    C'mon, the real reason we men retire in the PI is to spend the rest of our lives providing selfless, charitable service and money to the poor and the needy - who, for some reason, in our cases, just happen to be young women.

    I'm so sick of people trying to pretend finding a gorgeous young woman isn't 99% of the reason an expat comes to the Philippines!!! Being invisible to women in western countries (cuz the man didn't become wealthy) is so bad, a man will leave his family & friends behind to put up with awful heat, persistent rain, typhoons, roosters, barking dogs, karaoke, yucky food, terrible service in restaurants, long slow lines, trash, poverty, traffic, renewing visas, everyone around you speaking Tagalog, scammers, malaria, strange skin infections, bad roads, no sidewalks... the desire for a bikini model girlfriend, is strong enough to put up with all those awful things!

    I went to the Philippines and met several cute, young women. Every night was a party and several told me they "loved me". I told them I had to return home for business but that I would return with presents for them. I went home, forgot them, and made plans for my next vacation elsewhere. Very soon after returning home, I got emails from the Philippine gals saying that they missed me and that they urgently needed money for various reasons. One told me that her grandmother needed an operation soon, or the old lady would die. I replied to that one and said, "I will pray for your grandmother".

    "Looking for something different" can also mean getting away from the socially / politically charged atmosphere of the US. It's not just the same-old shopping malls and drive to work routines, it can also be getting away from the manufactured controversies that swirl in American media.

      You're kidding, right? The Philippines is a political hotbed and always has been. Not only is there a centuries old conflict with Muslim separatists in the South, the Philippines is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world sitting smack dab in the middle of strategic trade routes. China is claiming expanded territory in the region which is setting the stage for a superpower conflict with the USA/ASEAN nations. Watch Filipino politicians for 5 minutes and you'll see politics that rival anything you see in the U.S. EVERY election in the Philippines is disputed and there is corruption on a grand scale. I think it's time to take off the rose colored glasses.

    • @edward88881
      @edward88881 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@jasonjames4254 Every Filipino should be concerned about the topics you raised and work to make the country better. I'm fully aware of the China problem. People on retirement visas however are more interested in reading books by the pool, planning a weekend trip to Baguio, or joining their friends at the pub. They don't tune in to the local news. Language differences create an artificial barrier to controversial topics that they don't care to cross. They can't vote. Although they may get annoyed with the banking system and power failures, it's beyond their control to do much about it. With one foot still in their home country keeping up with distant friends and relatives they are not as embedded in Philippines as full citizens. Since they were gifted residency by the Philippine government are they obligated to get involved, participate and contribute more? That's a longer and more involved discussion. The point I raised here is that some retirees are looking for escape and a new life and those can be found in the Philippines without much effort.

    Great video, Mike! I totally agree with the top reasons why we want to move to the Philippines. And yes, the number one reason is women. But let's not fool ourselves when it comes to the reason why oldies like we can get these beautiful young Filipinas. They want a better life and more financial security than the average Filipino can offer them. Is that wrong? I don't think so, as long as they are willing to give us what we need, and most of them are! But I often hear vloggers downplaying the financial motives: they want us for our maturity, our intelligence, our loyalty, our straight nose or the size of our banana. I've heard it all! But if we are smart, we must recognize that we wouldn't stand a ghost of a chance against a 40-year-old foreigner with the same assets. But those are scarce! I would say: if you want to move to the Philippines for the three top reasons you mentioned, do so, but be realistic in your expectations. I think you and Janet are going about life in the Philippines with the right mindset.

    Here's my perspective, for what it's worth. I retired to the Philippines at 51 because my Filipina wife, whom I met in HK, wanted to come home and raise our kids here. We live in the sticks but not in isolation. 1). Food. I live in a rural area. I am a vegetarian and it suits me. We get fresh fruit and vegetables. She gets all the stuff she wants and all the Western luxuries I want are freely available. 2) I don't give a crap about the weather. We live at altitude - low humidity and a decent temperature. 3) I am well-travelled due to work/experience. My wife appreciates the opportunity to travel overseas. We go abroad on family trips. Malaysia/Indonesia/Thailand are local holidays. Every now and then we go to Europe or North America. 4). Cost of living. We own residential and economic property valued at around 1M USD, but we bought some of it prior to coming here. Money is not an issue. 5) The girls? I met my wife overseas. We have a nine year age difference. Not exactly cradle-snatching. I don't need to be looked after. I don't need a geriatric nurse.

    The thing I notice with vloggers that are 60+ is most want to be married. With the plethora of available women, why should he put himself in a disadvantage when there is no need? If he gets married she now holds the leverage since divorce is illegal in the Philippines. If a man can go there, be in high demand, wouldn’t it make more sense to select one, and stay with her without getting married? This would offer the option to get out of the relationship if she changes, especially when most guys has already been divorced?

