballo de Autry y la pista descartable...
Did Peewee watch this before he got up on the bar?
Saxophonost drink too much tequila 0:19
Maudit soit radio Bucarest in 60s 70s
Maybe the Doors were inspired by the opening
Unfortunately this episode of the Sullivan Show happened on the so called black week, so no ratings are to be found.
what happened in the black week? most importantly, whats the black week?
WTF is a black week?????
"Black Friday" or "Black Week"... Sales instead of one day, they last an entire week. Shopping boys... that's the only Black Week I know of. Usually this occurs the Friday after Thanksgiving until the following Friday. But the date this aired was April.
@@that70sgirl90 yeah so maybe this guy can explain "black week" I'm curious i grew up in the 50's and don't remember any such thing in April
@@recordguy4321 Yes, I'm very curious too. If he doesn't respond, I'm going to ask my mom if she remembers anything. It was before my time, but I don't ever recall hearing of it. Except for after Thanksgiving.
drummer was hot
AWESOME ! However I keep seeing Pee Wee dancing on the bar ...
Sadly, the sax player, Danny Flores lost out on US royalties for this song when he sold the song. Its a shame because the PeeWee movie would have paid him a tidy sum.
Aka punk roots
Donde esta Pee Wee Herman?
Not to brag but I know all the lyrics
How corny was the stage presence back then
