- Kyle had been taking at-home colon cancer screening tests from his doctor since he was 40 years old. Unfortunately, the testing didn't detect anything because Kyle was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer just 5 years later. His first symptoms were severe constipation and blood in his stool. A colonoscopy led to his diagnosis, stage 4 colorectal cancer, learning it had spread to his liver.

I am a 2 times colorectal cancer survivor that spread to my lung. 5 doctors said I will not survive but i proof them wrong. 5 yrs later im still here. Be strong and always believe in yourself.

I couldn’t stand long enough to have a shower during my chemo months. I always took baths. My skin was so soft because I had no hair. I drank lots and lots of water during the infusions and after. It’s also important to eat even if you don’t feel like eating. I always had a snack during my infusions. I took sandwiches for myself and my daughter the first time. Someone used to come around with a cart with snacks and you could also have soup, so I just had that from then on. I’m a shy person but I learned to advocate for myself. I found everyone in the Cancer centre was extremely supportive and kind. I had to go to the ER a couple of times and had the same kindness shown to me. I found that they treat Cancer patients differently.
I’m in Ontario, Canada and unfortunately, the doctor shortage is very bad now. If my cancer comes back, I will be very afraid that I won’t get a diagnosis and treatment soon enough. My doctor has just left. I do have another doctor but it’s not the same.
These stories are helpful. After watching dozens of these cancer videos, a pattern forms: ignored or misdiagnosed symptoms lead to a late-stage cancer discovery. I put off my initial colonoscopy for years. I had such vague symptoms I could have easily ignored them for years more. @@dandelions2414 Every now and then, I experienced a slight pinching or cramping pain in my lower right abdominal quadrant which lasted a few seconds each time. It was not daily at first but became so. (The polyp was in the cecum.) Those symptoms occurred most often when I was flat in bed. It felt like something was twisted and if I could just stretch the right way, it would go away. It was easily tolerable, but I wondered more and more why it was not going away and instead was becoming more bothersome. The cramping wasn't more intense, just more constant, especially when lying flat and then turning in bed. About two weeks after it was removed, I could not believe how much more energy I had. Someone saw me and remarked on how well I looked. A recheck will be done at the 6-month mark. If there is any evidence of it growing back, then I will likely have a bowel resection as the ultimate "cure" to get rid of it. Still feeling great for now.

As someone in the UK I am so sad that money matters even come in to the equation over there..I am stage four colon which has spread to my lungs and my radiotherapy treatment begins in ten days..the stress of being in hospital for five months last year, three in intensive care plus another eight weeks in rehab, a colostomy bag to learn to live with and the added dx of matastas to my lungs, is stressful enough..I couldn't cope with worrying about bills too...I wish us both strength and hope..bless you. 💖💖💖🇬🇧

Did you use Cologuard or something other test?
Everything is free in the UK.. we have a National Health System,. Everybody pays a tax, called National Insurance and this goes a little towards the NHS. It is not a perfect system but there is no worry about affording your health care.
@@gillsimpson4976 Wow!! 😲 That's absolutely great!! I'd love we had something like that here. I'm in Mexico and that doesn't exist either, I have to pay directly. It's expensive here as well, even more with complicated, difficult medical conditions, cases.
And doctors here don't work in teams, and there's no communication.

First of all, colon cancer runs in my mother's bloodline. My sister battled it in her 40's. She's now in her early 70's and still going strong. My father lived with metastatic lung cancer (asbestos exposure) for years (like, 25 yrs). It spread to his liver, his vertebrae in his spine, and the lung tumor was huge. He didn't suffer from symptoms until 3 weeks before his passing. I lost a sweet boy, like a god son to me, from colorectal cancer when he was 17. His diagnosis came at 15. How unfair is that?! I think you are very wise and incredibly strong and level headed. It is so true that people never know how chemo or radiation will affect them. My brother had no nausea or vomiting, but he had sores all over his mouth and tongue that burned and kept him from eating. He lost some of his hair, and was very fatigued. His body couldn't tolerate the intense chemo, due to secondary infections like pneumonia and C-dif, so he had to stop after three. But those three knocked his cancer into remission, seeming to melt it away, and it allowed him nearly 3 yrs of life we never expected. My father had radiation, which made his health go downward, so it's always hard to predict. New treatments are constantly being tried. Every person has their own unique experience with battling the cancer AND tolerating treatments. My brother would have side effects during the chemo infusions, because some classes are known for causing adverse reactions. Like you, the staff was always there to stop it, then ease him through the treatments. We were amazed at how much it shrunk his tumors. Never lose your determination or hope. Never. I'm so sorry you are having to go through this wretched disease, and I'll pray that you will go into remission and heal, living a long and healthy life. You have much to live for, my friend.