    • @mikesphilippineretirement
      @mikesphilippineretirement  Před 5 měsíci

      I do not understand how she holds the leverage you know it is against the law for a married women to have sex with someone not her husband but it is NOT against the law for a man to cheat on his wife.

    My life is so much simpler here. Could not live here without my Filipino wife interfacing WITH ALL MY SOCIAL INTERACTIONS. i'M WAY TOO OLD . I get by with much less money than in the USA. My wife is much thriftier than me. She'll go out of her way to save 5 pesos. She won't let me over-tip lol. We're going on a trip to Vigan and Bagiou today, she does everything to set it up and pays for it. If anyone asks me for money I refer them to my wife. LOL. My contribution is to give her the money and she is in charge of spending it. Need a loving and trustworthy wife for that. Great place to live here in Bataan. Thankful to miss the winter season in USA.

  • @strangeanimal1535
    @strangeanimal1535 Před 3 měsíci +3

    My reasons are economically motivated. I'm 53, single. I'm not interested in marrying a Filipino girl and supporting her "clan". I'd rather be mobile than stuck owning anything. If the shit hits the proverbial fan, I don't have to negotiate with anyone about anything. I just get out of Dodge and go somewhere else. I want more bang for my $. I love people, women cats and dogs. I don't want any living with me. I'm more efficient on my own. I move quickly on my own. I make friends easily. I trust only myself. As a lone wolf by nature, I adapt and thrive on my own. I don't need to be surrounded by people all the time. I want peace of mind. I do need to BBQ however. Maybe Mexico would be a better option. Maybe a few months renting there, a few months in the Philippine, and a few months in Thailand. Repeat the cycle. Women ? Marrying is buying, dating is renting. Like I said, I'd rather be mobile than stuck.

Old guy gets the MUCH, MUCH, younger girl in return for completely supporting her and also feeding money to the girls family. Its ALL about the money to the girl, if your low on funds, she will move on to someone 30-50 years older that she is because many of the old guys do have the bucks!!!!

    Hey Mike. I really enjoyed your no BS video, the top 3 reasons for going to the PI. I am 75 but am taken for 60/65 because I look and act younger. I smile and enjoy life. But I’ve had a bad experience while chatting with a Filipina for a year. She scammed me for over $12,000 because of my being naive about her intentions and her lies. I was in love with her … or thought I was, and was making plans to bring her to the US. She had more excuses and emergencies than anyone I’ve ever known, and I finally had enough. So no more chatting online for me. I still want to go to the islands and the reasons you spoke about are the main drivers. I am financially stable and can afford to upgrade, but I want to come there and take my time getting to know the country, people, women, and weather before I commit. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    I agree with all your points, Mike. I visited last July and met (in person) the girl I'd been chatting with for several months. Then, when the 30 days were almost up, I advance purchased a plane ticket (1 way), and converted the Airbnb we were in to a monthly rental in Dumaguete, to start in January when I would arrive. Went back home, sold all my stuff (or just left it in the apartment), and we continued to chat until I boarded the plane January 1st in Miami. I've been here since the 2nd of January, and couldn't be happier. My girl (54) takes wonderful care of me, and we've changed each other's lives for the better in so many ways. Yes! #1 is the girls. #2 is cost of living. #3 is a new life with new hope for a happy retirement until the good Lord takes me. Your vlogs have been highly instrumental and instructional in how I've arranged things here. I couldn't be happier! Thank you!

    Over the last 20 years, I have spent most of that time living abroad. Americans who have NEVER left the United States have no idea what the rest of the world is like. The USA doesn't even rank in the top 10 places to live, The USA doesn't rank in the top 10 safest countries. The USA doesn't rank in the top 10 healthiest countries. MOST citizens around the globe would choose to live anywhere BUT the USA. This world has a lot of nice places to live in. Life goes quickly. Enjoy while you can.

    I can vouch what you say. I live in Las Vegas, my routine daily is road rage in the morning, work, work late, go to a bar for a few beers and go to bed just to do this over again. Stress level and blood pressure very high trying to avoid living on the streets. I cannot afford to do anything i used to like doing like fishing, camping go to shows. Affordable living is unattainable anymore. Rent is raping me. For 5 years I have been traveling back and forth to the Philippines to plan my exodus..My vehicles are paid off in the Philippines, a home I do not pay rent, got my 10 year driver license...and all my bills now are just utilities and food and the annual auto ins and registrations. Average $300 a month living expense now from $3800 monthly struggling to stay alive in Nevada. I planned on living in my car for awhile to save money, but moving to the Philippines was a better option.

