Adding NEW Animals || Paludarium UPDATE

- This video takes place 2 months after initial setup. I didn't mention the names of any new plants so here are the important ones off the top of my head:
Begonia Maculata
Alocasia Bambino
Neoregelia "Fireball"
Neoregelia "Tom Tom"
Neoregelia "Gene McKenzie"
Neoregelia "Superball"
Something else I didn't mention was that after returning home from the aquarium store, I realized that all the shrimp I had purchased were female. From there I proceeded to drive all the way back just to buy 2 males. So far they all seem to be doing great, and I haven't had any acclimation issues. I supplement them food once a week and I use "Shrimp King Complete".
this is really high quality content especially considering that you only just started making videos, keep it up and youll go far
I really appreciate it!
Completely agree this guy is insaneeee
@@TheDrPlants these are really interesting 🙂 just as an aside, why do shrimps contort themselves into what I call a hairdryer shape? Like bent in the middle into a 90 degree angle? Mine did it often and I wondered more than once what he was up to!
@@ChrisAndCats LOL
@@CynT1001 they do! I've still not figured out why as it looks very uncomfortable!
You can tell the geckos absolutely love this tank, or else they wouldn't have laid eggs! This is extremely impressive, keep up the amazing work friend!
I love the stuff that you put in the work honestly speed up stuff and also the time that was made

I absolutely love this. I took in a bearded dragon a few years ago as a rescue, he came to me in the most generic and cramped tank you could imagine. I built him a bioactive vivarium as I thought it would be the best habitat for him and I found myself falling in love with building these small, contained ecosystems that none the less contained so much life.
I love how building terrariums is a truly living art, never completely done
I have to give you your props man. I didn't think I'd be interested in a fresh water eco system, but this is extremely cool. Might just be something I'd try in the future. Thanks for the inspiration.
I just found your channel and I'm obsessed! One thing I really liked about this video is you paid attention to the shrimp's hiding behavior, and you added the red root to make them more comfortable. You seem to actually care about the creatures you put in your tanks. Big and small. 🦐
There are several inches of snow on the ground so I'm binge watching to get caught up. I must say I admire not only the quality of your content and the build itself but how you respond to comments.
Talking with other hobbyists is one of the main reasons I started this channel!
That's fantastic. I normally do lots of watching and research not much commenting but I'd like to see your channel grow. I built terrariums and aquariums when I younger. Looking forward to building a paludarium when we move into our, yet to be built retirement house.
Thanks and sounds awesome! If you have any questions in the future don’t hesitate to ask!
@@TheDrPlantswhat was that little plant that looks like a palm tree?
I'd loooooove to see updates on every project of yours. I could spend the day watching ❤ the way you talk also makes it so comfortable:)))
There are two main types of small white worms that could populate a freshwater aquarium. One type is Nematodes, which are hair-like roundworms known as Detritus worms. The other type is flatworms and includes species such as Planaria and Rhabdocoela. 3:07
@drplants Ty for information
I am delighted with your videos, so clear and bright! Well done!
I love the whole ecosystem you made!! So cool!!
Thanks!
I keep watching this build, I love it so much and I’ve watched many many videos. It’s the best.
love your vids! answered some key queries I had. I can't wait to get settled and get my first palludarium(s) going!
Just found your channel and I'm OBSESSED!!!! BEAUTIFUL TANK!
Love all your plants ! See you next time Doc. xo
I've started with your latest video and going on a marathon on your chanel 💙. Amazing content buddy 👍 thumbs up from Romania !
Great content man, I’ve been binging your videos all day!
This is amazing. And a new project has been hatched. Now to start the process of acquiring product. Any help with a list would be great. I’ll start to go through links and do some research. I’ll bet money the kids will love this.
Your content is really good. Keep it up man
I like this a lot. Thank you for showing us. Would heart leaf fern work in this Paludarium?
Love this tank and update!
this is one of the coolest things EVER! absolutely love this ❤
You are extremely talented! Brilliant work 😊
Thank you!!
i really love the tank and your videos. they are full of information and you explained them very well (and funny)
Nice build keep up the good work. Your content is awesome
Awwwww those shrimp are so adorable
you deserve a lot more views and subs. Great Video!