We live in Ontario Canada. My husband faithfully completed fecal immunochemical tests (FIT) annually as part of his annual checkup. It did not detect the cancer. He was diagnosed with colonrectal cancer in 2015. The tumour had been growing over 10 years. His treatment was different from yours, he had 28 days of radiation with chemo pills and then surgery to remove the tumour and lymph nodes. He had an ileostomy bag (reversal scheduled 6 months later). He then had 8 rounds of chemotherapy. He had one of the drugs delivered (via a port) at the hospital over a 2 hr period and the remaining drugs delivered over 48 hour period via an intravenous pump at home. Home care can into flush the line and remove the hazardous materials after. He took pills for the nausea and had no problems with eating. He has mild neuropathy in both his hands and feet as a result of the chemotherapy but his health has returned to normal. Good luck with your cancer journey. My husband 100% believed he would be cured and never doubted the outcome for a minute. He also chose not to research the internet for information as that was scary as hell and affected his moods.
Hi there, I truly hope your husband gets well again. He did well not to look on Google, it really is catastrophic for the mental health/psychology and it's best to stick to following what your doctor advises.
@@abd4175 For me, knowledge is power. When I needed to start wearing my colostomy bag, for example, I knew exactly what to do. No surprises.

My brother died of stomach cancer aged 38. He died three months after it was diagnosed. His symptoms were dismissed by different physicians over an 18 month period, because he was too young to have anything seriously wrong with him. He knew better, but no one listened untidily it was too late.
This “too young” thing is so insane. Cancer doesn’t know how old you are. My condolences.

In my country which is iran and very shit, atleast the health care is different. If u feel any discomfort ,you just get up and go to the dr right at that moment. And almost all of them will write appropriate tests to look into your issues. Even if its a semi minor issue, they will look into it. Not even super expensive, not even without insurance...

This story struck a chord with me. My son's name is also Kyle, who is 40 years old. Since his graduation from college, he has lost 3 friends in their 30s to Cancer. We've had several discussions about how many young people are being diagnosed with Cancer these days.
The medical community and insurance companies need to start screening at a much lower age than 50.

I live in Canada where you can only get a colonoscopy every 5 years and even then ONLY if you have a family history of colon cancer. I told my general practictioner that I have a family history (I don't) and I pricked my finger and added a drop of blood to the home test. Grateful that I did that because they found polyps that needed to be removed and tested.
I'm also from Canada, specifically from Montréal. When I read your reply, I was curious as to your province as health care is determined by the province, so the criteria may vary from province to province. Age is usually part of the criteria.

I did Cologuard twice. It has a 92% rate of spotting colon cancer, but does not give information on polys. Colonoscopy is best for best results, but that is invasive too and has possible risks. So sorry to hear this happened to you. Sending hugs and prayers.
I tried that also a couple of timesit showed negitive but i also have diverticulitis on and off bc ihave diverticulosis but i was told thzt i need a. Colonectomy bc my son died from stage 4 colon ca but im too afraid to get thst done bc ot might disrupt my diverticulitis somwhow then i woukd need antibiotics again i refu
se to take medication bc i hVe chronic tinnitus with mild to moderate h loss so im afrId of everything slong with ditorted smell phantosmia and hro ic metalic taste in my mouth sll r unknown reasons!!! Doctors give an educated guess. I was told I would die if I didn’t have a colostomy bag 20 years ago. I said hell no.
Here I an 20 years later without one. Get a third opinion. A doctor that doesn’t know that doctor.
It sounds like you have an amazing support system within your family & friends. I have found that is such a great help. I was dx Jan 3 of this year with Uterine Cancer(Carcinosarcoma). Financially I’m wiped out & emotionally I’m drained. On top of that, you really are correct when you say we must be our own advocates when dealing with treatments/doctors! But if it weren’t for my children helping financially I don’t know what I would do.

Wishing you well Kyle! I completely hear you with your comment about being your own advocate during one’s journey with cancer! I’m battling my second time with lymphoma cancer. The first time I underwent 6 rounds with aggressive chemo, R-CHOP. This time I’m able to get radiation treatments. I’ve presently had 3’ sessions with 10 to go. I have stage 3 rectal cancer, diagnosed on January 5, 2024. I started taking Fenbenzadole 222mg daily, along with two sessions of chemotherapy and two sessions of immune therapy. My tumor markers have shrunk and continue to shrink. Please watch Joe Tippens CZcams video. I follow his protocol and it's working.

I am so sorry for your cancer journey. I was diagnosed with stage IV colorectal cancer in April of 2023. 28 rounds of radiation with oral chemo followed by 10 sessions of FOLFOX infusion Chemo and a microwave ablation for a lung nodule. Finally my tumor was removed leaving me with a permanent colostomy, but alive. I am sorry for all the people that struggle getting diagnosed. My treatment happened like a whirlwind

I always hear about people dying young, unexpectedly and people making the cliche statement, “If only he knew what was happening inside his body.” I would LOVE to know what is happening inside my body. I would love to know if I have cancer, an aneurysm, clogged arteries, a damaged heart, etc. I have asked 3 separate doctors about the possibility of scanning my body for abnormalities and I have been rejected by all three. I have good reasons for wanting to know. I guess, I will be another one of those statistics. Either I will die from something that I didn’t know or I will die from something that wasn’t discovered in time. Such is life….
My prayers are with these patients and we truly appreciate the strength in sharing their stories.
Never rely on home kits. Camera is way more accurate
I agree, and the major advantage of a colonoscopy is they snip away any pre-cancerous polyps so the doctor is not just detecting cancer the doctor is also preventing it from ever forming in the first place.

