  • Today, I go over the removal of the 5.4 built motor that was in my Ford F150 Lightning. I talk about some tips, tricks, and things I wish I knew at first. The process went smooth and I'm sure it's something you could do to, with the help of some of the info in this video, so check it out!

    Get v-bands . i tig welded them on my lightning.I have them just before and after my mufflers.never had a leak.

    I have done this process twice on my 2002 Lightning. It was quite the process. The harness advice is a good tip. 👍

    Had to go through this a few years back. It was a mission but it’s something awesome to accomplish rebuilt a lightning no shop involved.

      Exactly! It was bitter sweet. The last thing I wanted to do, but felt pretty cool afterwards. Feeing of accomplishment

    Interlocking v bands are best. though you can get your current flanges to deal with copper rtv...

      nope, tried that, tried special gaskets that "squish" to seal, tried everything. Flanges are bowed/warped, just blows it all out, and leaks.

    I have a 2000 I did mine at 272 k I got the JLP Seasoned Motor I did 3 pumps in the tank with Jlp extreme fuel system & jlp special plenum 2.6 KB I drive it every day dyno 746 up front 616 rear love it run 5- 50 motorcraft synthetic

    Highly recommend an engine leveler. Makes pulling/installing soooo much easier.

      Yeah true, we had one, just didn't really need it. We got the chain pretty much on point I guess lol

    Shawn, looks like your cats were starting to fail or have, the one I can see in your video looks all plugged up. That could have been why you were making so much boost and could be the potential cause of your issue. The exhaust leaks at the collectors would have caused that to happen as you have cool air mixing with hot exhaust gases and it can melt the cat.

    I had v-bands installed on my exhaust too get rid of all the leaks.

    I do like the svts but always problems and problems....I have before.. now I have a Super sport 03 and 04. LS 6.0. Can't bets on reaviliavity. Good job brother nice video

    Hi 🫡my friend I salute you fron SAN DIEGO please don't forget the ARP for your heads.I know they are expensive but worth it ,.I delete my cats and on my Headers's I used long bolts whit presure washers and used antisee paste on them. I also deleted the radiatorfan install electric fans..Good luck whit your Red Devil 🙏my friend.

      If you have a built motor, with the proper supporting mods, then yup. Kenne Bells make good power on these, with the right setup.

      @@2l3 uggg, I want to so bad! But my bank account doesn't lol...we will see, all depends on how this motors looking, hoping to save it, and keep costs minimal. Already 22k into this motor, and it has less than 10k miles 😅

    What happened to this motor? It was a built block wasn't it?

      not sure what exactly happened yet, but yup, built JDM longblock, coolant went into everything. Looks as if cats were extremely clogged, preventing alot of flow, and creating excess boost/pressure. Havn't cracked open the motor yet to look into things further though. Once we get it open, we will see what happened.

    How much power can lighting hold on a stock blower and stock engine

      450whp max on stock rods, sweet spot for most are around 400whp with bolt ons (lower pulley, intake, tune)