You can use an empty plantspot for a fruitcup or some gekko food.
My man has 12 videos and 650k subscribers. The quality is unparalleled!
This is so cool! I’m planning to build one very similar to this! I want to keep some dart frogs with some mourning geckos! I love using your videos as inspiration!
Yes. That’s what I’m thinking. Dart frogs.
That is soo cool...yer very own forest...
This content is great keep it coming
Depending on the temp in your tank and if you want to bother with wintering plants and what other critters you will be adding, carnivorous plants could be a great option for the empty pots. Venus fly traps are a safe and easy bet, though pitcher plants and sundews might cause probs for smaller animals. Idk, but this looks awesome!! Good work, bro!
I definitely want to make a tank with pitchers! I’m almost finished editing the next update and the animals in it, would definitely be eaten by pitcher plants LOL. I may plant pingluicula though if I can find it.
@@TheDrPlants I would love to hear how the carnivorous plants work out! Am sketching out a plan for a paludarium with orchids and fly traps on the walls, so am wicked stoked to see what you come up with!
@@zaddyandtheeels Sounds sick! I’d love to hear how it goes. Many people have success keeping nepenthes pitcher plants and pinguicula in humid enclosures too. Fly traps are harder to keep so I wish you luck!
Dude that really is a beautiful setup!!
Thank you!
so amazing and beautiful
i watch these videos to dleep! ther so relaxing😊
I love the videos keep it up man
Wow beautiful.
Thank you!!!
Lol I love those shrimp tap dances
Awesome thank I wanna build one too I was just curious what temperature you keep the water at
Gorgeous set up. So jealous. I have had so many challenges with my set ups.
Thanks!! What problems have you had, if you have any questions, feel free to ask
@@TheDrPlants a lot of mold and algae. Was thinking of adding a computer fan? But afraid the dart frogs could somehow get hurt if they got to it.
@@mynala110 If you put the computer fan at the top of the tank, I think you’ll be alright. I’d give it a shot because the air-circulation will definitely reduce mold growth
You know this guy is the most coolest at school.
Beautiful
Thank you!!
This is good keep up the good work
I love this so much
I LIKE YOUR VIDEO!! KEEP IT UP!
THANK YOU!!
I want to make one of these so bad. Ive been rewatching your videos to get ideas. Ive scouted out resources from local shops. Now it's just a matter of taking the first steps.
Cute shrimps ^w^
Nice video guys❤😊
I love ur videos make more😢😢
he got me with "family tree with 50 pictures of you"
Just discovered you, nice build!
i would recomend a Nepenthes in one of these pods they would love it!
also one question i have bc i saw how you builded the tank and im planing my open Paludarium rn
how do you keep the water values and temperature good for the shrimp? i didnt see any heater and i would expect the soil to mess with the water?
keep up youre work!
You are definitely right about the soil messing with the water. But to my observations so far, it has had no negative effects. The shrimp are thriving as there are tons of baby shrimp scattered around the tank. I don’t use a heater because my house is always between 65°-70°. I also only do water changes once a month.
alright thanks!
then i maybe will try to keep shrimps too when my tank is ready but its a lot smaller then youres ^^
only have experience with shrimps in my heated and filtered tank so im excited to see how youre shrimps do!
I know I am super super late on this but dont heat a shrimp tank. Freshwater shrimp caridina or neocaridina are colder water species so unless your room gets below like 65 degrees it should be fine
Your videos are outstanding!
Would it be worth considering adding fish or is it not possible here?
These videos are super cool! And they got me interested into Paludariums! Do you have any tips for beginners? I am also wondering if you have to do anything to the water for it to be ok for the plants and animals.
Man I want to live in there.
Wow!
You're so underrated
I wonder how a maranta would look in there. Seems like the perfect conditions for this plant
i really wanted to build a ecosistem in a tank but i wonder if i coudl instead of doing a foam backround, i coudl hot glue some wood and pots for plants and fill the rest of the backround with moss. do you think that will work???? thank you
Dope
How did you regulate your humidity? I built a similar tank with yours as inspiration, and my humidity won’t drop out of the 90s. And I only have half my tank covered. Looks like you have more covered. A lot of my plants can’t take the moisture in the soil/air.