I was bleeding from the back passage, and after all my treatment, I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis.
I live in the UK and first signs of any bleeding our Dr’s refer you on immediately like they did with me.

I'm sorry - WHAT?!?!?! He had had blood in his stool, and it got to the point where he had more blood than poo, and the doctor agreed it was probably just hemorrhoids? I know he was doing the at-home tests, and they weren't showing anything, but imho, the sheer fact that he regularly had a decent amount of blood in his stool should've been a tip off to the doctor to explore further. Wow. I'd be looking for a new doctor that day. I've always been so grateful for my current doctor. I think she's the absolute best, and hearing stories like this make me appreciate her even more. No way she would've let this slide. Again, wow.
In other countries, we don’t have the option to find other doctors.

I wish you the best. The thing that gets me about younger people getting screened is the gaslighting of people in their 20’s by not only physicians but by insurance companies to pay for the screenings. My kids are in their 20’s and are on their own insurance policies. And they have stomach issues. When my son went to the dr, he was told it’s from anxiety. My daughter is being told it’s endometriosis. Both of them are content with these answers. I am terrified.
Those are fallback doctor answers… BS diagnosis.

I took my husbands apointment for his colo. I just had a vague bad feeling, no pain, no digestive problems. I was then diagnosed with stage 2 sigmoïd colon cancer at 52. No chemo, only an operation to remove 18 cm of the colon. My family was very surprised, there were no known antecedents of colon cancer and my doctor told me, I was relatively « young » for developing such a big tumor. Unfortunately, this was the beginning of a family tragedy, I since lost my 40 year old nephew and my sister ( 64y) to colon cancer. Several of my siblings and nephews/nieces have had polyps removed and now it seems that we have an unknown genetic mutation in our family that makes us develop polyps when we are too young. With every generation the polyps seem to start growing earlier.

Kyle, dang son. I truly believe there is better treatment these days. I totally eliminated all sugar and flour stuff except as a treat, ate every two hr., also subscribed to the 2 puff method, except mine was breast cancer. So exciting for the adoption plan.

Negligence on the PCP any family history of colon cancer and above 40 should have. A colonoscopy every 3-5 years I’ve been going since 25 maternal grandmother and aunt died of colon cancer .

I’ve heard some people who have been vaccinated with Covid -chemo made their tumors grow exponentially. I pray you have better results . Kiwi has had good effect on colon cancer and mostly carnivore diet , apparently.

I am sorry to hear of your story and wish you the best. I am a physician and student of medical disinformation. Please be thoughtful in your decision making, particularly as it applies to overtreatment. This is a concept understandably misunderstood. Oncologists will recommend aggressive care because that is what they are trained to do. Be careful and have a low threshold for second opinion. Best of luck.
I'm worried that he did a screening test for four years and his cancer wasn't caught. I'm 34 and thinking about doing an annual Cologuard with the assumption that it's a dependable test 😑
The test he described isn't Cologuard. Cologuard has very high accuracy rates. There are other at home tests that aren't as accurate. What he used must have been one of the less accurate ones.
Heal well brother. Folks, skip the "home test" and see your Gastro Dr. Get that scheduled Colonoscopy, its a bum deal of a test, but it can save your life.

Kyle, we are so alike in many ways. I'm gay also, and I have prostate cancer. During screening they found a module in my lung. It was a separate primary cancer. It took priority as lung cancer metastisized easily. They took out half of my lung. I was so lucky, it was stage 1B. No further treatment, just monitoring and cat scans for a few years. BTW never smoked ever. Then hurricane Ian hit down here and my prostate surgery was delayed as the hospital was damaged and flooded. By the time I had it removed it was stage 3B, with local spread but not to lymph nodes. There was still some cancer presence after surgery so I had salvage radiation therapy ( 40 sessions). Lots of side effects from that. Ten months later I'm mostly back to normal. Still some lingering burning and other unpleasant stuff. But I see my general oncologist tomorrow morning and so far everything looks ok. Oh , also had a bout of malignant melanoma removed. Doctor thinks I may have the BRCA gene mutation. I will get that test tomorrow. Overall, very optimistic for a remission and maybe even a cure. I wish you all the best in your recovery! Thank you for sharing your experience.

Aww, sometimes doctors missed out the malignant polyps on colonoscopy through their naked eye. I hope with the advent of AI during colonoscopy, the result will be 100% accurate. The patient has been proactive already, having colonoscopies when he reached 40 years old. 😢

Do you realize how offensive statements like this are? First, to the medical community. How about the brilliant minds and of the researchers, doctors, and nurses who work their butts off to save you and/or your family member. Second, to the people who don't survive or don't do well, you're saying they weren't worthy of god's healing or didn't pray enough. god has nothing to do with this. Sometimes, it's genetics, lifestyle, or just crap luck.
