This is the full movie for "Square Roots: The Story of Spongebob Squarepants." It was only available in parts, so I decided to upload the full thing! Enjoy! :) #WTFU
Amen to that. SpongeBob SquarePants was a must watch show back when I was in elementary school during the early to mid 2000’s. I remember even going to the movie theater to watch the SpongeBob SquarePants movie back when I was a kid.
Watching this on May 1st 2024. Exactly 25 Years after the pilot, Help Wanted Aired. SpongeBob SquarePants is one of the most important things to ever happen in my opinion. Stephen Hillenburg created something that will continue to touch generations for years and years to come. It’s great to see the show continue through new seasons, spin offs, movies, video games.
Devastating loss, but we are so fortunate to have the show not only to remember him by, but to be shaped by. Spongebob defined my generation's childhood, we can't even escape it in memes. But none of us are bitter about that, we all love Spongebob. RIP
Stephen Hillenburg was a wonderfully talented cartoonist, animator, storyboard artist, director, producer, and writer. Ever since I was 7 years old, I thought SpongeBob SquarePants is the heart and soul of Nickelodeon. This delightful and creative show told fun stories with charming characters that learned smart messages about being caring, devoted, self-accepting, and cooperative while highlighting the importance of being a friend to others and having a positive outlook on a situation. When I was in 3rd grade, my buddy Devine Baker and I always dreamed of being writers and actors on SpongeBob SquarePants. It will be a very long time before Nickelodeon meets another visionary as fantastic as Stephen Hillenburg. Rest In Peace. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family and friends.
SpongeBob is to Nickelodeon as Pikachu is to Pokémon. I’ve been watching SpongeBob ever since I was really little, so like 3. I’ve practically grown up with it
I was 7 or 8 years old when I saw in Nickelodian magazine the two new shows coming in 1999, Rocket Power and SpongeBob. I thought “the one with the skateboarding kids is going to be great, the other one looks stupid.” Never been so happy to be wrong. If you have avoided SpongeBob because it looks weird then you truly missed something special.
@@benrosenberg3489 yeah i remember that show ..not bad....but NOTHING like spongebob ...i cant believe it's been on since 1999 and has what 21 seasons or so?...love how it can be creepy or gross or whatever, adult humor at times so parents wont be bored but still remain family friendly( not just says they are)..reminiscent of ren and stimpy , and other cartoons of the like, from thay era...the 1st few seasons alone are award-winning...thank you stephen h. and may you rest in that big pineapple under the sea, in the sky....
I'm glad they acknowledge that part of the show's success was really how it was Steve Hillenberg's baby and brainchild. That's really why the seasons without him aren't as good as the ones he was directly involved with. I kinda wish they'd gone a little more into the backstory of Spongebob's creation, just the Jerry Lewis influences.
Thank you Steve, even without you, you managed to create an immortal masterpiece that made and makes grown ups and child's laugh. We all hope you'll be happy up there.
it’s crazy because fast forward to now vs. however many years ago this documentary came out and spongebob has not only kept the same staying power, but created a whole new one in our generation remembering it through memes and reflecting on the good times in the past. my friends and i still put on seasons 1-4 like they just came out yesterday. i feel really blessed having been able to grow along the glory days of this show.
RIP Stephen Hillenburg. Thank you for creating such a pure, lovable, and genuinely fun cartoon that not only managed to surpass Rugrats as Nick's most popular show in its first year alone, but somehow managed to create an icon of American culture on par with the likes of Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, Mario, and Homer Simpson, yet is somehow more relevant than any of them combined over 2 decades later. You will always live on in our hearts!
Can any female cartoon characters be just as big of an icon if they are not created as a property pigeonholed into "girls'" cartoons? How popular, as cartoon characters, are the Powerpuff Girls or Squidina Star or the six ponies from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic? Even though that show was aimed at girls, many people of both genders liked it.
The part where the officer screamed who lives in a Pineapple under the sea? And all the criminals are singing the spongebob theme song made me laugh so hard.
17:33 I almost cried with delight seeing a man I grew up watching play the most fearsome, cold, loathsome characters, pull a jaunty face and chuckle like a pirate 😂
I remember being 7 years old waiting for the first episode to air. Nickelodeon had been hyping it for months leading up to it. The Bubble Stand was the episode.
I love this so much. I really love this special so much about the history and success of SpongeBob SquarePants. Rest in peace Stephen Hillenburg, and thank you for creating the show with your aquatic knowledge of marine biology and love of animation😍🥰💛💖💜💙🧽🌈🦄📱
Steven hillinberg is truely an idol for young animators and writers. He spent years comeing up with the idea of this show, all inspired by his own personal interests, he refined every character to be loveable and relatable to anybody, and he didn’t even know it until he got it out into the world.
Just came in from jelly fishin' before watching this. Then bought the complete seasons box set. Up there with Twin Peaks to be known as best TV show of all time.
What they don't say is that Steve originally wanted the original movie to be the series finale, because otherwise, he feared the show would "jump the gun". But Nickelodeon already had numerous more episodes in production, and Steve left the show because of it until the second movie in 2015.
I loved Spongebob Squarepants for many years. When I was 5 years old, I remember the first episode I watched was the Lost Episode (Sponge could Fly) back in the 2005-06 year (my special ed teacher put that VHS on). After about 10 mins, I fell in love with the show (as a 3-4 yr old, I was not a big fan of the episode). After about 2 years, I slowly got used to a lot of episodes. Even when I was 8 years old, I started imitating a few quotes from the episodes that were so inapporpriate (i.e: Sailor Mouth episode with the swearing). My parents told me not to watch that episode again. 2 years later, I was in a Oakland University summer camp for autistic kids. Out of nowhere, my summer camp workers decided to put a Spongebob episode on. Guess what, it was the Sailor Mouth episode. I almost went into the hallway because I was not interested in the episode. Then I continued watching several other episodes ranging from Season 1 to I believe Season 8. I loved those episodes. I actually kept my mouth shut and didn't bother imitating quotes from the episodes (after a nice talk from my parents years prior). A few episodes were kinda sad and heartbreaking (i.e: Spongebob episode "Dumped", and then the other one "Gary's Toy."). Then I believe in late May of 2013, I stopped watching Spongebob all together because I was kinda growing "too old" for that show, and also stopped watching several Nickelodeon programs all together. -Parents who have kids from 5 to 8 years old, do NOT allow your child to imitate quotes or bad language from their characters (at home or at school). 😊😉

there will never be anything like the 2001-2004 spongebob mania and i am so happy i was able to grow up during and be a part of it.