You said you wanted to make a video especially for the plants you have used. Pls do :-), also about using this Dust Moss Mix. And one thing I am VERY curious....when you have build your background, which diameter of the pots you have used? 5 / 6 / 8 / or 10cm?
Hey there! Big fan of your content, super quality! I was curious about temp control for your dry/water jungle tank. I’m considering a summer project for myself and the kids on our covered patio. Large scale. Thoughts? I’d love to trade concepts if you give one on ones as well via email. Thanks! Look forward to hearing back!
From Malaysia 🇲🇾❤️
Check out Microcosmos for answers hopefully identify that white worm. 👍🏼
A plant suggestion: purple flowers😊
👍👍
doing my bit for this G
The red root floaters aren't red anymore cause the light intensity isn't high enough, if you put them out in the sunlight, they might grow red again and might even grow tiny little white flowers
Yes your right!
what would the temperature need to be on this tank? my climate is a little colder and i think i would need heating.
I suggest oak leaf ficus for the empty pot space in the back
I keep that plant but I never thought of putting it there. If I have extra I’ll definitely give it a shot!
@@TheDrPlants it’s a little bit slower growing but it’s definitely worth it! Over time it will make an incredible back ground cover
For sure!
Just stumbled onto your channel. This is awesome!.
I can see where this would addictive...in a good way :)
Have you thought about adding a carnivorous plant somewhere in the tank?.
Venus Fly Trap or Pitcher plants, maybe Honeydew.
They usually thrive in humid conditions.
But, they may also eat the tiny lizards if one ventured too close.
Just a thought.
Thank you!! I do not think I’d add carnivorous plants to this setup because I fear it could eat both the baby geckos and the baby crabs. I definitely want to do a carnivorous plant build in the future!
Quick Question: If you needed to maintain the filter would you have to dismantle the whole thing?
Who is the snails and shrimps predator? So they don't overpopulate, is it a small lizard?
You could add ferns…😅
Thanks!
@dr.plants what site did you buy all the creatures in your tank?
how did you mount the bromeliads to the branches?
I'm curious if the tank is warm enough for Orchids?
Whats the creeping plant there at 0:31 called? love your content! :)
Marcgravia and thank you!
Begonia melanobullata would be perfect
How did you plant on driftwood? And whats the temperature in there?
I took the plant I wanted to put on the driftwood and I tied it down with some string. After about two weeks, it grows roots and is able to hold onto it by itself. Once that happens I remove the string. The temperature is just room temperature, 70°
Also what type of plants did you move down and what plant is in the back left corner? Sorry for all the questions lol 😅
That one would be alocasia bambino. And I’ll happily answer questions, no need to be sorry.
greaaaat viddddddd
Would ghost shrimp help?
Do you not have to change the filter on your pump? How hard is it to do with your set up?
Would you be able to put a newt in this tank ?
Dr. Plants, can you please tell me the name of that small tree like fern? i have been looking for it all over.. thank you
Biophytum sensitivum!
Oooo New animals?
do any of the plants get "plant shock" from the new environment? Or do u just drop in the new plants before acclimating them
Yes actually. Many of them loose some leaves initially but they generally grow back stronger and bigger!
U should add morning glory’s
Would the snails not all have came from one common ancestor and so every snail in the species is the exact same?
No because, whilst they can reproduce through parthenogenesis, they primarily reproduce sexually.
2:52 it was not fish who first crawled onto land, but snails!
How do you clean the filter?
I also want to know
Lovely! Did the mystery of those wormy critters get solved?
I’m pretty sure they are a small species of planaria
@@TheDrPlants I think you nailed it!! Yes!
Can you do a video on your plants and where you got them
Possibly in the future!
can the animals survive without external food?
What other animals could you put in an environment like you've created?
jaajaja you really make laught .... a big family tree with 50 photos of me ..
what type of plant is the mini palm tree?
my country is Malaysia i like you put Malaysia 🇲🇾 animal 😊
