Bolan's guitar playing was sloppy in exactly the right way, I think! The music just struts and swaggers, it's dirty in a really playful way. Love "Jeepster" and it looks a lot of fun to play, thanks for another great lesson!

Before my starting on guitar, age 11 in1971, my mum said Jeepster 'is like Led Zappalin' (LZ & FZ!). Played on a nylon 6-string it could be done as a C&W, but virtuoso, neo-classical and shredding was in the future when we saw a star as important as Bowie on Top of the Pops. Marc was the origin point of GlamRock and HE was T Rex, and our black labrador was named trex, also the name of a cooking fat brand. Anyone who derides him has not written, played and performed several hits, while being adored by girls, boys, others in the space of a few short years. There are even bits of his live soloing that could pass for Hendrix - yes really - maybe that's where he got some ideas, like we all do. I'm a fan, like yourself, and also, I approve of your teaching style, something that is not easy. 5 gold stars to you.

Mmmn, Lou Reed's I'm So Free off the Transformer album; Ronson's soloing at the end of that song is most unusual - so "outside" it's almost out of tune but it fits in beautifully. Go check it out. Mick Ronson wasn't a monster player like Jimmy Page or Hendrix but he knew enough to step up to the plate and deliver every time.

Mine was "Ride a White Swan", which is in the key of Ab Major!! Not a typical Pop/ Rock key, more jazz/ horns/ woodwind etc. Jeepster is the ultimate "12 bar blues in A", with an extra free bonus 2 bars added. The girls at school went into a trance if you showed them a new picture of him. By the time I could play a T Rex song with less than 10 errors I was going grey and those teen heartbreakers were grandmothers. 😊

Great lesson again! For now though I'm determined to work some more on Moonage DD before I get to this. Les Paul idea: Bye Bye Love, the Cars. Maybe a bit mainstream, but the song is in the pantheon of the rock Gods, and the guitar a great Elliot Easton creation. Problem is, the Cars are so perfectly integrated, I'm not sure how you'd pull out the guitar effectively. But if any one can ...(!)

I agree whole heartedly with all you said before the breakdown, too many take too much store in how adept artists are on the fingerboard (those when in the studio say things like "you still can't hear my guitar ", or when live are constantly turning up) when it's the song that's important and not them.
    Nicely said and nicely done.

Good choices nothing wrong with Slash, Kossoff, Page et al but it’s always good to recognise other players. Not a criticism but Guy Days was more a Gibson Les Paul Junior he played a single cut 55 or 56 back in the day.
Today he uses a Gordon Smith Junior style he’s a hugely underrated player, the reason being he came from the punk scene and as we all know ‘punks can’t play their instruments’ haha you’ve only got to look at John Ellis to see punk virtuosity