    It's definitely cheaper here for a pensioner. The weather and the food suck. But it's definitely the gorgeous chicks that brought me here initially. I can't deny that (not that I've had much luck in finding 'love' but so easy to find beautiful freelancers, and the more money you have, the more fun you (can) have. Most Filipinas like young local guys which is totally normal so older foreigners have to face this reality. And a tremendous amount of cheating goes on here by girls and guys. Once I met a girl in a bar who wanted to come to my room and who was going to join her foreign fiancé the following week (supposedly). Naturally I asked her why she'd want to cheat on him. Answer: "He's not here and doesn't know what I'm doing."

    You are right about the reasons given Mike. I was also in Afghanistan for a long time as a helicopter pilot. And I love the peaceful and friendly atmosphere here in Davao. I was tired of the hard and heartless life. And you are right. The food isn't that great. If you love Asian food, Thailand is a more worthwhile destination. But I love the way Filipinos live. The way they think. Many people here are a bit shy when it comes to speaking English. They think they don't speak well enough and feel a little ashamed. However, since my mother tongue is German, people here are not so shy. And I only speak some Tagalog and no Bisaya. Kind regards to Dumaguete. George

    Its true, initially went to the Philippines to meet Merlyn who is now my wife. Have been there a few times since we married and never thought I would want to retire there.
    After recently thinking about retiring there it does seem enticing economically and for a change of life circumstances.
    Will only be getting $1800 USD total for retirement but my paid for house would sell for almost a half million US right now, no more taxes or insurance sure would be nice.
    And to get away from the politics that have so much divided this country would be great too. My dad will not even talk to me because I voted for President Trump. Never voted for him in the primarys but not like I had a choice in the general election. Have not voted democrat since Jimmy Carter and never again.
    Good video Mike but if you are already married to a filipina, the reasons to retire there are economics and change of lifestyle. Spot on Mike. Keep up the good work....Jim

    I just wanted to say a couple things to the middle to upper middle income retirees thinking about coming here. I was in the united states at 50 years old when i the basically disabled at about $200k/yr. I was in the 32% tax bracket. I was easily paying well over 50 to 60% of my income just in taxes in the united states. Chicago has a 10% sales tax huge property tax. Hardly mention the others but look up everything in your state. Here there is a 12% VAT tax. When you buy something you pay in its automatically in the price when you buy stop at the store. There is no income tax here or tax on retirement income here so that's money in your pocket. If you are mid to upper class you need to go to either cebu or manila and you'll live similar to big city back home. I hope this helps.

    I understand you completely and yes your reasons are sincre specifically the women and the loyalty and love they show and give you, food wise i think it's the same wherever you go there is just some food's you are not going to like in any country because you grew up on certain foods and nobody is going to top our mothers cooking, cost of living in the Philippines is great compared to the United States and Canada you can't find any apartments in New York city under $4k a month I'm in Toronto Canada and same here cost of living has gone crazy and how many people that leave Canada and the United States are running from something or someone back home and yes it falls in the same reason for wanting a different life. Mike this is Mike great video i try to watch as many of your videos as possible and hopefully i will be coming there before the end of 2024 im not going to be here for another winter hope we can meet and have a coffee great to hear and see your videos keep em coming and before I go if you are happy with someone younger than have a great life together, I find a lot of western women are out cheating on their husbands or drinking in the Bars not much loyalty in the west anymore and finally both Canada and the United States have got completely crazy over this southern boarder and the crime is on a rise that you wouldn't believe and you have to really watch what you can say or not say in the west i love my country but these up and coming politicians are making everything that you do is controlled by them they are really trying hard to phase out the middle class people very sad to see in what you and I grew up in and now complete nut's have a good one God Bless you all Mike

    This is why I trust you more than any other vlogger Mike, you're truthful. I can't count how many expat interviews I have seen where the guy says they didn't come here for a woman. They came here for the weather, the beaches, etc. Yeah, right. What is wrong with just saying you were lonely in your home country or the women there were not to your taste? Men should not be ashamed to say they got up and went somewhere else to find a good woman.

    You know that US citizens is only a small portion of the total number of western people, right?
    This winter we were down to -22 F (-30 C), and snow chaos. I have experienced worse. Many of the old people around here will sooner or later die from a cold or a flu during the winter. Many fall on ice and break their lege, ankles etc and end up indoors at the end.
    If you want to enjoy your life in your old age, a warm climate is the number one reason to move if you are from around here.
    The reason that sometimes become Philippines is 1 they speak good english, 2 people are nice and usually nice to older people, 3 it is easy to handle your visa.
    Othervise more people from here would retire in Cambodia, Vietnam etc instead.
